Sears had 3 2-win seasons, and twonof those years included a D2 team. 6 wins with Sperbeck’s players the first year. They were hurt by injuries thus year but they were pretty bad.
Troy Taylor is a really smart man with a degree from Cal. I loved listening to him on KGO covering Cal games and was sad when he left because he had some really good insight.
It sounds like Utah needs a Ron Gould protege. Trump is a DC outsider, same thing would have happened to Ross Perot in the Swamp. ... Even the head of the liberal IMF is predicting a 3.7% GDP rate for the US next year, almost double prior administration.
Why does Utah hire guys like Taylor, and why did he accept?
Excellent pick up for the Hornets. I think Taylor has a chance to really turn that program around. Also gonna be some inter family rivalry now with Kooper being at Davis.
I don’t think so. It’s a strange situation as his brother plays for Folsom as well I think. Where does he go? Brother v. Brother not unusual. What I think is unusual is Taylor taking on almost the entire Folsom HS coaching staff as his assistants.. these are the guys who go out and recruit in the field. They need the creds to do this. Doubtful they have it at the FCS level. Bee lauds this as a commitment to “recruit locally” as Bee has always wanted this. I see this as somewhat lazy or too convenient to make a lot of sense. Heart before head- not always they right way to go. Wish them well. . . .
I think hiring a hometown product like Troy Taylor was a good move by Sac and, if he is able to rack up some wins, he could reinvigorate Sac's all but dead fan base. They could also have an inside track with local high school recruits but they need to be able to cast a much wider net for talent than just locally. On the other hand, the Ags are loaded with coaches that have had FCS and FBS experience both in coaching and recruiting at those levels and, as a UC, we have a lot to offer that Sac can not match.
The Ags have been successfully mining the entire San Joaquin Valley for quite a while and have a great presence in SoCal. We have also landed recruits from Arizona, Oregon and Washington. Sac has a lot of catching up to do and I'm not sure how well a bunch of high school coaches are going to do recruiting outside of the local area.
Sac has a gym that is smaller than most high school gyms. They have a large capacity football stadium which is a basic high school field and hand-me-down bleachers purchased from the Tournament of Roses folks. There's a difference in having 15K seats and having 15K butts paying to sit in them.
