The WCC has been a three bid conference at times in the recent past. So nice to see us beat a P5 team on the road.

Tj shorts was just amazing. We have not had a point like this in decades. Changes the whole dimension on how we are defended.

Absolutely. TJ Shorts has been a major success so far. He's quick, can drive, play defense, distribute, etc. This is a very pleasant surprise this yr. With him and Schneider in the backcourt, it's going to take attention away from Chima inside.

Goode has improved pretty significantly imo (though not a big fan of his hair style haha) and AJ John can shoot which can help spread the floor - and open things up inside. Then you add in Onyebalu & Henning's veteran presence, Mooney's shooting, and hopefully we'll get some contributions from a couple other guys. My main concern is lack of size which seemed to show against Washington. Fundamentally, we're a solid team.

all big conferences are split into 2 equal number divisionsDrMike
The Mt West has 12 for football but only 11 for the other sports since Hawaii plays in the Big West. Wouldn't mind the Aggies taking that 12th spot until football is ready.

Here is a link to an excellent post-game interview with WSU Head Coach Ernie Kent. He is a classy, articulate coach and he had high praise for Chima. He said you would expect to see a player like Chima at Oregon, Arizona, UCLA or USC. He said Moneke is a deceptive athlete that plays very quick and "we had a lot of trouble with him."

Cal just lost to St. Mary’s who lost wash st. So we’ve are doing ok. Maybe with Chima les can break into the Australian recruiting market. The aussies play a very good physical game of basketball.

Nobody recruits Australians like St Mary's does. Maybe they should change their nickname from the Gaels to the Koala Bears or the Tasmanian Devils...

Unfortunately we wouldn't be able to do that. Since the Mountain West sponsors football we would have to move all sports. Only if a conference doesn't sponsor a sport (Big West and football) can a school do what Hawaii is doing. BYU is able to be an independent because the WCC doesn't sponsor football.

Without knowing what the TV revenue situation is like, MWC offers relatively little non-monetary benefits to fans outside of FBS status anyway. It's still a one-bid conference in basketball these days and I think offers fewer sports than the BWC (no Men's Soccer). The TV contract is mediocre, with late games on an obscure network that can't be streamed. And then for the sports you do have you're locked in to playing some pretty unexciting schools -- home games against Utah State and New Mexico don't particularly make people clamor for tickets.

The Big West needs to get better, but this is the place for us.

I have been busy and have not been able to catch a game yet.

How are we doing with height? Are any of the guys above 6’7” contributing significantly?

From time to time you can buy St. Mary's basketball clothing in Australia colors - green and yellow.

If Hawai'i ever leaves, even with CSUB and UCSB the BWC could split into a UC division and a CSU division.

Still think it weird that slac is left out. Were they asked? Did they ask?
