That playoff game against Eastern is my biggest what if from the resurgence of Aggie Football IMO. A completed tackle on the QB and we were looking at hosting Maine in the semis and then NDSU (whom we matched up very well with the next season) in Frisco

let’s not talk about that game today

That game...There was a moment towards the end of the game when a couple of our players were celebrating, and I thought, 'No, not till the clock runs out.' Barriere was just so dangerous. I just Googled him, and while he has gotten on some CFL and USFL rosters, he hasn't stuck. He was such an amazing player, an FCS version of Lamar Jackson, yet not good enough to make it at the next level.

I'll talk about from the standpoint that the Eastern program has been going downhill ever since their Natty appearance that season...and they just lost to Cal Poly today in SLO. Poly lit them up.

Only 4 punts today --- felt like Sac went for it on 4th so many times because of their field position.

Anyone have a link to Marrion’s post game comments?

If I recall, didn't he go for it on 4th down early, and give us great field position on our first series? Struck me as a highly risky, an unneeded loss of field position.

    Marion 101...dice roller.

yup, I’m only slightly past that on replay. And it was a long pass attempt, rather than sticking to their guns on be ground

I've never watched a team more confident in their running game. Borderline hubris (I understand their QB doesn't throw well and that's part of it, but they also benched the guy who can throw well to go all-in on the run game).
100% commitment to running it going into their final drive with 5:28 left. No urgency, just complete confidence.......until it got down to around a minute and they got off schedule. Then came the panic.

Sure glad the Aggies pulled it out, especially after seeing the way Stanford humiliated Cal.

Sac passed for only 17 yards?!?! 0 in the 2nd half...

agree. I think we have a good chance for any 2nd round team except for those 3.

But weren't most up the gut? No concept of running every other one out of bounds. I thought we might have left them too much time.

Was big Nava back out there today??

Running up the gut = the hubris I was talking about.

I watched more Sac football than I care to admit this season (out of morbid curiosity more than anything). They had season-long success right up the middle- seemingly a shoestring away from busting one open every play. They chunked 8-10-12 yarders every play vs low tier BSC teams all year.
They were understandably very confident in their elite running backs- and even more so today with Curtis back.

Don't get me wrong, I think the coaching from Marion and OC was bad all game / season. And the fact they had to rely solely on what I mentioned above shows that.

probably because Eastern is another hour away and outside? We'll have to meet up next year at Kibbie.

They also had a lot of luck especially in Sac's games vs Northern Colorado and Idaho, both of which came down to the final drive like today but they had some flukey calls.

On the other hand, they should have defeated Nevada but Marion made a really dumb choice late in the game.

You wrote: "Acia was a very unsung hero in Vargas’ absence (an NFL talent). ..."

Do you see Vargas as a LL type runner? Have you heard knowledgeable Aggies share your opinion?

He's still young, not sure about breakaway speed. Does he have FBS power?
