The Aggies travel to the Biggest Little City in the World to take on what is their toughest game to date, but just a precursor of a very difficult schedule over the next month. The future MWC opponent also once was a past FWC opponent. (I fondly remember the time we beat the Wolfpack 122-71 back in 1968.) Recently the series has been dominated by Nevada who has beaten the Aggies 15 straight times now, most recently in 2023, 68-80.

Aggie fans will not so fondly remember the Wolfpack’s Center, 6’10” Joel Armotrading, who transferred from UC Riverside. He’s not much of an offensive presence but he can rebound. Ironically, he does not lead UNR in rebounds. That honor presently belongs to Elijah Price, yet another transfer who is averaging over 10 rpg. He also has a decent 3-point shot. At 6’9” he and Armotrading provide an imposing front court. The scoring comes from two of their three starting guards, Tayshawn Comer (17.7 ppg) and Corey Camper (15.5 ppg), as well as Price. The point guard, Tyle Rolison, is not a big scorer, but he can dish out assists. A fourth guard, Chuck Bailey III, provide instant offense with his 46.7% trey shooting ability. As a team, these guys also can sweep the glass, averaging 48.7 rpg, 14th in the nation.

Nevada opened the season with three straight wins at home over decent Div. I opponents, but they ran into a tough Santa Clara team down in Silicon Valley and lost 98-83. The Wolfpack defense could be a little suspect as they have allowed an average of 72.8 ppg, while scoring 79.8 ppg. As with so many teams with mostly new players, defense is often spotty as we saw with Sac State. With UCD averaging 79.0 ppg on offense and holding other teams to 69.3 ppg, this game might come down to how well the Aggie’s offense scores on the road, something they did not do well in Portland.

I have class during the game but am SO curious how it goes! Big game against a future conference member.

Tough matchup for us - oddsmakers have them as 12 point favorites. I think our defense might keep us in the game, and how close depends on the 3 point shooting. If we can bump our 27% shooting to something closer to 37%, we can make it a game. We’ll have to do a really good job on the boards, also

I'll be at dinner with friends tonight but I'll stop myself from looking at Live Stats so I can watch the replay with my fingers crossed later tonight. I think DrMike is spot on about what we need to do to keep the game within reach. I'm hoping that we'll break out of our 3 point shooting slump. Our defense can only do so much if we are launching 25 or 30 threes but only making a quarter of them and we need to score from beyond the arc especially against teams that superior size and strength in the paint.

I'm looking forward to this one. It'll be tough, but if we can stay out of foul trouble, rebound and get out and run, maybe we make it a game (in addition to the aforementioned 3 pt shooting). And any chance we wear the Tahoe Blues? I'm guessing those are only for home games, but it would be funny.

The Tahoe Blues would be great since their athletics department has taken such offense to it!

12.5 road dogs for the Aggies for the betting fiends across state lines, though not quite the +27.5 for Sac State tonight at Pauley Pavilion

Any tips on how to get mwn if I don’t have the cable channel?

I wish I did. I expected it to be available through ESPN, but unless someone can answer your question, I'm missing this game too.

Nevada knows how well Sevilla can shoot. Their #2, Comer, is on him like white on snow.

We have left a lot on the table and are tied at half. I’ll take it. We look like we belong with them.

Nis Cooper is carrying the team with 17 points while no one else has mor ethan 7 and Sevilla is 0/3. Hope we can get others more involved in the offense in the second half, but the Aggie D is fantastic.

I guess that next year, we'll have to rely on the Mountain West Network to watch most Aggie games.

In years past we had a star and then no one else who could do anything on their own. It’s so refreshing to see multiple players be able to take their man 1:1.

Unselfish ball and a total team effort!

Seems like Sevilla does not have his head in this game. He'e made some careless passes that lead to turnovers and he isn't working on getting open for his shot.

This is definitely a winnable game for us… just need to stop it with the turnovers

Watching games on espn+ is higher quality that airplaying to my TV. Can’t believe I’m saying this but going to miss our broadcasts next year.

The color guy is Nick Fazekas, who I used to watch play when Nevada and Hawaii were both in the WAC. He set the Nevada scoring record and was 3 time league player of the year.
