Wow, it looks like Wood sold out the student body and made a bad deal in order to save face on his messed up FBS or Bust promises. What a stinker of a deal!

I think sac state is betting on joining another conference when realignment comes around. We just need to get into FBS before then. We need the stadium upgrades fasho. A 30k stadium would be perfect.

very skeptical of UNLV's average attendance, no way is that people in the stands

Lmao they have to pay for visiting team travel. What a joke.

we don’t NEED stadium upgrades to move up, we are on par with plenty of smaller tier FBS programs (even that new MWC program). I do want that however, and we do need it to capture the enormous revenue we are missing.

I think you’re spot on that we need to be FBS before the next realignment and super conference breakaway and before costs get more out of line for moving up. I’d suggest we need to do so ASAP. This year might be too little too late, but I think waiting for the sake of having a 30,000 seat stadium, an FCS Championship, etc etc is not necessary.

I think we need the ICA/AD to be serious about revenue development starting now and a clear plan, draw actual architectural drawings, bid out the stadium project, and get going.

We have to do more than talk. Real legitimate plans and progress will compound the donations and excite checkbooks.

We are pretty much in the MWC.

Perhaps the school needs to better articulate that. In 2-3 years we will be FBS. If we can get an FCS title that would be nice.

I just read that Sac State has joined the Mid-American Conference for football only so they can move up to the FBS. The MAC has no schools further west than Northern Illinois U. and goes as far east as UMass. So here's another Pacific coast team that will be doing a lot of traveling.

we pretty much ARE not in the MWC for football anymore than Sac is in the Big12 for non-football,

There’s no date, there’s no agreement, no nothing. If there is, let’s see it and start acting appropriately. I don’t believe there is however, because if there was a finalized agreement our AD wouldn’t be saying “in the future there’ll be more chances.”

He’d say, “in 2027 when we are we will…”. This would instantly help raise revenue, prevent loss of corporate money that will now go to Sac that we would be able to capture before them (it’s a very limited dollar in this region).

If I’m our ICA bosses I’m working overtime to lockdown revenue for us from Sac and moving our timeline up. Yes, the MAC is dumb and Sac gave up too much, but that doesn’t matter as the visibility they have in this region outdoes us no matter how righteous we are as long ad we are FCS. I actually think it compromises us to remain FCS from a non-alumni/university related person revenue standpoint.

I'd like this as well. Put it out there, Rocko. What is our goal with football and the MWC? This would help fundraising and recruiting tremendously. He doesn't have to be an idiot about it like Wood, but he could set a goal. Big difference. "Football's goal is to move up by 2030...." Unless I'm missing something we don't have that. Perhaps he is unsure.

They are going into the big west (the conference we are leaving) for all other sports.

That has to be one of the worst business deals I've ever see. It's completely unsustainable.

I know. Which isn’t the Big12. Just like we aren’t joining the MWC for football.

I 100% agree. I think Rocko needs to come out and say what are goal year is to move up, especially since half of the world is confused about our status in the MW next year as it is. Coming out and saying ""Football's goal is to move up by 2030...." seems like a realistic response that would absolutely expand our donations. Right now we seem like were in this weird kinda limbo. Don't go out and talk a ton of crap, just throw it out there for donors and recruits that we have a goal hopefully by (blank) year, it would boost investment substantially, especially if we are trying to raise money for renovations.

the 5 year thing is interesting. Curious to see if they can do well enough financially to find another FBS conference, and if not, what happens.

This thing folds within 5 years, right??......unless something miraculous happens like they win the conference and move to another...

He does appear to be very careful about alienating the Big Sky. The whole facilities upgrade thing does everything but say we are moving up in 5 years (maybe).

I do give him credit for being calculated with everything he does. I much prefer Rocko's style to Wood's.

Yup. SACST is not getting any shared revenue from the MAC and must pay for all visiting teams travel? OMG.....this thing will be lucky to last 2 years....

  • Jdur

I agree, but I do think its a bit limiting for donors, fans and recruits to feel really solid in what our plans are in the next few years. Its like we are doing literally EVERYTHING except announcing our move for football. Announce facility renovations, join and FBS conference for ever other sport and then... it would be helpful to know.
  • Sailorgabe
    193
Why are you in such a rush to move to the FBS? Explain what is the difference between moving in 2026 vs 2030?
  • SochorField
    592
For some reason, he has decided against announcing. I trust his judgement (the premature stadium renovation tweet makes sense now, although could have been executed better). I think its mostly because we aren't in a hurry and the program is doing ok financially year-to-year. Fundraising is a different story.

I believe Wood got a sh*t-or-get-off-the-pot warning regarding football. They clearly weren't in good shape.

Oh im not saying move this year, that makes no sense for us. I am echoing what others are saying about the AD putting out a statement giving a goal/timeline for that move. 2028-2030 sounds about right. It just seems like it would give donors clarity of what they are building towards, especially with all other sports in the MW.
  • Jdur
    421
Makes sense. I am just curious what the funding looks like for the renovation projects now. If its lacking, I would imagine some clarity on the future would be helpful for that. I think it was a surprise when we joined the MW for all other sports, but also leaves us in a weird limbo of head scratching of where we will be in the future. Its like all signs point towards one thing but that one thing is shrouded in mystery.
  • Sailorgabe
    193
Why? What is it that you hope he will say?
  • SochorField

I may be reading too much into things, but the Plough 5-year extension ends about the time we should be making a decision, or perhaps a move. Seems like a good time for him to get paid or move on.
  • Jdur
    421
Give a timeline of a prospective move, drum up excitement and donations for the program and facility. Allow the university to plan for that move once they have moved all other sports into the conference later this year. Build a recruiting pitch that goes with our high academic status. Solidify the future plan for Plough, student athletes and alumni.
  • Jdur
    421
I thought of that too. It made me think about the extension of Polesek at NDSU before the announcement of their move to the Mountain West. Plough's extension came out of nowhere like every big announcement we seem to have. Makes me think he must have been given some timeline/plan of what we are doing in the future.
