The Aggies open their 2021-22 season on the road in Logan, Utah, when they take on the Aggies of Utah State. This is a tough opener for the Ags. Utah State was 20-9 last year.
The last time these two teams met was back on November 26, 2014, in the Pavilion. Utah State had a 3 point lead with 3.8 seconds to go in the game when Tyler Les drained an NBA range 3 at the buzzer to tie it up. The Ags went on to win the game 77-70 in OT.
I remember that game well and Tyler's high arching 3 hit nothing but net. Josh Fox had 23, Josh Ritchart 14, JT Adenrele 12 and Corey Hawkins had 10. Great win for the Ags.
Oh boy I remember that game well!!! What a wild one that was.
Looking forward to seeing how Milling fits in and how some of the younger players have progressed. A victory will be tough but that’s why they play the game.
I’d like to think we can get closer than that, but one thing I’ve learned from watching Jim Les teams is that it takes a while for the defense to gell. I can’t get the game at Loyola Chicago a few years ago out of my head when they just back doored us all night long. Hoping we are farther along than that, but we’ll see. Go Ags!
Impressive finish to half after falling behind 10 out of the gate. That was without much of a contribution from the field from Pepper and Manjon. Nice to see contributions from the new guys.
I thought Utah State was going to run us out of the arena the way they started off and the early foul trouble for Manjon too. Our aggressive defense got us back into the game though.
Ba and Shaw are on the bench but haven't played. I wonder if they may be nursing injuries.
I guess the commentators can't call both teams "Aggies" but it's still weird to hear him saying stuff like "Aggies need to get more noise from their crowd," etc.
I thought Les was masterful in the way he used his players with all the foul trouble we had early and then losing Adebayo and Anigwe. Loved our defense!
Loved Manjon down the stretch. He was quiet offensively for most of the game but was clutch at the end. If Murphy and McGill can continue to develop (and especially McGill with the 3 ball) that could really fill some holes on the team. Looking forward to seeing the team in person on Friday against EWU, an appetizer to the football game on Saturday.
