California not liked most places, so nothing new. Montana had more hostile environment
This game is not the upset the Stanford game was because that was by a Davis team still transitioning from D2, over a power conference team, that can recruit almost anyone they want.
Tonight’s was over a team that recruits a lot of the 3star type of recruits we get. They have more scholarships, and hence more depth than we do. Likely better talent than anyone else we will play this year, so still a great achievement beating them.
Tulsa came into this game with the better resume, going 6-3 against some decent comp. and playing for league title game, almost beating an SEC team on the road. Once Trent Edwards went down, Stanford was in trouble. I would say Tulsa's D definitely better.
IMO, the Big Sky is the best FCS football conference in the country. — movielover
I'm not sure if the Big Sky is the best, because I don't pay enough attention to FCS football, but the Big Sky, Missouri Valley and Colonial are consistently stacked year after year.
Stanford was poorly coached. We also beat their coach when he was at UOP.
Stanford’s starting QB hurt his hand in first half and had to leave game. Backup was not ready to play, even though I think he went on to do well, I think he was drafted. They had an unstoppable runner who ran through #8 UCLA like a knife through butter, but they didn’t use him.
Well, whatever. A great win for the Aggies. I too had doubts about the three man D line we were using and Tulsa was running right thru it. But it tightened in the end. This was a very hard ESPN game to actually hear because of the totally home town announcing, but the win makes it so much better. And the one guy who played at Houston was very fair at the end of the day. Gave a lot of credit to the Ags as he should have. Tough win.
Tulsa World: UC Davis 19, Tulsa 17: Aggies shock Hurricane in season opener
"An uninspiring and uneven performance in the season opener turned into a full-blown disaster Thursday night for the University of Tulsa, which lost to an FCS-level team for the first time in 35 years.
"A three-touchdown favorite, the Hurricane was affected by costly suspensions, avoidable penalties and a general lack of efficiency, resulting in a dismal 19-17 defeat against UC Davis at H.A. Chapman Stadium....
".... I’m not taking anything away from UC Davis, but I felt like most of the time it was us stopping us and not the other way around...."
man, I’m glad they play football better than they sing. Compressed a fight song ranging about 1.5 octaves to about a third. But at least they are singing the fight song and no one can take that away despite what they did to the Aggie Band- uh.
So when you say Californians are not well-liked in Tulsa do you mean the residents were rude to you at the game or the townspeople were just rude in general ? And is this typical of Oklahomans in general ?
I am asking because I have a trip planned to OKC in a few weeks.
How very elevated the board content is. I don't believe anyone mentioned what Tulsa spelled backwards is.
69aggie and movielover. You both left Gomez off the list of game mvps. 47 yarder and 3 more - rock solid straight and high. I couldn’t help but contrast that with the pathetic kicking game at Stanford in 2005 that nearly lost the game.
That’s funny. At least they didn’t try to sing the Alma Mater. Outside the band, and apparently the football team, I wonder how many other students know the words to Aggie Fight?
