Mid December and we have 12 commitments... I love it. Even more work to do though. Sure looks like the switch from Gould to Hawkins hasn't hurt us in this department at all though.
I think Coach Hawk's (and the assistants, of course) energy and enthusiasm is resonating with the recruits. Signing day is where the rubber meets the road, but I am very hopeful that we seem to be pivoting in a very positive way.
This is true. Coach Gould and staff put a lot of work into building up this recruiting class. To the best of my knowledge though we haven't lost a single one of our commitments with the change in coach and I think that says a lot about Hawkins. Hopefully I didn't just jinx anything, but there is still a lot of time before the signing day for the high school kids.
I haven't found anything on the new commitment yet, but I did notice that the coaches have a new hashtag on twitter. All of the new coaches have put it up on their twitter profiles. It's #AGScension
So, cool story about one of our commits. QB Niko Harris has been out most of the season with an injury, but he was good to go for Sierra Canyon's State Championship game. So his first game back from major injury is the state championship and he ends up pulling out the win! Shows the coaches there have a whole lot of faith in this kid.
If there was ever a year to land a few JC recruits, this would be it... our new DC should know SoCal inside out, including his own team... so the only remaining hurdle may be if they meet our academic standards.
LB Bryan Rayas, the player we were talking about on page 1 of this thread and weren't sure if he was offered or not, has updated his twitter and IG accounts to include "UC Davis future". I'm willing, at this point, willing to call that an offer AND commitment (I can always change it if necessary). That gives us 2 LB commits and both of them put up huge numbers last season.
As long as the LBs bring speed and athleticism, they will have a huge impact to the program. Seems like we're building the team with more Athletes. College ball is so much more challenging than HS ball that we need the kids with the speed and athleticism to bring us to the next level. Looking forward to next year. Should be a fun time!
