• We're Finally Getting A Weekly Coaches Show!
It appears that that men's and women's basketball and even some other sports will have a coaches show:

  • Aggie Stadium
A Buckhorn tri tip sandwich and a Sudwerk beer is awesome! We're in for a treat if the Buckhorn keeps their traditional high standard of food service at the football games. Blue is ticking all the right boxes!

Thanks for the recaps CA Forever and DrMike. I couldn't agree more about the quality of the Aggie athletes we have. Our athletics program has always been a program where our athletes have been required to get it done in the classroom just like the rest of the students and I think that makes our program special and somewhat of a rarity in major college athletics. There's truth and integrity to the title "student/athlete" at UCD and that makes me proud to be an Aggie fan.

I can't find any archive of the show. Can anyone summarize the highlights?

I won't be able to watch the first coaches show tonight at 7 pm. Anyone know if we may be able to watch it at another time?
  • Dr. May Introduction
He is definitely still here. His is active on his twitter account with his title as UCD Provost & Executive Vice Chancellor.

  • Week 2: University of San Diego @ UC Davis
Wow...I think we can rest assured that Harbaugh will never be an Aggie fan!
  • Dr. May Introduction
I haven"t heard anything about him leaving UCD so I just assumed he is still here. The basketball team gave him a championship ring a few months ago too.
  • Dr. May Introduction
I've never felt better about the administrative support we now have for Aggie Athletics with Kevin Blue at helm along with Ralph Hexter and Dr. May in Mrak Hall. I feel like we're in the midst of a paradigm shift for D1 athletics at UCD. Exciting times to be an Aggie fan!
  • Mikey Henn is transferring
Henn had announced that he would play at Cal Baptist but then he reportedly reopened his recruitment. He still lists himself as a Cal Baptist player on his twitter account so he may end up playing there after all.

I'll be a hypocrite and say I like it that we are playing Stanford and Cal in the next two years...I just don't like getting trounced by anyone!
  • Big Sky 9/2
Maybe but they look pretty damn good to me.
  • Week 1: UC Davis @ San Diego State
    Some post-game comments from Hawk:

“It seems sometimes overly philosophical to people, but one of our goals is to start fast and finish strong,” said Hawkins, whose team ultimately dropped the nonconference game 38-17. “That’s life, you want to finish strong. Forget about the score. You always play hard when you’re hit and you never give up when you’re behind. That’s what we want.

“That’s when I pulled them together and said, ‘Let’s forget about what the score is. Let’s finish. We got 15 minutes of football. Let’s play.’ They did a nice job.”

“Attitude was great. Sparkle in the eye was great. Their togetherness was great. The work ethic was great. All that was awesome, and we can build on that.

“We have a chance to be a good football team, but we have to hang together.”

  • Big Sky 9/2
Six Big Sky teams played FBS opponents yesterday and lost all six games by a combined point total of 299 - 117. The average final score of these games was 49.8 - 19.5 so, essentially, the FBS teams won by an average score of 50 - 20...not even close to being competitive.

I get that it's a great experience for the players to play in such a big environment and that we take home a big paycheck. But, is it really worth getting trounced on national tv and risking injuries when players are so physically over matched?

The size and speed difference between teams like SDSU and us is ridiculous and I found myself just hoping we'd escape without getting too beat up. I don't think these games are very exciting for the FBS fans either. SDSU fans were sitting quietly looking bored to death at times and some were actually yawning in the third quarter.

But, then again, Portland State has held its own against 2 consecutive FBS teams and has taken home a bundle of money in doing so. So the jury is still out for me regarding the value of playing these kind of games to open the season.

Culbertson didn't come back in the game and had his pads off on the sideline. I'm sure they are evaluating him for a concussion.
  • Week 1: UC Davis @ San Diego State
Well, I think we beat the spread for sure! :-} We we're clearly outmanned against SDSU's first unit but we looked pretty good against their reserves. Great game for Doss and a very decent performance by Maier. We had some big hits but also had some poor tackles. I think we showed our youthfulness but you can see the potential is there. We're going to see a lot of improvement as these kids get more D1 game speed experience.

We're missing Kelly and Luuga big time. I don't see the the explosive quickness that we had with them in our run game.
