Men defeated Slack today, 3-0, to clinch the top seed and home pitch advantage through the Big West tournament. On Wednesday, 11/1, UCR will play at UCSB in one semifinal and Slack will play at CSUN in the other. The Ags will host the winner of the CSUS/CSUN match in a semifinal on 11/4, and Fullerton will host the UCR/UCSB winner in the other semi. The winners will play on 11/11 for the conference tourney championship.
CSUN defeated Slack, 3-2 in double OT to win the CSU quarterfinal. Ags will host the Matadors in a semi this Saturday. UCR defeated UCSB in a UC quarterfinal and will play Fullerton State in the other semi.
Don't know what the selection rules are, but I suspect Dr. Mike is right. 24 automatic qualifiers and 24 at large bids. I think the top seeded 16 get first round byes, while the remaining 32 play a first round game.
Are they really giving free tickets to the game vs SUU if you show a ticket from the BW championship game? They must not be expecting a good crowd at Aggie (football) stadium. Anyway, good luck to Mens Soccer vs CSUF!
I've never been a fan of settling games on what boils down to a skill competition. NHL does the same thing in the regular season. At least in the playoffs they just let the teams go until someone scores. The championship match of a conference tournament should not be determined by something as stupid as PK.
