Just my 2 cents: When Jeff Tedford was at Cal he made it a major point to upgrade the football facilities. I don't remember the details, but he pushed it to make the Bears more competitive in his recruitment efforts, to get more fans, etc. He got what he wanted, but now Tedford is long gone and the Cal football program is still mediocre.

As I understand it (and I don't gamble on sports at all), the point spread changes in response to the way bettors choose sides. Thus, if a lot of folks are taking UC Davis to beat the spread, the the spread shrinks. It doesn't mean that the bookies now think that Davis is suddenly better than they first thought.

Hawai`i probably has as good an arena as any MWC team, but the campus is not on par with the rest of the island as far as beauty is concerned. The "stadium" right now is on campus and holds less than 17,000 waiting until who knows when the state will build a new one. The old one used to host the NFL Pro Bowl, but it was not kept up and was condemned in 2024 and the state hasn't even gotten around to awarding a contract to tear it down, so I don't expect a new stadium for at least ten years.

An all Cal league is intriguing, but there's a strong "snob" effect from the likes of Cal, UCLA and Stanford that would not allow for such a league with San Joe State or Sac State. I can see something like the Pac-12 reforming with Cal, Stanford, Oregon State and Washington State along with the 6 schools that are going to be added in 2026, but schools like UCD and Cal Poly would really have to upgrade their athletic programs for them to be included in any football. Cal Poly is already an affiliate member in wrestling.

Hard to see any other California schools that are at the right level. Cal Baptist? Sac State? Or go for one of the Utah teams. Maybe they just stay a 9-team conference?
