• Aggies vs Bears
Nobody said Trimble was out, it was just that he was not mentioned in the linebacker preview,
I think the Bland info was just someone trolling.

Offensive line preview makes good reading.

It understates the depth we have on OL by not mentioning a senior who has started 8 games for us games for us and appeared in 30, RILEY
GALLANT. So with Will Martin back and the four returning starters from the end of last year we have six returning players with substantial starting experience plus quality young guys
  • Aggies vs Bears
A few years back we had a DL, Taylor Prenovost transfer from UCLA, never played although on roster several years. Now his brother a 6’0 240 lb lineman is on Cal
  • Aggies vs Bears
This is a challenge similar to an FCS playoff game. UCD is a heavy underdog similar to playing Eastern Washington last fall. We’re healthier now than we were in that game and face less adverse conditions,
Interesting to note that the team ranked just above Cal in the final Sagarin ratings was South Dakota State. Cal wasn’t so great that they’re unbeatable. I don’t expect Davis to win, but this is a winnable game.

    Linebacker preview

Odd that there is no mention of Cam Trimble who played in 12 games last year
  • Aggies vs Bears
Hopefully the people who are in a position to influence the outcome expect to win every game in the sense of having a plan and a belief that if they execute the plan and get some breaks that they’ll win.
I think the computer rankings from last year set a reasonable expectation of how the teams will perform since both are largely intact. Sagarin rating for Cal vs UCD predicts about a two touchdown difference between the teams, given Cal is at home. Cal would be touchdown underdog to NDSU on Cal’s field.

Bryce Rogers De Andre Morgan and Luka Nixon. That’s an entire defensive line coming off medical redshirt years. Good players, if healthy. Baring injury we have a deep defensive line.
  • Looking Forward to 2019
Sloppy article. Is Airey now a defensive back? I doubt it. No mention of any defensive lineman. That will be the key area if we are better.

If you are taking about Spencer that’s right.
Movie, I hope Facey gets a chance. Great high school career.

Running back preview article on team site.
Speckman is high on Troy Spencer who moved from wide receiver,

Regarding “red shirts”, players have five years to complete four. If they play in less than four games due to injury it doesn’t count as one of the four. So guys like Nixon who played as freshmen but we’re injured in later year don’t lose eligibility. For JC players, same deal. Will Martin played one year after JC and then injured last year, and he’s back. However players have to complete the four years within five or petition for an sixth year due to some issue. If they are in the service that gives extension for the years involved. I think Drakeley is in his last year, so he did something else besides the Army in some of the eight years since he was here in 2010.

    Good summary.
In addition there are DL Luka Nixon and Bryce Rogers and DB Jaylin White who all redshirted last year after appearing in fewer than four games. Those were all potential impact players this year,

Kind of weird that Phil Steele’s freshmen all American team had Jake Parks first team and yet he’s now not projected as even a third team all big sky, I think it’s pretty much a given that someone who started right out of high school will be much improved year 2.
  • Paul Wulff an Aggie coach?
The comparison movielover was making was between Wulff who has many years of D1 college head coaching experience and his replacement Kris Richardson, who has spent the last 24 at Folsom. I’m not denigrating high school coaches, far from it as so many high school coaches later coach college. But it is a stark contrast in background between those two.
  • Paul Wulff an Aggie coach?
Of course they have a chip on their shoulder, but what else have they got?
  • Paul Wulff an Aggie coach?
The interpersonal dynamics might be challenging with an assistant with head coach and offensive coordinator working with or under younger less experience offensive coordinator and offensive line coaches. Hopefully it all meshes
  • Paul Wulff an Aggie coach?
He’s not at Sac State any longer. He was the offensive line coach/ offensive coordinator, not retained at the transition last February. The new offensive line coach there is the father of our two Richardson offensive linemen.
    Wulff was the offensive coordinator for Hawkins on USA 2015 football team according to a post here three years ago by aggie6thman;

“One name that might fit the mold and has deep connections with both Hawkins and the city of Davis, is Paul Wulff, the current Sac State Assistant Head Coach, Run Game Coordinator, and Offensive Line coach. Wulff was born in Woodland and attended Davis High School before heading to Washington State to complete his undergraduate education. Wulff was head coach at Big Sky football power Eastern Washington before taking the reins at Washington State where he was released after three years. Since then he has bounced around but has landed back in the region and just completed his first year with the Hornets. Not so coincidentally, Wulff served as the offensive coordinator for USA football in 2015 with Dan Hawkins.”
My guess is he’s just volunteering to stay involved.
  • Aggies in Pre-season Ratings
If the goal is a top seed in the playoffs so we avoid playing an away game in adverse conditions, then being highly regarded from the beginning is better than being a Cinderella.
Montana, Montana State and Weber all look to be challenges. We’ll need some defensive improvement to sweep those games and earn that high ranking.
  • Looking Forward to 2019
We get great press from some of the Montana outlets. We should recruit up there. Pleased to see we got an Idaho commit this year.
