I suspect our game notes are ready but they don’t want to take screen time away from a soccer freshman of the week award. Only 71 hours until game time

All the other UCs should seek an order by the Regents that Cal stop using that name. They need to be UC Berkeley or UCB. In the name of equity. Let them walk a mile in our shoes.

Who knew so many Okies were from Muskogee?
  • Opening Day 2021 - @ Tulsa
Tulsa is within the sovereign Muscogee Nation reservation, the Supreme Court ruled last year. That must be interesting..They’ve had to cross deputize a lot of police and highway patrol. Tulsa lists one player as having 15/32 Muscogee blood. I had a cousin who was a member of one of the tribes in Oklahoma.

Tulsa has posted their game notes for the Cal Davis game

Their offensive line is huge, I doubt we’ve played against a bigger line.

I wasn’t serious, except on the idea that maybe Nick Eaton had more impact before they moved him to rush.
It’s likely as you point out that Sean Harlston has outgrown being a defensive back. But if it’s good weight they can probably use a guy who had the mobility of a defensive back elsewhere.
  • Opening Day 2021 - @ Tulsa
Maybe they should try him at Rush so Eaton can go back to his 2019 position.

I like the Eggies name. Unites the Ag students and the egg-heads under one label, a very inclusive nickname.
More seriously, the fact that Cal-Davis is still in circulation after all the efforts to erase it shows an strong hold on the national consciousness. Proves you have to establish a brand early; it’s hard to change decades later.

I’m pretty sure Da’von Frazier was listed as a linebacker earlier in August but now he’s again listed as a defensive back.
I feel sorry for the Da’von because he moved from defensive back to linebacker, earned a start at linebacker in our last 2019 game, starred in the game, and earned a most improved player award, and then gets shifted back to defensive back and doesn’t see much if any action. I thought they might move him back to where he had more success but apparently not. We seem pretty deep at defensive back.

Sad that we lost the ability to look at the spring games on Big Sky site.
I just signed up for ESPN + and don’t know how available replays will be.

In later games Trent was involved a lot of non wildcat plays.
In finale against Eastern Tompkins ran nine times and passed nine times. I don’t know how many involved the wildcat as a formation, but not a lot.
In the fourth quarter he was in for a couple of drives, one of which ended with a touchdown. While Tompkins was in there were a bunch of carries by Larison in both drives
The second drive ended with him throwing four passes, I don’t know what formation these were from but they weren’t the classic wildcat plays where the QB carries the ball.

Maybe some bad play calling here, maybe not.

Above page is a quick look at Tulsa. I got prompted to sign in but closed the window and read it, so hope it’s available.
They graduated a QB but seem more settled at that position than we are by a long shot.
They have all their offensive linemen who started 2020, one 2019 OL starter who sat out 2020, and a transfer OL starter for Oklahoma State.
On the other hand two starting corners transferred.
This is a very experienced football team and won’t be like playing San Jose state in 2018 where the Spartans were clueless.
Note the difference in information available for fans compared to what we get here.
  • Dunning: Move Aggies football to Pac-12
The basketball equivalent of FCS is called mid-major.
“The last time, as of 2021, a mid-major team won the National Championship was 1990 when UNLV won with a 103–73 win over Duke, since UNLV was then a member of the Big West and since 1999 has been a member of the MW; the Big West was not then considered a power conference, nor is the MW today.”
Because of the larger number of games, mid major basketball teams compete more frequently with major conference teams. But one might say they're not in the same league,; I think the winning percentages of those games would reflect that.
  • Dunning: Move Aggies football to Pac-12
That’s an example of what they need more of. But are they going to do a position review? How long has it been since there was a coaches show? Why did no stories come out of sending coach Hawkins to the BigSky kickoff for media. Some other regions media reported his comment on this being the best team ever, Did that even get reported here? Anyone ask “why do you say that?” I think there is a story there.’
  • Dunning: Move Aggies football to Pac-12
The Davis enterprise doesn’t offer much. Dunning isn’t really a sports reporter anymore, he’d rather be the community elder talking about bigger themes. We’re not going to add fans without team publicity, and the Davis Enterprise readership isn’t enough especially since the stories are behind a paywall. I thought the athletic department was going to do more stories on their website, including some by a former Davis Enterprise reporter but those haven’t been seen since COVID.
If a tree falls in a forest and no one is listening did it make a sound?
  • 2021 Roster posted
I think someone will pick him up but what school at our level is not going to have other running backs, and good ones? He had only two players ahead of him here, so he was going to get on the field, given the likelihood of injury. We need three running backs, so I wonder who will be the third guy now.
  • Dunning: Move Aggies football to Pac-12
This is recycling his long standing opinion. Unfortunately a major college football team usually has press coverage not behind a paywall
