I was looking at the participants page because so many players are alleged to have played 62. Only 64 players can dress in the playoffs, so i thought the list would provide a playoff roster. Unfortunately I have no faith it is correct.

The NCAA final book for the game shows the same list.

According to the box score these are the players who started the game, which has little relationship with reality.

Brock’s observation about how many guys got into the game is reflected in the stats which list 62 players as participants. If that is correct only 2 players dressed but didn’t play.

This is the 4th year that David Meyer has played in 10 or more games. He has no more eligibility. 21,22,23,24. He was at Poly in 20 (21 spring) but Poly only played a couple of games.

UCLA from the start didn’t want to be UC Los Angeles whereas Cal was UC period. The use of the initials obscures the association, so UCLA made sure that was how the school was referenced. UCLA is claimed to be the most recognized college name internationally even though many don’t associate it with the University of California.
Cal Davis or University or California Davis or UC Davis all give the impression of a subsidiary association with the Berkeley campus which owns in public perception the labels Cal, or University of California or UC.
UCLA did start as a subsidiary campus, they didn’t get their own Chancellor until 1951

My speculation is we are near the end of the graduate transfer era due to the COVID year aging out., and transfers will be more juniors and below. Davis has benefited from those types of transfers. I think we may see highly regarded high school recruits who didn’t earn playing time moving between teams as much as big programs poaching stars.

UCLA never wanted to be called University of California Los Angeles, because they didn’t want to market as a branch campus. Short names are better. Ideally the name would be Davis.

Larison, Teddye Buchanan, Tehran Thomas and dozens of others played QB in H.S. were recruited to play other positions here from the get go. Most the recent QBs are QB prospects as was Trent Tompkins. Trent had a legitimate shot at playing QB.

My reading says the elimination of the NLI took effect already, in October.. It replaces a one size fits all letter with contractual documents. More work for lawyers, more negotiation of terms. Athletes are still bound to whatever they sign, but the terms of the contract are not as uniform.

If you want to get women to games it needs to be a social event. UCLA had a parent’s weekend and the Sorority chartered a bus to go to the game with parents. So the girls, boy friends and parents all went.

Davis is 58% women students. International students make up 17% of the student body, so the density of preexisting football fans is low.
Davis prides itself on its admitting 37% first generation college students, so many have no family tradition of being a fan of college sports in general
