In the mid 70s Davis didn’t have Spring football practice. I’m not sure when they started Davis spring football, but likely not in Moroski’s time, probably not while in the FWC or NCAC.
Pinnick is on the baseball roster this year, but probably redshirting.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread

They didn’t come to Sac for the education.
They didn’t come for the chance to be in the playoffs
They didn’t come to be on a ranked team.
Most don’t have a shot to play pro and will realize that when they don’t start at sac or if they do don’t standout..
Not many have biographies that show they are self motivated, while a few seem to be un-amenable to discipline.
I imagine come mid-October most will be thinking what am i doing here?

If sac is spending a lot of $ on these players one has to question whether that $ would be better spent when they start playing FBS schedule, something that is easier said than done without a conference affiliation.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread

“At FCS-level Sacramento State, Marion is offering players in the portal an opportunity to compete for a starting job, to be part of the rolling momentum of a program that seeks entry into the FBS and could well be a preseason Top 10 team in the FCS this fall“

Glosses over the fact that they’ll be an “FCS” team with an asterisk , ineligible for the playoffs, and possibly not in compliance with Big Sky scholarship limits. They should be listed as an independent this year. Players joining a team to play for nothing, no playoffs, no conference championship, and no listing in many FCS rankings, like Delaware last year.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
The Big Sky still has a 63 scholarship maximum, partials can be divided among up to a total of 105.
I don’t see how Sac can bring in that amount of players and not exceed the 63 scholarships, divided or not.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
Sac announced 29 NIL signees, are reported by the Bee to have 50 via the transfer portal. How does that work within a 63 full scholarship limit, even if some of those are divided and distributed over 105 players. Are they entitled to FBS scholarship limits while in transition?
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
They don’t have an FBS schedule, they are playing meaningless FCS games, if they go 12-0, thats only important if fans think it predicts something about the team two years hence. 12-0, 11-1, 10-2 will get them the stories about they’re being deserving of being a playoff or bowl team, anything less is ho-hum. I think their season will be a success if the head coach sticks around, the players don’t generate bad news, and their recruiting next year helps them for when they start playing an FBS schedule, if that ever happens.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread

Success for them will be generating enthusiasm, plus giving the impression that they can sustain success. Ineligible for playoffs. Big Sky Championship may be dependent on whether they adhere to Big Sky rules on number of scholarships, which seems unlikely.
Sustaining success is going to be a challenge with the roster turnover and the rent a coach history of their head coach.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread

Is a meaningless Cal Poly game at Sac, going to draw better than the prior conference match between the two teams? The FBS aura doesn’t attach instantaneously and Sac’s fan base is going to want to see FBS teams, which is what the move promised them. Attendance won’t generate revenue to buy home games from teams like Cal Poly. The whole schedule is wishful thinking.
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread

As long as Davis is FCS they should play a maximum if 1 FBS game, more hurts their playoff chances, assuming Sac actually plays at the level of a FBS team, something yet to be seen. Would Sac be an upgrade to playing Cal, Stanford, Oregon, Washington etc.? If it is not home and home, Sac needs to pay the amount Davis would get from those schools.
  • Looking forward to 2025
It occurs to me that Devon King is the first former player to get hired at UCD for his initial college coaching job since Biggs gave Plough, Keane, Cody and probably others the opportunity. I’m not counting Randy Wright who had a quality control role for a season a few years ago.
  • Looking forward to 2025
I don’t have a dog in this fight, but if the coach says something along the lines of “I don’t know when we’ve had a player come in and make that kind if an impact” talking about his leadership qualities, and the player also produces on the field, and stands out with his athleticism, thats going to be the guy. I’m sure there are skill sets that Harper has, and I hope he plays a significant amount, although thats not Ploughs philosophy.
  • Looking forward to 2025

Sounds ro me like Pinnick is the guy, if healthy.
He gets effusive praise for leadership and work ethic, has the most athleticism. If the battle for the position is neck and neck between a player with five years in the program, and a one year player, the younger player likely has the biggest upside. Neither has meaningful game experience, and if you pick the senior next year you are again with an inexperiences QB.

At about 1:16 in the video, in response to an unheard question, Zaire says they have all five back. I assume he’s referring to the offensive line. So what is the story with Eli Simonson?
Is he coming back for the fall? Was he there in the Spring although not on the roster? Is the five back comment not referring to starters?

Plough gives recognition to three new corners,Ty Richardson, Trey Carr, and new freshman Drew Cofield, two young defensive linemen, Reyne Mayo and Jake Williams, and a redshirt freshman offensive tackle David Portesano, three fast but smallish receivers, Stacey Dobbins, Zach Jones and Sam Gbatu one of whom, Zach Jones, hasn’t seen much action yet.
It's encouraging that guys in position of need seem to be doing well.
  • Jon Wilner article on NCAA chaos
Inevitably. Players moving around for big NIL money will destroy fan enthusiasm. For each team that benefits, another’s fans are disappointed. The enthusiasm will be concentrated on a few teams, the disillusionment more widely distributed.

    Re: Itayvion Brown
The prosecutor and courts treated his gun charge and football tunnel fight like no big deal $5000 bail, and a pleas deal that had no jail time and seals his record from the public, even though he was 21. He hasn’t played in two years and this is his last year of eligibility. Last Chance U.
  • 2026 Football Recruiting
In these days of player movement between schools, recruiting students who value a degree will lead to more stability of the roster. Transferring usually comes at some cost in progress to a degree. With the COVID bonus year phasing out, players don’t have as much time in school.

Plough interview. Not a lot of new info here but some discussion of who is competing for open positions.
Seems recorded before the spring practice started but posted two days ago
