• Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
How can a independent put together an attractive schedule of home games, especially after conference play starts for teams in conferences? Sac isn’t that attractive a name or a draw for out of conference home and away deals. I don’t foresee quality FBS teams coming to Sac after their conference play starts,
Also independent FBS Sac would only have one FCS game count for bowl eligibility so if they schedule several they would be playing without any bowl prospects, so the team would be playing without a goal, no conference championship, no chance for a bowl.

I don’t think it was reported earlier.

Of the guys named probably none.will have any eligibility after this coming season.

The article on the web site regarding spring practice touts our 7th ranked transfer classes, according to Hero Sports, but that list I couldn’t find..
Here is a SI.com article with the same ranking, these publications are incestuous.
    No. 7: UC Davis
Notable Additions: Khalani Riddick (SEMO, DB), Jacob Psyk (Harvard, DL), Derrell Porter (Dartmouth, DL), Josiah Allen (UTEP, DB), Cole Batson (Boston College, DB)

The Aggies have an extremely small transfer portal class, but the quality of each player is what earns them this ranking. Five of the six major additions played over 400 snaps a year ago, including three FBS transfers. It was a defensive reload for the Aggies, who lost a ton of starters to graduation and the portal. Defensive backs Khalani Riddick and Josiah Allen will be instant starters, while two Ivy League defensive linemen (Derrell Porter & Jacob Psyk) are expected to replenish the front seven.

We don’t have three FBS transfers that played 400 snaps, thats an error. We have three FBS transfer, including LB Nate Rutchena from Cal, but he only played in 2 games, Batson also had limited playing time.
None of the listed names are on the spring roster at this point.
  • Looking forward to 2025
Eli is the invisible man. Has started 25 consecutive games, every game since he joined the team, but his roster bio lists as having never seen action. They haven’t updated the bio with 2024 as yet. The Career Tab does list him playing in the 25 games.

I heard Brock mention Vargas as the player aming the young guys who stands out, my guess is thats because Fisher being a sophomore is older?

Only a week away from spring practice. Roster lists Nava, but not Simonson.
However yesterdays article on the team site stated “Aggies can boast key returners in Rex Connors (DB); Samuel Gbatu, Jr. (WR); Winston Williams (TE); Porter Connors (LB); Hunter Ridley (K); Zaire Collier (C); Jace Rodriguez (G); David Main (G); Ernesto Nava (T) and Eli Simonson (T).”
Thats the entire starting offensive line, top TEs, one WR, and new starters in the backfield.

Plough said the two names to know as of now at QB are Harper and Pinnick.
  • Troy Taylor bullied female staff at Stanford
Interesting how easily a discussion has become demeaning with harsh and aggressive elements.
  • Troy Taylor bullied female staff at Stanford
I only know what I’ve learned from this discussion, but it seems there are too many unknowns to judge Taylor. There are no violations of California law alleged as far as I know.
Taylor treated someone in a way that they didn’t like, and that Taylor speaks to a number of people in “hostile and aggressive” tone. Maybe there is more to it.

Unfortunately I don’t think this reflects poorly on Sac.

But Woody for one got away with the occasional assault and throwing things for several decades. What was not a firing offense became one.
  • Troy Taylor bullied female staff at Stanford
That was a different era, abusive coaches weren’t limited to the guys you mentioned, but those guys big enough names to hold their positions for decades, while the rules changed without them noticing, that it was no longer ok to assault people or throw chairs.
  • 2025 NFL Draft Thread
Amazing for a guy of his size to jump that high. That is only four inches less than David “Skywalker” Thompson. Is the test done the same way as in basketball?

Guys, Stanford was not the first Div1A aka FBS win, UOP was Div 1A, Davis beat them In 1978, the first year they divided division 1.
  • Top Games from 2000-today
The loss to Grand Valley State at home was 2003. They were number 1 ranked D2 team, and Davis was still Div 2., but i don’t know if Davis was eligible in the polls.
  • Top Games from 2000-today

The run defense in that era for Davis was stupendous.
In 2005 NDSU gained 3 yards rusjing against Davis on 23 attempts.
The next year Montana State gained 2 yards rushing on 15 carries.

Davis was 0- 2 going into the Stanford game, but one of the losses was to a New Hampshire team that ended up ranked number 1 in 1AA for most of the last half of the season before losing to UNI in the quarterfinals. New Hampshire scored a touchdown in the final minute to win the game.

The Tulsa game. A FBS team coming off a bowl game. The impressive thing about it was the way the offense maintained drives at the end if the game, especially considering the pre and in game expectation that the heat and Tulsa’s depth would wear down the Aggies.

No. 21 UC Davis Posts 45-0 Shutout Against No. 20 Montana State. 2006
On the road, coming two weeks after Montana State beat Colorado in Hawkins’ first game as coach there. Montana State had just lost two yards on the ground and never got past the 38 yard line.
  • Aggie Pride: A UC Davis Football Podcast

Some comments on some of the guys you mentioned.
Cole Batson certainly has the resume to project as an impact transfer, but is he fully recovered from the injury that he sustained in 2023? He had two tackles last year. Some unnamed upper body injury.
D3 transfers to FCS may be rare, but Lamont Shamburger did it and played here in his first game, as a sophomore.
Dwight talked about Riddick as a guy who might play a big role, and I agree since he is a proven FCS level safety and punt returner. Here is an interesting profile of him.

  • 2025 Football Recruiting
Yes, but it would be simple for 247 to just use their own ranking of players to rank recruiting classes of FCS teams unless they don’t believe in their own rating.
Avoid the absurdity of ranking teams on the basis of whether they picked up 0 to 3 players with a composite rating, ignoring the rest of the class and then having publications like Hero sports write articles about that. If Montana States’ 23 commits is rated among the worst in the country, maybe the methodology doesn’t fit the use case.
  • Low Interest in Men's Basketball?

Does anyone recall the capacity of Hickey Gym? Would today’s attendance fit? That place was rocking for important games.
  • 2025 Football Recruiting
It is worse than the unreliability of the star rankings, the issue is they only use the score derived from averaging other entities assessment, That is all well and good, except the other entities don’t rank that many athletes , so their team ranking methodology ignores them.
For example Montana State has 23 commits, 14 three star, but none of them have a composite ranking, so Montana State gets zero points and ranks 202. Absurd.
