Starters or reserves every possession was a touchdown.
  • 2025 Week 5: Southern Utah @ UC Davis
Bronson Barron is a pretty good QB, seven TD, no interceptions, 66% completions.
I think he would have had a good career if he had stayed at Weber.
  • 2025 Week 5: Southern Utah @ UC Davis
Davis, after playing what was expected to be a bad team and winning a close game, and then playing a game where they were completely outclassed, finally has a game that is a good yardstick of how good they are. Southern Utah averaging over forty points a game is a good test for the defense. Davis is arguably the most underperforming team among big sky preseason contenders. Sagarin has two projections, one giving SUU a 70% likelihood of winning, one giving Davis a 73% chance of winning, so who knows.

I’m curious about who buys the suites. Is it donors who want to attend and entertain themselves, or is it businesses who want to enhance customer relationships. The functional difference is the later requires the game to be attractive to clients who may have no tie to the school. I suspect random people in South Dakota have more interest in attending a game, than random people in Sacramento Metro area. My limited experience with suites was as a guest at the AT&T suite at then AT&Tpark, where not too many AT&T clients wouldn’t want to see the Giants, so it was useful as a sales tool.

It isn’t so much that money begets money, it is that teams that have a hundred years of success, have built advantages. They have fan bases, 100,000 seat stadiums, that they can fill, the multigenerational traditions in communities, and mind share. The NCAA for generations created rules which maintained a higher level of competitiveness by keeping the wealthy from using their money advantage to directly purchase talent. Now the courts, totally disregarding the public interest in having parity as the public were not parties before the court, have eliminated those rules, creating a situation where only the rich can compete. It is for the best that P4 teams don’t play lower tier D1 teams in games which the lesser teams have little chance of making look like a contest, much less win.

Or any of the other three Dakotas. What is SDSU spending money on? Their tuition is quite low.
  • 2025 Week 5: Southern Utah @ UC Davis
Essentially a 3 year starter at Weber, including the five game spring season. Then played 2 games at Western Kentucky, and now this is his second year at SUU.
  • @ Washington
Weird that the scores were right but some of the defeated team was wrong. Corrected now.

Now you are going to make me check all these as i got that from an AI query.

The computer rankings have little data until there are a few games played and they have comparative scores. At this point in the season most or all computer rankings are still influenced by last season or preseason predictions, so garbage in garbage out. Last season is largely irrelevant this year due to player movement. I’m a believer in computer rankings but only after five or six games,

I find it irritating that analysts keep touting the five returning O linemen, when one is not going to play until later in season. Porotesano is a red shirt freshmen who played in two games prior to this season. ( I don’t know why the team does not classify anyone besides transfers as a redshirt-whatever, makes the team look older than it is,)
  • @ Washington
Does Washington deserve to be ranked? Time will tell.
Obviously they looked pretty good, but they haven’t played a tough enough schedule to overcome their initial placement. Pretty depressing if thats not a top 25 team.
  • @ Washington

Arizona knocked off Weber State 48-3

The imbalance is getting worse. Big Sky teams don’t have as many five and six year players due to COVID extra year phasing out and most Big Sky teams have been pillaged by FBS. The Big Sky isn’t what it was last few years. Add to that the migration of talent to the biggest P4 programs and you get completely uncompetitive games. Eventually these games won’t draw viewers.
Sac isn’t right often but give them credit for recognizing the uncompetitive situation the courts have put FCS football in.

    Are we detached from results?

I’m watching the Iowa - Iowa State game and the camera work is horendous. All tight shots away from the play, worst I’ve ever noticed. Not used to watching fox so i hope this isn’t typical

In recent years the defense has been good but not the best in the conference and prone to giving up big plays, and lots of yardage, and scores in the mid 20s. This year they have more of a pass rush, seem to have quality players everywhere so we should expect more, but so far defense still giving up big plays, sustained drives, and mid 20s scores, against average offenses. Not saying it might not all come together but it hasn’t.
  • @ Washington
FCS teams are getting picked apart too. Probably more so.
Davis has been an exception based on the value of a UC degree, but there will be fewer grad transfers now that COVID era players have aged out.
  • @ Washington
And Nevada. Natural and historical rival, within driving distance of Davis. Sometimes beatable.
