My wife is always looking forward as she plans family gatherings and trips. And each month I find myself making the same comment, “lets give it another month and re-evaluate.”

I sent in all my team aggie and season ticket renewal fees/donations anticipating we will have sports next season. Lets hope we have a season.

Three CSU schools — Sac State, Cal Poly and San Jose State — are on UC Davis’ 11-game fall schedule that begins Aug. 29 at Nevada.

Reports UC Davis Athletic Director Kevin Blue, “I’ve spoken with several of the CSU athletics directors from Division I and they’ve explained that the news hasn’t changed their preparation for fall sports.”

I always liked the Sacramento Union better than the bee. I dropped the bee a long time ago. The delivery costs were just too expensive for the product.

Great comments, but unfortunately we have plenty of people in Yolo County that are just as ignorant or cavalier about this virus. I was in the Woodland Costco just before the mandatory mask requirement. They were limiting the number of customers so the store was not crowded. I was wearing a mask and I hear some guy clearing his throat behind me then reaching in to grab an item right next to me. I told him to maintain 6’. He obviously didn't care. I am very forthright with people when shopping to insure the best i can that people show me the same respect, and distance, that I am providing for them.
  • San Jose game out?

Yes, lots of issues surrounding this. Rental market decline? Real estate value? Business's closing? I dont live in Davis, but in our community my wife and i have done our best to support the local businesses. Heck, I’m even paying my gym monthly even though it’s closed. I actually stopped going well before they closed down the gyms.
  • San Jose game out?
Well, I haven't sent in my football package and team aggie stuff yet but will do it before the deadline. God only knows how all these scenarios will play out.
  • San Jose game out?

I know there is a different thread on this but I’ll make a brief comment here. I took epidemiology decades ago, but as I recall, there are a bunch of ways to calculate this. For case specific rates, the denominator can be the entire population, OR a subset of it such as the number of those considered “susceptible.” For example, if you are looking at prostate cancer, women are excluded from the population. One might exclude vaccinates from a given population when calculating influenza rates.

    Sac State sucks

    Haha, love it.
  • Give Day for Aggie Football

Thanks for the reminder, on board.
  • San Jose game out?
They have a spirited tailgate area. I think their fans show up to party then go home, lol.
  • San Jose game out?

I’m sure all the various collegiate and professional sports groups will way in but my point was that the state is going to have to sanction gatherings regardless of what individual groups decide.

I’ll need to remember that one for a smack thread.
  • San Jose game out?
Things are changing daily, not sure how they can prognosticate that far out. But my guess is these decisions will be made on a state level.

Not sure about “the last great,” but I was really impressed with how Nick Eaton performed the last half of the season when he was blitzing from both ends. Speed and athleticism.

Excellent points. I would love to see if I have covid19 titer. I had a terrible flu late December that was different than any flu Ive ever had. The symptoms matched those listed for coronavirus. Ive seen the “accepted” timeline for this virus in the US, but do we really know?
  • 2021 Football Recruiting

Part of this can be explained by precautions taken, but it appears a big player in this is the virus genome changing from country to country affecting transmission. Interesting article on this recently came out of UC Health: https://health.ucdavis.edu/health-news/contenthub/genome-variation-gives-insight-into-coronavirus-spread-/2020/04

I dig it when we are loaded with talented receivers and the post game stats show a bunch of guys who made completions. Really puts pressure on opposing Ds.

BTW, stay safe and wear a mask :).
  • Update today from Dr. Blue
No way can any large events be scheduled in early summer because they would stand a very good chance of being cancelled again even if the rate of infection curve gets dramatically leveled The number of cases are expected to fall and rise sharply until there is an effective vaccine widely available to the world community. This is going to be a roller-coaster ride in all likelihood for a long while.

Absolutely agree. An effective vaccine with an immune population base will be the key once the infection rate curves down. These darn viruses can be shifty, so hopefully this one will not mutate. Scary stuff.

BTW, this came out from Kevin Blue a few days ago. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be shared. This is a good time to renew your season tickets. The department needs the support.

    Dear Aggie Family,

I hope this note finds you and your family safe during this challenging time. I want to send you another brief update about UC Davis Athletics; these will continue throughout the spring as information becomes available to share.

Spring quarter classes are underway this week with all instruction for students transitioning online. Student-athletes are engaged in their academic work remotely and our coaches and staff are practicing social distancing by working from home.

The safety of our community remains the top priority.

The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting economic activity around the world, and our athletics program is no exception. The cancellation of the NCAA’s winter and spring championships – including the NCAA basketball tournaments – led to an unfortunate early ending to competitive seasons and unexpected shortfall in revenue. All athletics departments around the country, including UC Davis, use a portion of the overall proceeds generated from these NCAA events to help fund team travel, scholarships and other important department operations.

Cancellation of the NCAA’s basketball tournaments means we will receive a lower-than-anticipated NCAA revenue distribution this year, this is why we are focused on operating as efficiently as possible and filling revenue gaps from other sources as best we can.

While we work through the academic, athletic, and welfare adjustments caused by COVID-19, we are continuing to raise financial support for our teams. The annual UC Davis Give Day event, scheduled for April 17 and 18, will remain a focal point of our springtime efforts to generate support for our student-athletes and programs.

In addition to directly supporting our teams, Give Day donors can contribute to a newly established Student-Athlete Emergency Relief Fund that will directly help our athletics department manage the challenges caused by COVID-19. Emergency travel and costs related to remote learning are a couple examples of how the department will support student-athletes. These funds, along with those gifted directly to our teams on Give Day, will make a very important and positive impact on next year’s budgets.

In closing, we would like to acknowledge the extraordinary work done by healthcare professionals, in the Aggie family, who are directly impacting the current crisis. You might have seen recent news reports that UC Davis Health developed an internal test for COVID-19 and is on track to scale up to 1,000 tests per day. Awesome work by our colleagues!

Last week UC Davis Athletics also donated 220 extra N95 masks to assist UCDH with its COVID-19 efforts.

I would also like to recognize Dr. Jeremiah Ray, our head team physician, whose emergency medicine training is playing a critical role in the COVID-19 response at the Sacramento Medical Center.

We recognize that COVID-19 is impacting everyone in different ways and are extremely grateful for your continued support. Please stay safe, and Go Ags.
    -Kevin

Yes it really is lousy news. But finally our beloved campus is getting proactive on this issue. I personally have been very disappointed in what I’ve seen coming out of the chancellor’s office. With our UCDMC playing a leading role worldwide on this pandemic our chancellor’s office has been a day late and a dollar short repeatedly.

Well, I guess we anticipated this. With the NBA games suspended, surely the dance will be as well.

We anticipated the avian flu was going to be the big pandemic and it fizzled out (but will be back). Give this a few months. Exposed folks recover and create a resistant population. Warmer weather will decrease the longevity of the virus on fomites and incidence will decrease. The biggest question in my mind is how much antigenic shift we will see with this virus. Moving forward, i suspect we will be getting a flu vaccine and a corona vaccine annually.
