• Start of season to be delayed
let me know if you are going, and I'll buy one of your tickets. or buy one in your vicinity. It would be good to be around another Aggie. I'm checking to see if my son wants to go with me. We went to the playoff game at EWU together a couple of years back.

Hell no! Moscow is in North Idaho. This is wheat and lentil country, and in Idaho's north-south rivalry is as animated as California's. No way could we agree to that name. I do like the MOSCOW, IDAHO MEGABOWL! name though. I need to figure out how to get into the Megabowl, sorry, MEGABOWL. Maybe I'll email Dan Hawkins and remind him that I used to make him sandwiches at the Coffee House.
  • COVID-19
Marc Hicks is mentioned towards the end of the article. He was one of the best Davis High School football players ever.
  • COVID-19
I had my first Moderna shot January 20, second is scheduled for February 17. I've heard the same thing, that the second shot will cause reactions. Fortunately my schedule that day cleared up. My assistant is on the same schedule as me, perhaps I'll plan on taking the afternoon off.
  • Big 10 Coming back, Mtn West pushing, Boise St furloughs
, my wife told our daughter that if she was going to bars she couldn't come over and visit our home. So she stopped going to bars, and when she caught the virus it was from doing the 'safe' or 'safer' thing. You're right, I don't know if outdoor dining really makes a difference, but I would rather eat outdoors than indoors. I've pretty much stopped doing either. No going to BWW for football on Sundays, but on the bright side we now have Live TV on Hulu so I can get the NFL and Premier League games. The downside here is that we've been hit with Minshew Mania, and on Sunday I got the Jaguars v. Titans instead of my Steelers.
  • Big 10 Coming back, Mtn West pushing, Boise St furloughs
my daughter, a college junior, caught Covid-19 from an asymptomatic, apparently healthy young woman. Between four and six of their mutual friends were infected by the same person. My daughter's contact was at dinner outside at a local restaurant. The rest of our family was quarantined for two weeks after the health department contacted her to inform her she had been in contact with someone who tested positive.

We had breakfast together the day before she was contacted. By the time she went for her test she was running a 101 degree fever. Two days later she got her positive result. I had gone to work the next day and was in contact with numerous people. Fortunately I did not get it and infect my colleagues.

She was fortunate to have a mild case, but she is still recovering and about a month later still tires easily. While not as fit as she was when she ran cross country and track as a college freshman, she is normally a healthy young woman who is not in any 'danger' groups.

That's why you would test everyone. The University of Idaho has come up with an in-house testing system but it isn't testing weekly. Students had to get tested upon their return to campus in order to attend in-person classes.

Here's an excerpt from a story about University of Idaho athletes today (8/4/20):
'9 Vandal athletes test positive for coronavirus
UI official says other students have quarantined, some with symptoms and others without

Nine cases of COVID-19 have emerged among 125 University of Idaho student-athletes tested during the past month, the school confirmed Monday.

The majority of reported positive cases are among football players, and two Vandal staffers have contracted the virus, according to multiple sources close to the program who spoke to the Tribune on the condition of anonymity.'

If I had to bet, I'd bet the same thing is going to happen across the country. It's hard to see football happening into October.
  • Lock Down Stress Relievers
I have a daughter at the University of Idaho starting her senior year and a son who is supposed to start his freshman year there. Right now UI is sticking to its flex plan calling for a mix of in-person and online classes, and we're waiting to see what the fall actually brings. This part of Idaho has had a surge of cases in recent weeks, so it's wait-and-see time for us. No prom for our son, and a drive-in graduation, but he's flexible and not too bummed out about it.

    Don't feed the troll.
  • EWU faculty report critical of football program and athletic department budget.
Yep, Colfax is a notorious speed trap town. To the south Jordan Valley, OR, is a great place to get a ticket on the way to or from Boise, and in the evening you can do a double and also hit a deer at dusk. They're all over the place.

I live a couple of hours south of Spokane, and while I wouldn't want to live in downtown Spokane I don't think it's all that bad. I chose not to attend law school at Gonzaga and went to the University of Idaho in Moscow instead, but I also prefer small towns. Cheney is not the same as Spokane. It's a nice little town. My son played his hockey games there a couple of years ago so I was up there most weekends those winters. Biggest danger was that I might die of boredom between games, or hit a deer on the commute.

we had those heaters last game too. I think our players handled the cold better this time. They didn't use the heaters as much this game as the last time. I also don't think it was as cold this game, but maybe that's because I was better prepared myself. We're lucky it didn't get really cold for either game. 25-30 is uncomfortable, but when it drops below 10 that's a whole lot worse.

According to Weather Underground it will be cloudy Saturday in Cheney but no precipitation is expected. They predict it will be a balmy 29 degrees. I will definitely have my winter boots on. I'll tell my son to dress for the weather and he will probably bring a sweatshirt.
  • How long do Coach Hawk and Coach Plough stay?
Well, if Plough leaves I hope he comes to Idaho. Without a buyout we're stuck with Petrino until 2022 or 2023, but he's worn out his welcome here. Moscow is a lot like Davis was when I arrived in 1979, though smaller. We stayed in Moscow when I was done with school because it's also a great place to raise a family and housing is affordable.

Just got two tickets, this time my son is coming with me. I'll be sure to wear my winter boots this time.
  • FCS Playoffs Round 2: UNI @ UC Davis
My wife persuaded me to use her miles to come back from Idaho to see the game. (She mainly said, 'Go see your parents and the game.) Go Ags!

'super fires,' if such things exist, don't burn equally hot everywhere. Sure, there are areas that burn very hot, but it's often a patchwork. Your argument about fire sizes between 1930 and the 80s misses one of the effects of vigorous suppression. Putting out all fires as soon as wecould allowed the massive buildup of fuels. That has plenty to do with the fires we face today, though there are other factors. As for Pyne not talking about the elimination of California lumber mills, that's not a fire ecology issue, it's an economic issue.

You know what really puts out big fires? Winter. The 1988 Yellowstone fires didn't burn for months because of Pyne's fire plans. They burned forever because conditions were ripe for that.
  • Week 12: CAUSEWAY
They are usually contract aircraft. Here's a good source of information on fire aviation: https://fireaviation.com/

Aircraft will cool things off but without firefighters on the ground they won't stop the fire. I doubt they would have made any difference when that fire was racing at Paradise.
