IF we are going into a non sports topic like this, I think schools are way more concerned about the enrollment cliff. What value or benefit does Sac State bring? UC Davis and other large research schools and systems will be less impacted.
I don't agree with that and the bean counters would not agree. When the games against Sac State were televised when no other game was, when Causeway fans sell out games, and when you see a lot of media stories the week of the Causeway Classic, that says it is more than a game.
At least circa 20 years ago, it was usually on the cable network that carries the non NFL Bay and Sac teams. It has had multiple name changes over the years. It usually aired on the Sacramento channel which is viewable in the Bay (except for Kings in the Bay and vice versa except W's in Sac).
True. To be fair, the Sac vs Davis game historically was the one non FBS game that was televised, not even the Horseshoe can say that.
Also they had an advantage that many teams don't have, hosting a rival every year. Now it will be every other year. I'm not an FBS or bust guy but I also follow Cal for my FBS fix and Davis for FCS so maybe I'm not the one to ask.
California Memorial Stadium was also build directly on top of the Hayward Fault so the renovation was made as much or more for safety reasons than game related. They also did it piecemeal because of concerns it would block views from Panorama Hill (fancy homes) or Tightwad Hill where people watch for free.
