and for the Dakota schools other than SDSU, it's hard to beat going to a dome in the winter. Granted you lose the cold weather edge but people like going inside in the late season.

Hoping SD holds off Sac today. They are up 17-0 but Sac is in the red zone in the early 2nd half.
  • Hawkins Stepping Down per SacBee
He was the right coach to get the program back on track. I wonder if Hawk had a hand in selecting his successor as this has obviously be planned for quite some time if they are already working on a contract.

maybe an RPI/ strength of schedule related issue? Or possibly that there are so many DI baseball teams nearby, they'd rather just play them?
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
Some schools might draw less on the holiday weekend than others? Honestly no idea.

Sac State has a tough schedule to start next year @SJSU AND Fresno but their BS Conference schedule is a joke, they only play Montana State away and play the usually "bad" teams like Portland State, ISU, Northern Colorado etc.

If anyone finds out what Sac States does regarding travel to the next game, I'd love to know.
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
I'm super curious too. Plus this is Sac State, it's not like they care about finals and studying.
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
darn, Sac pulls it off. This is not good for the Ags.

rushing TD at the UND 4.
    edit: 4
    sorry following too many games.

still fun to beat the Hornets! But you have an excellent point. Would be great playing SFSU or another local DII team. Does Sonoma still have baseball?

Sorry meant to type Sac State...
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
    UND up by a TD.
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
I'm rooting for UND. Suprised Sac got out to a hot start as you'd think the 10am start time would have favored North Dakota.
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
Good point, before they expanded the FCS playoffs a decade or so ago, a 7-4 season where they beat the two biggest rivals, including Sac after losing 3 straight games (and win first in Davis since Obama was president).

That's a great reminder. The NCAAF video games used to have goals in Dynasty mode. Certainly beating both rivals or at least Sac State would have been one.
    Overall, a successful season.

The FCS playoff expansion has made the playoffs even more critical. It is even more so at the FBS level with those playoffs mattering more than anything else, even a big bowl game. That drives teams to Power 2 or 3 conferences to make money at the expense of rivalry games and tradition. As little as fifteen or twenty years ago, an 8 to 10 win season with a bowl win was a major success at all but the most blue blood schools.

I don't see the Ags getting more than 7 wins next year. But obviously too soon to speculate.
  • Looking Ahead to the 2024 Football Season Discussion
Next year the committee will say that the Ags lost their last 3 of 5 games like Sac State did and keep them out.
  • 2023 WEEK 12: CAUSEWAY
    Yes! Great day for UC!
  • 2023 WEEK 12: CAUSEWAY
What do the rules say about rematches in the playoffs?
  • 2023 WEEK 12: CAUSEWAY
I would be really surprised. Like I said, I wouldn't be shocked if they matched the Ags with Idaho.
I think last year, the Ags were projected to play Sac in the second round had they gotten in and won.
  • 2023 WEEK 12: CAUSEWAY
Do Davis and Sac go for the same recruits locally? Does winning this game matter to some recruits?
  • 2023 WEEK 12: CAUSEWAY
True. I think Idaho is in regardless unless they get absolutely blown out, but you're right that looking to be tied for 3rd would be nice.

Do you think there's any chance the Ags could end up playing at Idaho? The committee loves having local teams esp out west play each other and they have not played Idaho this season. I would buy a ticket in a heartbeat. I'm sure Idaho Aggie wherever he is, would too.
