    What an ending.
  • WBB 2021 BWT and postseason
2017 and 2018 should be enough proof that nothing is certain in the tournament, for both players and fans.

Yeah, the combination of the removal of the game clock (shot clock is still used) and the playing to the target score eliminates the incentive/need to foul at the end. You play defense because the clock isn't a factor anymore. You'd still have stoppages for timeouts but it makes the end of close games run way smoother.

The ending of last year's ASG was great because it went down to the wire.

Survive and advance. Not pretty but job done. Rest tomorrow and play better Friday.

Have you heard of the Elam Ending? They used it in the ASG the last couple years and have used it in The Basketball Tournament as well. It's great.

In TBT, they play the first 3 1/2 quarters like normal and then with 5 minutes left, they turn the clock off. They add a certain number of points to the winning teams score and that's the target score. Then the first to reach that score wins. So it pretty much eliminates fouling at the end. Obviously a blowout is still going to be a blowout but close games are way better that way.

Somewhat concerning going forward we're only up 6 against a 2-14 team.
  • WBB 2021 BWT and postseason
Solid end to the half. Need to bury them in the third quarter to rest in the 4th.

I did have that same thought. Bad team is going to miss shots differently than normal (i.e. rather than being straight on and either a bit short or a bit long, they're off to the side) which leads to rebounds going in different directions.
  • WBB 2021 BWT and postseason
Lots of sloppy turnovers. At least twice we've rebounded on defense and thrown the ball away.
  • WBB 2021 BWT and postseason
Solid first quarter. Need to rebound a bit better though.

I will say, the one good thing about this year with the change in format that rather than playing a decent team right off the bat because of the byes, this year we now get to play the worst team in the league.

I know, famous last words. But playing a 2-14 team early is much better than playing a decent team that's gotten their feet wet by already playing and winning a game (or two) in a new gym.

A win is a win in the tourney but it would also be nice to come out and blast Fullerton in the first half so the starters don't have to play much in the 2nd half.

Women struggled a couple times also. 2017 they lost the early game and 2018 they barely won. But then 2019 they beat Irvine by 32.

I remember UCSB was the team I was worried about in the tourney. Their best player was injured in the game we beat them and then he came back and they beat us late in the year. But we matched up really well with Irvine. They liked to shoot 3s also, we just did it way better than they did. After we lost to Hawaii, Irvine beating UCSB made that loss sting even more because I was sure we'd roll Irvine by 10+ again.

We actually won in Hawaii in 2017 also. But here's the game you're thinking of.

Hawkins went for 40. Team scored 54 in the first half on 14-21 shooting from 3. Only shot 5-12 from 2 in the first half.

The loss in the BW tourney in the Corey Hawkins year will always hurt. We not only had the best team but were projected as a 13 or 14 seed, which means you winning a game is somewhat realistic, as opposed to a 16 where you’re more likely to lose by 40 than win.

We're pretty much relying on the starting 5 for the whole game. That could be a problem in the tournament. — BlueGoldAg

If we make it there, this could especially matter in the championship game when we’d be playing on back to back days.

Small sample but Hall was 20-37 from 3 this year but went 0-4 today and left 2 or 3 of those short. The general thought is that when you’re leaving shots short, you’re probably tired. I have no idea if that was the case for Hall tonight but she also missed 4 FTs after only missing 5 total coming into today.

Alright. Time to win 3 games in 4 days.

Hall has shot terribly tonight. 4 missed FTs and 0-4 from three with either 2 or 3 of those being way short.

Pretty ugly game. Hawaii has had a lot of open looks from 3 and just aren’t hitting (2-16). Give them 2 more and they’re still only at 25% but then it’s a 4 point game.

We’re going to need to play better to win the tournament.

Great start to the half. Keep it up and bury them.
