• Aggie Pride: A UC Davis Football Podcast
Lou was a LB from 72-74. First team all FWC as a senior. They probably didn’t talk much about his playing days because he was selected for his coaching/contributor. Not sure why they list his time as 1997-2015 in the press release. He coached much earlier than that

I think the answer is ‘no’. I think they’d like at least one more for football scheduling reasons. They’d, of course, like 12 so they can have a playoff but that’s not likely

from a basketball perspective, I think this is great. Back to 10 teams, without the scheduling considerations made for for teams traveling to Hawaii, will mean a more compact conference schedule. No more mid December conference openers (or worse, conference openers during winter break).

Plough said they were hoping he’d be back soon. I thought he might have played against Poly but must not have been cleared. I believe he’s coming back from leg surgery.

that SUU win is looking better (at least according to Sagarin)

I’ll stick with UNC as likely. EWU will take an effort like last Saturday (without allowing as many chunk plays)
  • 2024 Week 8: UC Davis (6-1) @ Eastern Washington (2-4)
Eastern feels more dangerous to me than Idaho did, mainly because they can put up points. Conversely, they seem to be able to give up points at a healthy clip. We're going to have to get off to another fast start, and play a smart, clean game on offense. I feel better about the fact that they don't seem to like to heave it down the field (not exactly a defensive strength of ours).
  • 2024 Week 7: Cal Poly (2-3) @ UC Davis (5-1) Homecoming + Battle for the Golden Horseshoe
I just watched the Connor pick 6 and still cant figure out why Wulff was so worked up. It was a screen, our DB was fighting through the block, and Connor snuck in to pick it off. Unless there was something away from the play that set him off, I don't get it.
  • 2024 Big Sky Scores
we had two turnovers last night - both on trick plays (although the pass from Lan would have likely been a TD had it not been picked), and I don’t remember an offensive penalty into somewhere in the 2nd half. We were laser focused on offense - something that needs to carry forward

I’ll sell you a shredville hat. Feels like I’m advertising a shredding company!

Weber had 5 turnovers, 4 fumbles!

Did the TV guys speculate on why Wulff lost his mind on the pick 6? There seemed to be contact out there, but I’m not sure what allowable especially if pass was behind the line if scrimmage. It seemed like he was directing it toward the referee and/or officials nearer to him which didn’t make sense (off side?). My son pulled up the broadcast in his phone but I couldn’t see anything obvious on that small screen.

By the way, did anyone mention band uniforms were the more traditional blue? I wish they’d ditch some of the time out promos and song snippets between plays (what is that? The best of smooth jazz?) and let them play a bit during the game.

Wonder why no poly band? That has been a big deal for the two bands.

I wonder if our OLman set some kind of (dubious) record of getting two unsportsmanlikes in his only drive of the game ….leading to ejection.

Here are the last 8 games. First one was a nail biter, but every other game, beside 21, hasn’t been close.

cuz San Jose kicked their butts and they are hailed as the prime example why the NCAA is making it harder to make the FBS jump. I don’t think job recruiters are tracking them and their valuable diplomas.

It’s true schools like Boise and Gonzaga got big boosts in applications and enrollment with their emphasis/success in athletes. I don’t think we need any help in either area.

ive interviewed many Davis grads over my career; still waiting on a Kennesaw State grad to walk through the door!
  • 2024 Week 7: Cal Poly (2-3) @ UC Davis (5-1) Homecoming + Battle for the Golden Horseshoe
I can’t tell how attendence is determined after Idaho, but today was a pretty full house. Student sections were mostly full, grass was full, and the west sudevwas as full as any game this year. Students stuck around all night - incentivized by a raffle giving cash throughout the night!

on the alumni ZOOM, Plough was saying how that last drive was the perfect example of Aggie Pride. Said the players and fans should be so proud of that gutty effort.

I told him, as a spokesman for the older fans, we’d be just as proud of a 14-point win. I’m still suffering from a 30-0 beat down in poly in 1980!

a $200 would be a tiny increase in overall fees (2%?) but it would lead to a very heated discussion.
  • Pac-12 set to add Boise, 3 other MW schools
unfortunately, the NCAA has made changes since 2023 to make it much more difficult to move to FBS ($5M transition fee, 103 scholarship limit). But maybe between community funding of facilities and NIL, and a large increase in student fees, they can pull it off.

in 2022, Sac's athletic budget was $35M; the median in the MWC was $50. so, if they want to get to the median, they'd need to raise $15M (remember, this is before the increased scholarship limits). increases in tickets will help, let's say $6M from TV (wild guess), and $9M from increased student fees. that would only require an increase of $300 per student. I'm not sure that kind of increase would be embraced on the Davis campus.
