in the not so distant past, when UOP was part of the 8 team big west, we partnered with the Tigers, Poly-UCSB, Irvine-beach, and CSUN-UCR. Made for a nice schedule. Hawaii mucked up everything!

We still get an occasional central coast trip (those two visited us in December). Else, the schedule seems random. Leading to us being finished with Irvine, SB and Poly, before we see Hawaii or Long Beach!

UCSD lost to the Beach. I guess we should be rooting for the Tritons since they can win the title, and any win helps keep us in top two tournament slots. The beach is 3 behind us with 2 head to heads. Others are starting to fall back too far to catch up

They don’t have many scorers. A lot of games in the 50’s. If our offense plays well, I think we pull off the central coast sweep somewhat easily. That being said, seems like we struggle a bit at luxurious Mott Center

only thing I can think of is they don’t want schools making a jump just to take in NCAA payouts. Else it makes little sense

I was talking about the double technical they whistled after the last 1st timeout on Mitchell and Leo. The was Leo’s 3rd, Mitchell’s 2nd but he picked up 2 fairly early in the 2nd half. He single-handedly got them back in the game, but had to change his game after the fourth. Also TY didn’t get any more so he could get aggressive later in the game.

Both guys were jawing but it didn’t look to be aggressive - both had a smile. I think the ref from behind overreacted. Helped us!

Don’t want to play them again in the tournament

USCD is ineligible (last transition season) so we’d be one of those top two if we hold serve. I might go to Henderson this year!

Pepper REALLY struggled on offense in the second half BUT he made several key defense plays especially in the second half.

That double T played a big role. Mitchell was unstoppable (TY didn’t guard him due to his fouls) before he had to came out after his fourth. Wasn’t the same player after that. That was a BS call - it looked like both players were trash talking with a smile. I think ref overreacted because they had let the game get out of hand in the stretch before that.

How’d they improve so much, so fast? 5-13 last year to tied for first. Transfers?

check Irvine’s roster. They might have as much or more experience as us. Probably explains the battles we have.

Irvine depends on high school recruits probably more than anyone in the conference. I was checking the program today and they had something like 10 guys listed with a high school (as opposed to the college they transferred from). Greet program.

The official timeouts ALMOST drained the life out of the gym. Still not sure what happened with the Tomba T - I thought they were debating an Irvine flagrant on the drive.

I looked at our 1980 roster and we had about 10 guys from LA, 2 from San Diego, 3 from Bakersfield and 10-12 from the Bay Area/San Jose area. A lot of guys from the i80 corridor. They hit the road occasionally and crammed as many schools as possible in a day.
