There are ways to do it without burning the place down. Set number of kegs, whatever. Overregulation won't be a problem for a state entity... That video cracks me up, hadn't seen those "highlights" in a minute!
Well, since that was me, here you go. Dr. Woods should be held accountable by the local media. He has made promises best not uttered. I have been highly critical of his public ineptness at managing expectations.
Earlier this year, the local media gave him a relatively free pass on asking the tough follow-up questions. But the growing missteps left no alternatives. I give him credit for doing an almost hour-long interview with KCRA, an apparent attempt to do some damage control.
As for LeBron Antonio Hill, the opinion writer, he’s been overwhelmingly negative. And, those are his opinions, but his starting point leads him to that outcome. His priorities and vision for the university seem to clash or are not in sync with what Woods is trying to do. His calling out the non-deliverables? Absolutely. I wonder if his last op-ed would have been written differently if he had done the work Brandi did in the interview with Woods.
Also, the Bee ran an upperclassman's critical op-ed, but he doesn't speak for the entire student body, and they should run a counter-opinion by another student.
Woods does deserve credit for getting the student fees locked in to support athletics, and for improving the basketball venue, hopefully a short-term fix.
As for the future, who knows? Hopefully, not a bust.
Most of the students that I've met around the tailgates have been upperclassmen by a wide margin. CMT is onto something; hopefully the game marketing is ramped up in the common spaces and dining halls and around town. The good DrMike brings up a very valid point as well as far as rides out of town. Going to be interesting... $1 beer and $1 hot dogs would be epic. Crank it up to $3 or $5 or have some sort of package deal ($3 beers/$5 for a beer and dog until we float "X" number of kegs of cheap beer?). Tap it and they will come...
Why are we assuming the student section will be barren due to the dorms closing? Only freshmen live in the dorms which still leaves 3/4 of the student population who still has a place to stay in Davis. Do students stop going to football games when they become sophomores or something?
Football dorms attached to the building? BRILLIANT. Probably not moving out of there during a playoff run. Team dining hall: NECESSARY. At a UC, you could probably combine all sports, or the sports that share a building, but that seems to be an area that bothers Plough. Position meeting rooms: I'm not sure of how that works at Davis, but I don't think every group has their own room. Weight Room: ours might be nicer. Not sure on the Nutrition Station. That is a MUST. Locker Room: not sure, haven't spent time in ours but guessing the new one at UND is nicer.
All in all, we're probably not that far behind, but the housing/nutrition pieces are bigtime pieces that always seem to come up in the off-season or this time of year. We need to feed our guys at an elite level and figure out what to do with them if we're going to be playing during finals week every year!
I'm a little torn on that South Dakota @ Montana game -- both teams were impressive last Saturday, Yotes on the road, who I think benefitted from a Freshman QB going off the rails, Griz at home, beating a good SDSU team soundly.
Think that home environment is too much to overcome. Weather should be partly cloudy and mid 40's, good weather for Missoula that time of year...makes for a better day offensively, which is in Montana's favor. Look for Montana to overwhelm Bauman, work to shut down the explosive Yote run game...but if South Dakota can string together some big runs, it's going to be a crazy game.
