A simple logo in a square or circle format is needed to work right on social media handles and score bugs. Complicated or rectangular logos get too small. I’m ok with the Lemon CA in this case but I am more partial to the Block CA. An alternate that would be too complex for most uses but would make some great vintage merch is the Block CA with the horse and wheat. Before that there was an interlocking CA where the C formed the cross of the A which I also like the look of. I’m a traditionalist. I like the blue tops, gold bottom and gold helmet with script Davis. I guess alternate looks are needed for recruiting but I sort of feel that if you already have the boss level attire, no need to look further. I wouldn’t be opposed to leaning more into “Davis” and “Cal Aggie”, although it can get confusing when one or more players on the field have the last name Davis.
I like the winemakers. I hate the idea of anything cow related. I was on campus for nearly five years and I only saw the cows once during freshman orientation.
I can appreciate different opinions truly, but being the Aggies is synonymous with the creation of our university as a whole... At least it is in my humble opinion. I don't know if I want to throw away 100+ years of history just to have something different for the sake of having something that stands out as being entirely unique.
Love seeing the younger generations sharing their thoughts!! This is your university!! Once all of us old guys are gone, this will be yours to continue our legacy.
If you really want to make some noise and completely change the perception of Davis....change the mascot from the "Aggies" to the "Winemakers". I know it will never happen, but if we changed the name it would highlight one of the main things we do better than anyone else in the world and it gives us a immediate unique narrative...instead of "stinky cow smell university"...its "the home of Wine producers"...
Now when TV and writers talk about Davis its not through a "Its a UC...but we really don't know the difference between Davis and Fresno St...." but when you say "welcome to UC Davis, the home of the best wine makers in the world..." that rings a whole lot different....and people with money....like wine....
they like status....and a simple name change does that.
The uniforms have come a long way since the 2000s-2010s. Glad we ditched the arena football horse logo. The Heritage CA is the best. Davis script is cool too.
I'm a fan of no-name on the jersey. I know OP is a younger alum but us old fogeys know that it's a Davis thing / traditional college football thing to NOT have the names on the jerseys. Coach Plough went back to those ways when he took over. I remember when I was in football in high school, the first day of practice, our coach told us he didn't want any GDIs...
my main gripe with the current uniforms are that there are no gold on the jerseys. The school colors are blue and gold not blue and white. I think the block gold numbers with the white/ blue number shadows would take the uniforms to the next level.
The new episode with Coach Plough is one of my favorite to date. Coach Plough dropped a lot of interesting information in this one regarding the transfer portal and the roster going forward. Great stuff! Would have been all that much better if Dwight had been on as well!
Haven't seen anything from the official Davis football account, but looks like we got a commitment from Robert Meyer, a transfer portal kicker from Missouri! GO AGS!
Out of high school he had offers from Fresno State, Missouri, Oklahoma State, and UC Davis
I hope two things :1) those losses to poly and Bakersfield don’t bite us in the butt; 2) we don’t add to our trend of losing to the teams at the bottom on Saturday.
Jaden Rashada somehow was able to transfer to Mississippi State after his limited and failed run at Sac State. He's a prime example of what's wrong with the transfer portal and state of college football as a whole... He's on college #6 already.
Fug, it works thru the preliminary injunction process. If the court decides the Conners have a good chance to prevail in the case and would be irreparably damaged if not allowed to play in the 2026 season, then the court could issue an injunction against the NCAA requiring it to allow the Conners to play next season. The actual trial on the merits would come later. Which of course by then be too late to effect the Conners eligibility. Fait accompli, if you will.
Transfer portal guys have been signing over the last week and once signed the university is allowed to publicize. They just decide to announce as a group at the Feb signing day.
They were one of the worst teams of my lifetime (early 1970s). Even Temple and UMass had some decent years, but rarely IU. The Bobby Knight teams of my childhood were easy to get on board with, but all I imagine when I remember the football stadium there was that it had an odd shape and nobody was there!
Cignetti had a very solid blueprint, one which it looks like Chesney at UCLA is following. Find a tough, G4 coach with a boatload of 3- and 4-star talent. Poach the best players with the most to prove from that program and have them follow the coach. Spend your money on areas of critical need (for IU, it was the Offensive Line, RBs, and one WR) and take mostly guys with more than a year remaining. Mendoza was a trash heap guy by Portal standards. Develop them, play together in year one, then the magic occurs in year two. Really happy for the Hoosiers, especially the fan base! You have hurt long enough
I was born and raised in Indiana until I left for the service at age 19. My mother, father and sister all graduated from IU. Basketball was always great but football was never good so, following the Hoosiers this season as they went on to win the National Championship undefeated was as exciting as it was mind-boggling. Talk about a "rags to riches" story...!
