Nothing wrong with bringing some entertainment to the big sky! The statement is really fun in my opinion, creates some narrative for this season and gives people someone to hate. Rooting for Sac State to put us in the top 5
A Montana loss is better for us I guess but, man, the way they are going about doing things over at Sac and the constant hyperbole from Dr Wood really puts me off so I'm a Montana fan for this game.
Honestly the corners have seemed to play really well even when depleted. Only one touchdown given up by Cofield on that Utah tech long pass and one by Bell when the game was already over vs Weber state and 0 for Richardson while he was playing. So I am confident in any combination of the three of them(considering they are the 3 we've seen)
Passing efficiency formula has # of attempts in the divisor., so its good things - bad things per pass.
Opponents have tried a lot of passes because 1) It works better than rushing 2) we don’t get off the field on third down so opponent runs more plays and 3) they are behind.
The good news is our run defense is better than commonly thought. 3.2 yards per carry, in third place is Montana at 3.9
Especially when he’s playing a lot of man coverage. Very hard to get interceptions in man. More of a zone thing. To put in perspective, Revis didn’t win DPOY in 2010 after having the best season as a corner in nfl history.
Hawaii has the right guy steering the ship (alum QB Timmy Chang), he'll never leave, and he will get guys. When Hawaii stays in it's lane and isn't traveling to the Eastern Time Zone and gets to play seven or eight home games every year with Wyoming and/or New Mexico being their worst trips, they will compete. Nobody really runs their Offense anymore (Run & Shoot) and you don't need 4-star players to execute; you need football players that understand defensive coverages who learn to adjust routes. EVERY route is a sight adjust. They will pick-up some stud transfer WR/TE types because of their location and will be a royal pain to defend. They're comfortable shooting it out with opponents but will naturally have some of the better Front 7 personnel in the conference. Their definition of success isn't predicated on NIL money; it's more like ohana and Island Pride with some renegades and undervalued receivers mixed in.
UNLV is going to be the standard in that conference. Facilities are unbelievable and there is a lot of money behind them. Mullen is an outstanding coach and a very likeable guy. Air Force is consistently competitive and a nightmare to prepare for so they'll always be in the mix. Their NIL pitch is that every player gets paid anyway, and walks into an $80k job the day he graduates so that is attractive. Northern Illinois beat Notre Dame last year and is mostly good in my lifetime. Those three will be the top tier. In the middle, SJSU is very well run and Kenny has experience getting a lot out of very little. Wyoming was good not too long ago and has great facilities and a wind that never stops blowing. The bottom tier is Nevada, New Mexico, UTEP, and for now, Wyoming, with the Cowboys are probably the closest to getting into that middle-tier of the conference and going to a bowl.
We'd definitely be biking to games if we lived in Davis. It's great time for the family, we get to do that here in Boise, park along the river and ride bikes on the greenbelt 10-15 minutes to the game. Thinking about doing that this week. It's probably going to be the last chance here to see a game in nice 60 degree weather.
Montana always overrated now matter how good they are.
Amen to that. I remember when the Ags beat Montana in Missoula last year - nobody in Montana really gave the Ags a chance. Was cool to witness the victory there.
Montana State is decidedly better than Montana. Even with home field advantage at WaGriz I don’t see Montana winning the brawl.
I honestly think the new (remaining) mountain west is pretty decent and will end up being a good FBS spot for Davis. Decent teams that often go to bowl games and occasionally stack up 10 win seasons but are not constantly CFB playoff level teams. Also geographically it’s pretty great with sjsu and Nevada so close and the rest of the school almost in the same travel footprint as the Big Sky.
Preview of the Mountain West (what's left of it that's staying) - a couple of the best, UNLV and Air Force were head-to-head last Saturday - how would the Aggies match up?
If I recall, #14 had a nice play on our sideline vs. NAU, right? Nice to see a receiver listed above 6' out there, but the sub-6' dudes have been absolutely dynamite this season
When you draw 26K to every home game, you don't have to play an FBS game (or two, like some FCS teams do) and instead can make your money scheduling an extra home game in the non-conference.
agreed they haven't really played any great competition and are already in a subpar conference plus have no ranked teams left to play if I'm not mistaken
Yeah but they look at the FCS rankings, both informally when determining that mid season top 10 but also formally as one of the criteria the night before selection sunday
Montana State is clearly the best Big Sky team based on conference games, which is the only way their schedules compare. Not even a close call.
You can’t have it both ways, give a lot of credit for playing a tough schedule and then ignore the losses. How tough would Montana States schedule be without the teams they lost to? Tarleton State is undefeated and has a better win, Army is better than Southern Illinois. Gets back to the question if what the goal of ranking is. Is it to judge how teams have performed already or guess who would win a contest? I lean towards who deserves it based on their record.
