Oh, I forgot. The Modesto Nuts have 3 mascots: Al the Almond, Wally the Walnut, and Shelly the Pistachio.

One fan had a little too much to drink and I heard him call out to Wally, "Hey, WALTER !" They take social distancing very seriously

  • Jenner says transgender girls in women’s sports is ‘unfair’
That's fine for all the non-essential workers who have oh so grueling zoom meetings in their homes. Those of us who have to be around others and have to smell them need to shower regularly, maybe skip one on the weekend or a couple if on vacation.

These types who harp about the environment are such huge hypocrites . You know what's bad for the environment ? People. People (including myself) are all basically parasites and I'm at peace with the fact that I'm basically the equivalent of a mosquito on this planet. Even the crunchiest of vegans who wears hemp clothing and shoes and rides a scooter powered exclusively by their own farts is a parasite. Want to save the Earth ? Don't have children, I say. Seriously. All that food not eaten, all those car trips not taken. The pandemic has done a better job of protecting the environment than all the environmentalists put together.

Oh, and bringing this back to topic. No children=no future student athletes to worry about. Problem solved.

And yes I did enjoy "The Last Man on Earth". Don't know why Will Forte's characterhad to do his business in his pool instead of anywhere else Even with all people gone the outside and TP still exist..duh. That was so funny how a volleyball was his wingman when he went to go ask a store mannequin out.
  • Jenner says transgender girls in women’s sports is ‘unfair’
I always hated that. What's to stop the fathers of these children from complaining to the police that you exposed yourself to their daughters if you accidentally exposed something on the way oug of the shower and didn't know they were there ? If it goes to court probably gets thrown out on the father's negligence but still a waste of time and money. Gyms should have a mandatory free daycare policy for locker room time-free if it's under an hour. No children allowed in there. Besides, the sight of all those hairy out of shape men could scar them for life. If it were even possible for one simple thing to flip a switch and turn a female lesbian that would be it.
  • Jenner says transgender girls in women’s sports is ‘unfair’
I hope you reported that guy. Huge hygeine issue + that should concern them if the gesture itself doesn't.
  • Jenner says transgender girls in women’s sports is ‘unfair’
This is a really tough issue. The sensible and sensitive things to do are rarely the same.

I think that the transgender female student-athletes need to be allowed to play. If you don't you're sending the message that transgender women aren't really women, which is something people have been working really hard to rectify.

Really I think Caitlyn Jenner has been watching too much South Park for her own good. Probably saw that episode where Macho Man Randy Savage goes by Heather and beats Vice Principal Strong Woman in every event of an athletic competition. For anyone who doesn't watch the show (probably all the other regulars and most of the lurkers) Caitlyn Jenner is a recurring character as vp to President Garrison (who is pretty transparently representing Donald Trump). On the show she mainly just says un-ladylike things and runs people over with her car.

Now South Park is a ridiculous show that is good for some shock laughs if you have thick enough skin to get past the many offensive things. It's meant to be ridiculous and sarcastic, but when life starts to imitate the show you know you're in trouble.

Jenner is exhibiting some gender-based biases and transphobia of her own. Who says all transgender female students are taller and stronger than their cisgender counterparts ? I think she's parroting the fictional Randy Savage joke. And then there are the concepts of gender and body dysphoria (sp ?). You can't possibly know how much of a role that plays in someone's decision to make the transition. Aren't you just as likely to see shorter and less muscular males decide to be female ? Do they have a competitive advantage in female sports ?

This whole thing seems like it is seeking a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
  • The Causeway Cup that wasn't, 2020-2021
Two years now with no Causeway Classic baseball. I suspect Sac State might make that a more common occurrence since they have playoff aspirations. Next year they may not be so good..losing some key players.

The Big West has sent mixed messages about it. It has had baseball-less members (Utah State, Idaho, and UC Irvine-until the 2001-2 season), affiliate members (Sac State) and they told CSUB they had to have a team to join. Now that there are 11 members that play it. I don't think they'd have a problem with 1 team opting out.

Remember, no BW team competes in all sports. Some don't have both soccer or tennis teams; at least 1 doesn't have softball. UCD doesn't sponsor men's volleyball.

Now to make this relevant-I hope UCD's better baseball players (like Jalen Smith and Kyler Arenado) don't pull a Squires or a Yanez and jump in the transfer portal or decide to play basketball instead. There we go.

Please scroll up. 69aggie asked a question about baseball as it relates to the continuation of sports (budgetary concerns). MLB has a direct impact on the college sport financially and in terms of fan support. I'd explain why but you clearly aren't interested

You're free to talk about basketball. There are 3 pages of responses on yhis topic. Some scrolling is necessary.
  • COVID-19
I got my second dose of the Moderna vaccine yesterday, and I sure am glad I scheduled today off based on the experiences some of you have shared. Good advice, thanks.

Maybe about 2 hours after the shot I started feeling light-headed. Not tired enough to sleep, but I wouldn't trust myself to drive right now. Some arm and leg soreness, but to be fair the leg soreness might be from walking around Cal Expo to the clinic, and then the store later.

I'm more upset about what the All-Star game re-location says about the people in charge. When I heard about that I immediately cancelled a trip to Denver. They don't need my tourism now..

69aggie The virtue-signalling on the Giants is suffocating. Everytime something happened Gabe Kapler had to have his condemnation of it up on the internet. He manages a mediocre baseball team-who cares what he thinks ?

69aggie. There was a pitcher they had last year-Sam Coonrod- who refused to kneel during the national anthem for religious reasons. The players and coaches made this big production about how accepting they were of his choice, as if they were the most open-minded people in the world. But then he was traded to Philadelphia for a minor leaguer who probably won't make it to the majors. They spun it off as an opportunity to obtain a minor league prospect. More likely they were getting rid of the turd in the punchbowl.

I wouldn't say baseball is safe from being cut at some point. There are some warning signs that the program@UCD may have been operating very frugally for years out of necessityand the pandemic and are in some degree of trouble.

-lack of travel, and what there is mostly west coast. Apparaently per the D-I baseball website UCD was telling prospective opponents they could only travel within CA. Part of that is due to the pandemic but money is a huge factor.

-Vaughn's contract seems to have been leaked online and it seems he voluntariy took a pay cut at some point in the past. Coaches don't typically do that unless they absolutely have to avoid cuts If that's for real he is underpaid for a D-I coach

-With football and bball if the teams were losing this many of their games the coach would have been replaced. Baseball only gets a new coach when someone retires or qujts. I think softball would get a replacement first.

-The Big West admitted two baseball-playing members giving them an odd number, and an insanely high number of conference games. For scheduling purposes they probably wouldn't be too broken up if they lost trips to Davis and could play an extra non-conference series.

-The team is not very competitive in conference play. Sac State used to be an affiliate member and were asked to leave. The official reason was they didn't want affiliate members but everyone knows it was because the hornets sucked back then.

-Lack of recruits from out of state.

I'd really like to be wrong about this, but even more successful programs are struggling financially. If I had to guess I think they'll end the program when Vaughn's contract is up as he is the biggest personnel expense. Due to the transfer portal making things easier to move on they might take the Boise State approach there. Again,I hope I'm wrong. I'd much rather see baseball flourish than one of the niche women's sports.
  • Give Day
Exactly. I don't understand why other posters feel the need to try to rally against negative talk, so long as the negative talk avoids personal attacks .
Fugawe09 shared some information and some negative experiences, and you knew after the first post this wouldn't be a fluffy thread about how great Give Day is, so you have only yourselves to blame for being upset. It's fine to have differing opinions and to share them, but respect that people have different experiences from you and you shouldn't be invalidating them by being incredulous about all the negativity. Has anyone even bothered to say, "Hey Fugawe09 that's pretty messed up what they did to you. I've always had positive experiences in donating, so I'm disappointed to hear that you didn't" ?

And on the subject of different experiences I will share that I don't feel motivated to donate more or attend the more popular sporting events because I do not feel welcome in the city or at the university. Not going to elaboarate on that because one of two things will happen.

    1) Crickets
    2) Someone will try to invalidate it.

Sorry, not intending to hijack the topic.
  • Ok, this is eerie...
I know you were- I was just having some fun with you lol.

I can tell you that I enjoy major league baseball a lot less than I used to.

One reason is it has become a toxic mixture of virtue-signalling, performative activism, self-promotion, cancel culture, and social media obsession. How many major league clubs actively and publicly protested police brutality against African-Americans to this extent before George Floyd was killed ? Not evem the leftist douchebag San Francisco Giants. They all knew it was happening and didn't do a darned thing until it became popular to do so.. Nobody wants to be force-fed the performative activist garbage that MLB is regurgitating in order to promote itself. Rich MLB owners have probably caused their share of police violence themselves by sicking them on the "riff-raff" they can't bear to look at.
The players aren't much better. Were they also born yesterday ? I'm sick of these elitist douchebags calling for the police to be de-funded when they often have the resources to hire private security while they sit in their expensive homes and tweet about how outraged they are.

And social media-someone please cancel Trevor Bauer. The fact that the 2009(terrible season for them) UCD Aggies gave that clown his first collegiate loss brings me quite a bit of enjoyment. He has such a huge ego that he asked Twitter followers to send him videos of why he should sign with their team. He also allegedly harrassed and stalked online a female Astros fan over a benign comment when he was with Cleveland. And he probably gets his jollies from reading online how much people hate him. And now they're investigating him for cheating. Hope they find something . He'll probably be so outraged by this post in this liitle corner of cyberspace that he'll join the site and offer a counter-argument.

There are a few other reasons but I think the first one was pretty compelling. No amount of tinkering with the game structure is going to make the owners and players collectively look any less despicable.

I have a ticket to today's A's game (bought the smaller flex pack a couple months ago thinking it would be fun...stupid, stupid !) but I'm skipping it. And when I skip a game I don't give the ticket to someone else. If a sports team pisses you off you don't reward them by sending a replacement fan who will spend the same amount or more on food and souvenirs and probably share photos on social media, giving them free advertising. They could care less who attends as long as they make money. You punish them by leaving the seat open and taking the extra revenue away from them and then raining hellfire when you get a fan survey asking you about the game you didn't attend. Their punishment for the garbage fan experience that was the last game I attended was the fofeiture of that extra revenue for one game.

MLB isn't prepared to deal with someone like me who is prepared to just walk away. Ask the River Cats. I've taken away at least a thousand dollars of my own business over the years just because of their lazy stoner hippie attitude about people sitting in the wrong seats and then being nuisances. These teams think we need them and use it as an excuse to treat fans like cattle, and the pandemic has given them even more of an excuse to do so. MLB will face its reckoning soon enough.

I have a ticket to see the minor league Modesto Nuts in a few weeks. Hopefully the experience greatly simplified will restore some of my interest in professional baseball.

As for Aggie baseball it's often difficult to watch if you care about the outcome. I honestly had more fun watching Chico State and Fresno Pacific beat on each other two years ago. No horse in that race, so it was just nice being outside and watching a game somewhere different. I've said this before but UCD baseball is a labor of love. The players and coaches care, but the university doesn't, with the way they leave it under-funded and under-competitive and under-promoted The liberals in the university administration would just as soon replace it with co-ed ultimate frisbee and turn the school into PCU. That movie was supposed to be a goofy satire, but it's coming true, much like Isaac Asimov's science fiction writing is coming true. Seriously, read the Caves of Steel series written decades ago. Eerie
  • Give Day
I resent the idea of Give Day, being told when to donate. I give what I want when I want and getting text messages and calls asking for more irritates me. I block all the offenders and hang up on Annual Fund.

Since I also gave money to Sac State's baseball program they put me on an email list I guess. Got the strangest message the other day. Clearly it was soliciting donations but it was a list of home events this weekend and they strongly emphasized that they were home events. Why would I care that they are home events if the public is not invited to attend ? They could be playing in Florida for all I care. There is likely a subtle hint here- donate more and magically become an invited guest of one of the insiders.
  • Ok, this is eerie...
69Aggie got something much different from AggieFinn's video share than I did lol.

I would say Aggie baseball is anything but dull. Lots of yelling from the dugouts you can clearly distinguish. Lots of excitement, usually for the other team, hence the 9-21 record.

What's really keeping the fans away is that they don't know there's a team and they don't know about it because it hasn't been that geat since 2009. Very talented players but the whole is less than the sum of the parts.
  • Baseball 7-19
Wait they've got 1 more game today. Fart !
  • Baseball 7-19
The Aggies are 2-0 since I started this post. Maybe I should criticize them more often

    FOUR IN A ROW.
  • Baseball 7-19
8-19 now- need to hurry up and cover the rest of what I was going to talk about before this thread gets buried underneath more posts about football games that have already happened and I can't find it lol.

So where was I ? The hitting has been a mystery this year since Jalen Smith is doing well and the replacements for the departed starters are filling in quite capably. Mostly the bats have been quieter than you'd expect from this team. Even with today's shutout win over CSU Bakersfield the offense got a boost from sloppy Roadrunner play. The Roadrunners were so sloppy the CSU San Bernadino Coyotes could've beaten them. That was funnier in CCAA days.

Hurting the situation are the many different lineups used looking for consistency. Fortunately the bats of Gedestad and Morrison have warmed up so the offense has picked up a little lately. Still haven't gotten the production out of the DH spot but it's looking up.

The team has made 35 errors in 27 games. Not good but not horrible. In fact they've had several errorless games, so the potential is there. Arenado leads the team in errors, but you expect that from a college shortstop. They have to cover so much more ground than the corner infielders. One definite positive is that those 35 errors have led to only 30 unearned runs and in only 2-3 games have those unearned runs cost the Aggies a win. What that means is this year's team is keeping the cluster**** errors down.

Take out the games decided by errors and questionable
pitching changes together and it still wouldn't be a winning season. Overall, it just hasn't been that great a year but hey... THREE GAME WINNING STREAK.
  • Baseball starts today-maybe.
I was very surprised to read that. I had turned off the game tracker when they went behind late.

The people who attended that game for the first time yesterday might have been duped into thinking the team is good, but they're 6-19 ! I have a lot of ideas on why the team is so bad this year, but this will require a 2 hour sit-down to type out.
  • April 1st+ possible fan attendance?
According to the box score baseballl had fans in attendance yesterday-about 150 of them. They didn't do any good though. Team is now 5-18 (0-9 BWC) and they've lost 10 in a row.
