  • WBB 4 pm Sunday: Central Florida (6-4) @ the Aggies (9-0)
Bertsch is back in. We'll, C. FL is playing true to their scouting report. Aggies having trouble rebounding + buying buckets.

Funny. #22 On each team scored the 1st bucket. Bertsch took a spill though. Took her a moment to get up but she looks ok.

There's a light jazz band in the park. They played "Tequila", a song that Pee Wee Herman made insanely famous. That's exactly the kind of song I think should be played softly *sarcasm*. No one yelled, "Tequila !!!!" probably because they didn't recognize the tune.

Sometimes it's easy to forget the slower pace of life in Davis. There's this guy in the Jack in the Box who felt the need to loudly state 4 times that the coffee was good. After the lady at the counter didn't acknowledge him the first 3 times he said it from his seat he went up there to tell her. That was probably the most exciting part of his day up to that point. I've really started to appreciate this sort of thing. I'd move back here if I could make the commute work.

Anyone want to place a bet on how many Green Day songs the band will play today ? Just kidding !
  • 4 year extension for Vaughn
Just for fun I sat down the other day and figured out how many games I've attended: (that actually counted): 180. That's about 9 per season. Seems like a lot but I've seen well over 200 River Cats games since 2001. Of course it's much easier to attend that many when a team plays 72 home games a year.

The Aggies are 111- 69 in those games, 105- 60 at Dobbins Stadium. I have seen them play Sac State 27 times. The Hornets hold a 14- 13 lead. Wow, fifteen percent of the games were against the same opponent !

Then I broke it down by coaches:

    Phil Swimley: 65- 29
    Rex Peters: 20- 11
    Matt Vaughn 26- 29 (24- 26 at Dobbins)

The Vaughn win- loss record surprised me because it's a lot better than his overall record, especially the home winning percentage.

Seems I need to attend more games. I've earmarked 12 dates this year. We'll see.

I decided to go. For a Sunday afternoon game that likely won't have many students attending this should be fun.

On a side note has anyone else noticed that the downtown UC Davis Store only seems to ever have small + medium t- shirt sizes available ? What's the deal with that ? Do they think all the customers are skinny short people, or do all the larger people buy everything up quickly ? If the latter, order more ! Come on, look around. Are people (especially men) mostly small + medium t- shirt sizes ?

I'm sure that they will order more if you ask, but that's inconvenient. I may not want to make the purchase in 7- 10 business days. If I take the time to come into a store I am not expecting to be told that it's not in stock in my size. I don't shop online.
  • 2018 Recruiting List
Lol you already kind of dated yourself with the 69 in your username, assuming 69 is for 1969 and not just your favorite number:D

The Lekkerkerker boys played for both of those teams between them
  • Aggie WBB up to #8 in this weeks Mid-Major Poll
You know, I think I haven't seen the women's team play since a doubleheader in which the men lost to SAC State. Don't know when that was. 2012 ? I remember that Darius Graham was one of the freshman players.

I think I might make the trip. Would be nice to get out of town for the afternoon. As I get older I enjoy leaving SAC more and more.

Edit: Consulted the UCD archives. It was 11/22/2011 against San Francisco.
  • Jake Maier nominated for Hero Sports Newcomer of the Year
Ok, I voted for McElfresh. Just kidding. That sounds like an air freshener you put in your car that can mask the scent of hamburgers.
  • Three star Cali DE needs a home, Syracuse release
Syracuse has a football team ? This is like that time I saw a cat food commercial in Spanish.
  • Keelan Doss named to AP FCS All-America Team
Great honor for this young man
  • William Jessup
The Stat tracker made some funny errors today. >:O Apparently Strom and Nelson made appearances in the game, and only the stat tracker caught it

This is the age of extreme political correctness. No one should have any offensive boards. William Jessup needs sensitivity training.
  • MBB 7:30 pm Wed: Pacific (4-3) @ the Aggies (5-2) 2nd game of a DH
Perhaps the teams are going to play football instead ?

I volunteered at Cesar Chavez Elementary my senior year. Interesting school. The kids, regardless of their background, get all their lessons (except for English) in Spanish and have to speak it in class. Way to take advantage of that early childhood learning curve ! Those were some pretty talented 2nd graders, except for 1 girl who would just say como se dice and then rattle off about 4 sentences in English without stopping to breathe.
  • LaRue Softball upgrades begin!
With only two months until the season starts I would guess temporary bleachers for 2018. Although there's still technically enough time to install pre- fab seating weather may be a serious impediment.
  • ESPN: Doss invited to TX as Finalist for W. Payton Award
Well deserved indeed. I'm glad you clarified that it is the Walter Payton award. For a moment I thought he was a finalist for the Wellington Payton award which is presented for excellence in pancakes.

Looks like Jake Maier won't get his free watch. Maybe Doss can buy him one when he gets his pro contracts.
  • 2018 Roster
One name that may be on that roster in 2018 is infielder/pitcher Spencer Gedestad, who would probably be a Red shirt freshman. He was a member of the team in fall ball last year, and I heard a couple of the parents identify a player in this year's games as Spencer, but they didn't know what his last name was. The team needs a couple more infielders as evidenced above. If he is a non- scholarship player Gedestad could have redshirted without having to be on the roster.
  • New woman’s sport
I was a Spanish major. That's how I wound up @Sac State as a matter of fact. I don't know if anything has changed, but back then UCD didn't offer many single- subject teaching credential programs, just English, Math, and P.E. In fact UCD shared a few adjunct education professors w/SAC, including this one British lady who liked to put down the Irish.
