Twitter is live so I guess that means that they at least have cell service in the building?

Stream was going great, then died.

#5 public school int the country and 3 hours from Silicon Valley.

I understand the potential the commentators see in Diane. With his shooting ability and length he could be a solid 3 in the NBA, especially if his outside shooting continues to improve. I watch a lot of Mountain West basketball (which despite what the folks on the Big West boards would argue, definitely is a higher level of competition if you look at national rankings) and Diane would easily be a starting 3 or 4 there. He'll be NBA-ready at some point even if he isn't right now.

Now would I rather have him compared to some of the best players (and in particular, shooters) that have come through our program? Probably not, especially with the academic eligibility stuff this year.

Well, 2-0 on the weekend, on the road, on ESPN3.

Neither win was pretty at the end but I'm getting more and more confident in this team by the day. If we're not contenders this year I suspect we will be in the future given the young talent

    Pretty exciting game.

What was the discussion when they were showing all the WBB stats around halftime? I had the TV muted at the time

I think 8 especially seems reasonable for FBS because you can have autobids for the P5 champions and a G5 team. For FCS I'd put the bare minimum at 12 so you could guarantee autobids to the playoff-eligible conferences while leaving at-large spots
  • WBB: Hawaii (6-8, 0-1) at UCD (5-9, 0-1) 2 pm Saturday 1/11
Tago for Hawaii just can't miss from 3
  • WBB: Hawaii (6-8, 0-1) at UCD (5-9, 0-1) 2 pm Saturday 1/11
Looking like a contender again. With Song and Bessolo out no less
  • WBB: Hawaii (6-8, 0-1) at UCD (5-9, 0-1) 2 pm Saturday 1/11
They had the game up on a projector in the Team Aggie area, it was a nice touch. Decent turnout regardless
  • WBB: Hawaii (6-8, 0-1) at UCD (5-9, 0-1) 2 pm Saturday 1/11
I think Sanders has possibly outscored the entire Hawaii team since the end of the 1st
  • MBB: Holy Names (4-7) at UCD (5-10) 7 pm Jan 3rd Free Admission
That's how we got UConn to come play the women a few years ago; they had a marquee matchup with Stanford the same weekend. Still bonkers to think about how we actually swung that.
  • WBB: William Jessop (9-4) at UCD (4-8) 2 pm Wednesday, January 1st
Hope there's a quick recovery, we'll definitely need her for conference.

I'm not sure what I expected out of this game but the statline sounds like a nearly best-case scenario. Consistent defense and contributions by the bench is great to hear.
  • Bertsch drafted by the Dallas Wings
Morgan just got profiled on the Sac ABC station -- I'm guessing as sort of a year of sports in review segment. Nice interview clips with her and Coach Gross from earlier in the year.

Weber holding San Diego State to 6 points at the beginning of the season was nuts. Yeah, SDSU's offense leaves a lot to be desired, but keeping an FBS team that finished 9-3 out of the endzone is crazy.
  • San Diego State gets $15M for new stadium
From what I've read about it, the short answer is that this is just hype to solicit more donations and/or some nice starter capital to start getting shovels in the ground.

Long answer is that the finding situation is super complex because the Q is losing money with maintenance right now so the city can think of the act of destroying it as an annuity worth millions per year. They could pass some of that on to SDSU by offering them a sweet deal on the land.

SDSU does expect to take on debt to fund it, but they expect to pay that off with annual revenue from eventual sponsorships. So their up front cash outlay will be a lot less than $250 million or whatever the total estimate is now, and therefore this donation actual does matter a little
  • San Diego State gets $15M for new stadium
no, this is the Qualcomm site. What this gets them is a better collegiate environment and eventually a second campus on that site, though the main undergrad campus will still be five miles away.

SDSU physically does not have enough space for an on campus stadium of the size they would want without taking out a few buildings and/or a neighborhood, so that's probably never going to happen.

To be clear though I'm still very stoked about this. SDSU is already consistently a top-10 group of five team and I'd love to reach Boise levels of consistency
  • Tedford resigns; 4 Defensive Cal & Stan players to transfer
In fairness to Fresno, my understanding is it's not unilaterally unpleasant, and I assume that at the HC's salary you can afford a pretty sweet house there. That being said it doesn't really seem like that much of a step up from the UCD job to me, especially not for Hawkins as a Davis guy.
  • MBB: Aggies (2-7) at Northern Arizona (3-1) 5 pm PT Wednesday 12/4
forgot about that legendary Hawaii game. The crazy thing was that was before Hawkins became a legendary 3-pt shooter, if I remember correctly
  • WBB: Sac State (1-3) at UCD (1-4) 6 pm Tuesday 11/26
Checking in, just wow. Wish I could have gone. Hopefully this is a huge confidence builder for the team
  • CAUSEWAY 2019
I wouldn't exactly call them "proven" coaches. We've now had one dream season and two disappointing seasons under this staff.

Yeah, maybe I am a little hasty to let go of coaches. The two 2-win Gould years after which we still kept him for another year are still fresh in my mind. The school and community raised the investment in the program and this current staff raised the talent level, I'll give everyone that. But we also need to raise the expectations now.

I honestly believe that given the name recognition and resources this school has and the associated recruiting advantages that we should not be finishing under .500 against FCS competition. I understand that the academic requirements are a limiting factor, but it needs to be clear to the coaches that they're expected to find a way to win regardless, like Sochor did in the D2 era and like Stanford did for many years in the Pac-12. Especially when you look at what this school offers recruits in terms of environment and opportunities compared to basically the entire Big Sky sans Cal Poly.

For the record, I am cautiously optimistic that we'll show some improvement on the current course -- as I've said before I think that this staff did make some positive changes, and we can't control for injuries, and I'm excited for the new facilities. But even if we improve to getting about 7 wins per year on average (which was probably our theoretical peak this year), that's still underperforming in my books. EWU just got 7, was a bubble team, and this is a really disappointing year by their standards.
