  • PLAYOFFS Week 15: UC Davis vs. winner of #12 Illinois State vs. SEMO
They’re still free but you can’t just flash the card at the gate anymore, you have to claim it online in advance. I think that’s for better attendance tracking purposes but forget the details.

Haven’t yet seen how they’re handling it this year for playoffs

Ginormous. Same with some of the late game decisions vs Idaho.

Ags were 3-1 in one possession games if I count right and I’m not sure we would still be top 8 if any of them went the other way
  • Other Games, 2024
Looks like NDSU scored another TD but highly questionable the RB got across the lane imo
  • Other Games, 2024
I think we’re en route to the two worst outcomes of this game, which is a USD win or close loss. We need one of these teams to explode for 3+ TDs here
  • 2024 Week 12: #2 Montana State (10-0) @ #4 UC Davis (9-1)
I believe this was the biggest non-Orientation crowd ever for the stadium and puts this season in the driver seat to be the best attended in school history. Vibes of that 2013 ESPN basketball game where like 6,000 people saw the Ags almost knock off Long Beach -- even a close loss there arguably started some special in terms of attendance and home advantage.

Definitely glad the student section was rocking and (much of it) stayed to see the comeback. That's hopefully the kind of story that spreads by word of mouth more than the final score.

Stunning performance. UCSB was undefeated at home in that very impressive soccer stadium in 2024
  • 2024 Men's Soccer
Aggies up 1-0 on a Goodman score!

I think ASUCD or some other institutional sponsor bought some amount of student tickets, I found a press release saying students were able to manually pick up tickets with their IDs.

I would hope a deal is being worked on with ASUCD, UC Davis Health, or like UCU/Pepsi/WestVillage to subsidize again (and hopefully digital tickets).

Pretty much anything is better than playing prime EWU on the red field in quarters -- hosting Nova than Mercer will be tough but a much more doable path to the semis than the 2018 run
  • 2024 Week 12: #2 Montana State (10-0) @ #4 UC Davis (9-1)

Can they retroactively declare a redshirt year? Perez had what looks to be a single touch in 2021 which normally would be a sign that a freshman was redshirting -- I don't know if they would have had to make that determination during the season though
  • 2024 Week 12: #2 Montana State (10-0) @ #4 UC Davis (9-1)
Wow, Plough is basically going to have to rebuild the entire pass game next year around Gbatu, Dobbins, Williams, and Simpson

Actually feel better about the run game even without LL because Fisher is so explosive
  • 2024 Week 12: #2 Montana State (10-0) @ #4 UC Davis (9-1)
Someone on the FCS Fans facebook group challenged me about Davis's resume against .500+ teams which draws some interesting comparisons:

MSU: 3-0 vs even/winning teams (home games noted), #6 (H), #37, and #39 (H) in Massey. New Mexico probably would be winning in the FCS (Massey would slot them in as the #9 FCS school behind Montana) so maybe we can say 4-0.

    Davis: 3-1 vs even/winning teams: #6 (H), #8, #27 in Massey. FBS loss.

MSU might be in its own tier but in terms of FCS record it hasn't actually demonstrated that yet; folks are giving them credit for an unblemished record, FBS win, and crazy margins of victory (fair, I get it).

How was the playoff atmosphere/mindset different than the regular season? What would be his advice to Hastings and the rest of the Aggies to prepare themselves for a likely first game at home and difficult road game(s) if they advance?
  • 2024 Week 11: UC Davis (8-1) @ Montana (7-2)
Also, Plough and staff have me totally believing now. It’s like the different eras of Aggie football (Biggs/D1 transition, Sochor legacy, Hawkins rebirth) all kinda got packaged into this next-generation juggernaut.

Relatedly, playcalling creativity seems to have returned to the Hawkins-era Shredville offense (trickery, wildcat, sweeps, etc). Over on Egriz they were pretty jealous of UCD’s system
  • 2024 Week 11: UC Davis (8-1) @ Montana (7-2)
I’d call this the biggest win of the Plough era and 2nd or 3rd biggest of the post Biggs era (after Tulsa and maybe 2018 Montana)

Stanford win is on a different level though imo
  • WBB: San Diego State (1-0) at the Aggies (1-0) 5 pm Friday 11/08
you know technically this is a Pac-12 After Dark game
  • 2024 Week 11: UC Davis (8-1) @ Montana (7-2)
If I remember right from that 2018 comeback game in Missoula, the Ags switched to silent counts in the second half with the center doing hand signals to ready everyone — and if they needed to audible Jake and Keelan would go right up to the line and shout in peoples ears.

    Crazy stuff
  • 2024 Week 10: Northern Colorado (1-7) @ UC Davis (7-1)
I’ve changed my tune on this kind of beat down over the years. The committee hasn’t cared about our SoS or head to head in the past so not sure what they expect us to do other than 1) upset top teams and 2) layer on points on the non top teams
  • FCS Rankings
Well to phrase it another way, Massey is predicting Sac to be 5-4 in FCS play slightly favored (by a FG) at home against what it predicts would be an 8-2 team in FCS play.

I personally think it's more likely that Davis wins based on recent form, comparing performance against EWU, etc, but I think the model is more just reflecting that a middling Big Sky team hosting the #2 Big Sky team is still anybody's game, which I kind of agree with
  • FCS Rankings
Feel like we've already litigated it but just to ruminate further -- while not ranked in a poll, Davis' second-best FCS win was @Weber which finished the year #17 in Massey -- better than Sac's best FCS win / second best overall win #29 NAU.

Call me petty, but if Sac finishes this year 7-5 (with current Massey #5 being their best win and current #34 being their second best) I would fully expect and hope they get left out based Davis' experience.
