  • Week 4: Idaho state at UC Davis
    Fumbled and recovered by defense

Why does every team that is remotely in a position to win (excluding Cal Poly here) execute better than the Ags

Whelan just flipped the entire field, wow

yeah the analytics are one thign but I assume the analytics also assume things like your best skill players are in the game

Uh, not sure how I feel about that run up the middle with our 3rd-string RB on 4th down from our 28 or whatever

Feel lucky they only got three on that drive, honestly.

Unforced error to spot them good field position followed by some absolute dominance from their running game. I wonder if we'll start stacking the box, or is the staff rightfully worried about letting them pass?

First I heard of it was Marsh mentioning it on the first play when he noted Larrison was in

Oh huh learn something new every day

Honestly I think the home attire this year is really good, but I hope we still have the gold helmets in the rotation. Less important with few fans, fewer games, and no homecoming now, but hopefully in fall the classic look makes a comeback for at least a few games
  • April 1st+ possible fan attendance?
you'd think the 4 points you mentioned would work better than they do honestly. UCD Sports are a very good value proposition to a college student looking for something to do on the weekend

The only time I worked directly with student-athletes, one of the rules/requests from the training I remember was to keep it confidential if you even saw the student-athlete in a cast or limping or whatever during normal interactions. Obviously that's not something you can keep 100% secret because the injured athlete still has to attend classes and stuff, but it was clear there was a concerted effort to lock down on any injury information coming out of program, and I suspect that was either for ethical or competitive reasons or both, not for legal reasons since we're talking observations, not medical records
  • WBB: #5 Missouri State (21-2) vs the Aggies (13-2) 4:30 pm PT, Monday, March 22nd
According to a WaPo piece I read, apparently we get nothing from WBB side. Profit margins are obviously less for the NCAA than with the men, but it's apparently not very transparent either way. Didn't look any further into how that works though.

We're apparently the #4 FCS team in Sagarin right now with obviously not enough data. But if we win out I'd argue #4-6 might be about right unless Weber somehow regresses

Little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I think the team played with heart and overcame amazing obstacles this season and Jen Gross is a crazy good program builder. This season in particular the team just shattered expectations.

But it's frustrating that UCD's major spectator sport team with the best chance at any sort of postseason relevancy at the highest level of play (maybe Men's Soccer too, sure) has yet to even keep a tournament game particularly close. And this time it was a mid-major team performing at about the level we're trying to obtain. When I checked up on this game I literally started to wonder if Gross's squad needs to lead the nation in three-point shooting each year like the Men's and Women's teams occasionally have to even stand a chance against decent postseason opponents.

Maybe the Morgan+twins team could have made something happen if the committee was actually fair to them in seeding. And it has been fun to see UCD "upset" power conference teams in the WNIT. But I gotta say, the path to anything in the NCAAT except this result seems pretty closed right now, and that's not fun.

My understanding of how the funding works too is that the school (but basically the conference) gets a payout by appearance/team. So a conference having one team win a March Madness game is equivalent to a two-bid conference having bad games in the first round (like MWC this year) from a payout perspective. So it's a big deal to kinda equalize things just a bit.
  • Week 3: Cal Poly @ #21 UC Davis
Oh I should have looked at the right hand column lol

I think you're right, he was a year behind me and didn't redshirt IIRC, and I remember reading about him in grad school

Was that Manu Luuga run the one he did on his first snap as a freshman?
