I didn't fret a month ago when I assumed that there would be an announcement later for it getting streamed on Facebook or something, but with a week to go and seeing nothing I'm wondering if nothing is planned
I don't see how Coach Hawk couldn't spin the scrimmage into something positive unless it was a catastrophe, like an all-team brawl or something.
"Well, we've got some young guys still developing and some returnees who are a little rusty from summer but will be back to their old selves in no time" is realistically the worst thing anybody be willing to announce.
So I have to imagine that the blackout is just because Hawk doesn't feel like talking about it and is not something too bad.
My Bay Area friends, including my old Davis roommate who's never been to a football game before, are all coming!
I don't think they care too much about the score (hopefully -- I've tried to be realistic with them) but the hype around Aggie sports is finally building to where they can't ignore it anymore.
Lol, I think I may have provided the tip for that.
There was a guy in the FCS Fans facebook group asking for people to talk about their school's traditions so he could write an article, so I wrote a comment about the Helmet Rule.
It looks like he just got most of the info from an article about Petersen from some years ago. Does anybody know if Hawk still enforces it? I thought I read that Gould didn't.
If he's decently athletic it will be cool to see a guy with that kind of height in the Avery/Lawrence/Michael position.
I like the trend of getting children of pros. Probably means they had good mentorship when they were learning to play -- maybe we'll see an advantage in fundamentals?
The Raiders coach let go of the normal punter, Marquette King, a few weeks ago. As far as I know Wadman is currently the only punter on the roster and will be a camp leg at minimum. Since he's technically number one on the depth chart that means two of of 32 starting punters in the NFL right now are Aggies!
I'm not sure how much other UCD news we'll see in the draft since Doss is staying. At least two players UCD has played against recently -- Allen from Wyoming and Penny from SDSU -- were first-rounders.
For what it's worth, on the UC Davis subreddit I see more and more people complaining about a housing shortage since I graduated -- they're growing the university each year and while admin is somewhat keeping pace with freshman dorms, there hasn't been much housing growth for upperclassmen. As a result the private apartments are getting more competitive and more expensive.
So I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that the Sac campus might have housing. And I heard the idea was tossed around a few years ago in strategic planning meetings.
I think 69 might have been referring to FERPA, which does cover the release of many education-related pieces of information. It's been a while since I had to deal with it but Wikipedia has a relevant comment (emphasis mine):
Examples of situations affected by FERPA include school employees divulging information to anyone other than the student about the student's grades or behavior, and school work posted on a bulletin board with a grade — Wikipedia
So we maybe won't ever know unless someone from the school leaks it or there are actual criminal charges.
I'm sad I didn't get to see much of the WNIT, but I am still so impressed with this group of athletes.
The same squad (basically) went 5-2 in postseason play over the last two years, with several of those wins being against Power 5 teams. What a magical era of Aggie WBB.
I shouldn't talk like it's over though. Morgan, Nina, the twins, and co. will be out for revenge in the BWCT next year.
