I think that package has very little benefit these days compared to just running the ball out of the pistol or shotgun. Our backs are very good and one took a snap himself at Stanford, and CJ didn't demonstrate that he could pass effectively out of the wildcat.

Also, bakonydraco, who's kind of a legend over on the reddit college football forums, put together a great post on how many losses each team can afford, supposedly based on historical records of how many teams each conference gets into the playoff. His model says we can afford 2 losses to be guaranteed the playoff and 1 loss to get a bye. We're the second-most secure team after NDSU right now because we're at 7 wins and #1 in conference.

I took to the FCS Fans Nation Facebook group and they say that the higher seed always gets to host; only the first unseeded round is based on bidding. (Apparently different from NAIA.) So we're in really good position to get at least 1 home game, and could get up to 3 if we win out and nab the #2 seed

It's moments like these where I begin to suspect that we legitimately have the best coach in the FCS, or at least the most desirable one for our particular situation. Turning a 21-3 deficit into a 49-21 blowout also leads me a bit towards that conclusion

That is an NAIA manual referring (apparently) to their football playoff. Confusingly, it's entirely separate from our NCAA FCS tournament.

They have about a 3:1 ration of rushing attempts to passing attempts but partly that might be because they're in the lead so often in the second half.

Let's face it, we're going to have to beat NDSU in a playoff game at some point in order to prove we're "up there" like the Bison and JMU. Next year's OoC matchup will be a barometer of where we are as a program but if an elimination game comes before then that's just the way it goes.

It will be interesting to see if we move much this week. A big win over a famous school at their place might motivate the East Coast voters to give us credit, even if they didn't watch the game and see the first half
