college consulting report - scholarships for equestrian

The UC Davis Equestrian team has the equivalent of 5.13 full scholarships for roster of 41. Not sure how that is currently spread out amongest the current team, and how it was planned to be spread out for incoming freshmen/next year's team.

No insight whatsoever. Just saying if reinstatement is their goal, follow programs who were successful in getting reinstated and stop trolling/posting crap/mudslinging on social media.

If Equestrian gets reinstated, I'll be standing up and applauding.

But... the constant trolling of Rocko DeLuca/UCD Athletics social media posts of what looks like a coodrinated crew of UCD Equestrian parents/supporters is a horrible look for them. Any UCD Athletics social media post right now... it's like "oh no... here goes another Equestrian related reply to it...".

They should focus on the playbook Concordia and Marshall did to reinstate their women's swim programs (none of which included trolling their athletic director/athletic department social media posts).

The thing that makes the arse pucker up for me in paying the $17 mil to go FBS now is the forthcoming College Football Super League scenario in the next 5 to 6 years.

What if the relatively new FBS program doesn't make the cut and is relegated down?--->If that happens, what makes that situation significantly better than being in FCS?

(don't get me wrong - I want to see UC Davis as prominent a football and overall athletics program as possible. as a newbie family, we donated what we could in the Fall Quarter and will again in the Spring).

    usa today college athletics finances

This is 2023 data. Davis at #76 - $44 mil in revenues and $40 mil in expenses then.

overall UC Davis 2025-2026 budget (intercollegiate athletics is in here)

Budgeted 2025-2026 for expenses is now $48 mil.

Hopefully revenues end up linear from 2023 and keeps things net positive.

Couldn't find anything on total endowment $$.

UC Davis Aggies website mentions athletics has a total of 77 specific endowments contributing to scholarships, coaching positions and team operations.

UC Davis fees to join Mountain West

UC Davis already has the entry fee and obligation to increase Men's Basketball Expenses for first three MWC seasons.

Also appears UC Davis is getting a pro-rated share of MWC media rights deal (starting at 1/6) and will get full share 2031-2032. Men's Basketball gets 25% of new MWC media rights deal ($3.5 mil per team?)

So if UC Davis did MWC football like North Dakota State at this very moment, they'd pay $17 mil entry fee, would have to increase football expenses, limited media rights...

And like others have mentioned, you have the super league proposal lurking in the background which means everything is going to change anyways in a few years.

North Dakota State Athletics program revenues and expenses

you'll have to scroll through, but once you do you'll see NDSU athletics department revenues at $29 mil and expenses at $30 mil.

and now they just spent $17 mil to become FBS.

And No Media Rights for Six Seasons

As part of the move, North Dakota State will not get money from the MWC media rights deal for six seasons.

in this new NIL/House Settlement world, too many college athletics programs are in deficit spending mode.

if UC Davis decides to move up to FBS (or whatever higher level it will be), what needs to happen to not be one of these deficit spending programs?

    thanks sochor/zander for info.

brand new here and have a kid that just started frosh year at davis.

was cool to see that the fb team made progress in attendance last weekend!

in 2005, i was at the game where davis beat stanford in basketball and saw students rush the court.

how often do the FB/basketball/other sports teams get out and engage/volunteer in city of davis (population 66,000+)?

what's been the struggle to get a consistent "x %" of the 31k+ students out to games?

it's a college town located close to a greater metro area of 2.6 million (growing alumni base... businesses)...
