Solid play on both sides of the ball for the Aggies in this one. I think the Ags will be sky high for SUU next week. Wish I could be there but it looks like I'll be watching Kanab, Utah, or somewhere nearby.

    Thanks for the well wishes.

The sheriff said they have had about 300 deer accidents in the county so far this year. He said most crashes happen when people try to swerve to avoid hitting the deer and said it's just better to hit them than swerve...yikes! He said the deer often will see their shadow when a car is coming and get spooked by the shadow so they try to flee from it and then jump into the roadway. He told us when that happens there's nothing you can do since they will jump out of the brush right into the road.

There was an official sheriff's truck at the repair shop that had terrible damage to the front end from hitting a deer. It's amazing how much damage that hitting a deer can cause!

My wife and I will be watching the Ags online from Kanab, Utah.

We've have an unexpected turn of events that is going to prevent us from being home in time for the SUU game though. We hit a deer yesterday morning before sunrise on our way to Bryce Canyon NP. A big doe jumped in front of us and I didn't even have time to hit the brakes at 55 mph. Our SUV suffered major front end damage and the radiator got shoved into the engine block. Luckily, we didn't crash..not so lucky for the poor deer though.

So we were on the side of the road somewhere between the small Mormon towns of Cannonville and Tropic with no cell reception. After about 2 hours a sheriff came by and, eventually, we got towed 2+ hours to St George, Utah, where the repair shop said it may take at least 2 weeks for repairs.

And now the kicker: there were no cars available to rent in the entire town of St George. So we had to get a cheap room for the night...one of those places that has a sign in the bathroom that says, "we charge for missing linens." Of course, we arrived in our dirty hiking clothes and our day packs looking like a couple of vagrants so we fit right in.

The only option for us to get a car was to take a shuttle to Vegas to rent a car and then drive 300 miles back to our rental house which is located in a remote canyon between Escalante and Boulder, Utah. We finally got back at 8 pm last night.

We leave this morning for Kanab and will be staying much longer than planned and will miss the SUU game...dang it! Oh well, nothing to do but roll with it and Zion NP is just down the road so we'll be hiking a lot in this incredibly area.

    Go Ags!!

Could Thomas have been banged up for the game?
  • Horseshoe 2017
I agree with everything you said in you post. I caught the last quarter online after a long day of hiking in the Horseshoe Canyon near Hanksville, Utah. The quality of the Pluto TV feed was excellent. That's a huge improvement for the league.

The "party" dance on the sideline by the Aggies was embarrassing. I know the kids were just having fun but that's not good sportsmanship and it isn't Aggie Pride in my book. It looked like something Sac State might do. Hawk needs to clean that up before it goes way over the top.

Or, maybe I'm just becoming an "old fogey"...
  • Vote for Namane Modise!
Modes lost by 102 votes to Ricky Neal of Northern Iowa. Final count: Neal 582 Modise 480.
  • Vote for Namane Modise!
He's still trailing by 98 votes. I think the big difference in the total number of votes is that, with the Doss voting, you could vote multiple times in a row but, with the voting for Modise, you can only vote once. The vote total doesn't change when I try to vote multiple times.
  • Week 8: UC Davis @ Northern Arizona
My experience is that it feels like alcohol hits you faster at altitude. At 7000 ft there's something like 20% less oxygen than at sea level so many people feel light headed even before having an alcoholic beverage.
  • Week 8: UC Davis @ Northern Arizona
My wife and I were at altitude for two weeks in the Santa Fe (7200 ft) and I felt crappy for 2 days. As you say, the onset of symptoms were delayed until a couple of days after arriving. Today, we were hiking in Mesa Verde National Park at 7-8000 feet and I still huffed and puffed a little on the steep stuff but I think that's my age showing...

  • Will the Fans Ever Really Come Back?
I've been hearing the Bossy Cow Cow since I arrived at UCD in 1972. I cringed then and still do when I hear it. I have nothing against tradition at all. I wish we still had the old steam engine blaring away whenever the Ags scored.

I don't think that the Bossy Cow Cow represents "who we are." To the contrary, I think it represents who we were many, many years ago. The modern university has grown and changed dramatically from being basically a agriculture school. UCD is now tremendously varied academically and incredibly more diverse racially and culturally and the Bossy Cow Cow does not represent who today's students are. I think most of them find it so corny that it's embarrassing.

    Just my 2 cents worth....

  • Will the Fans Ever Really Come Back?
Your friends have a great idea about ditching the phones during a meal. Our devices and social media can keep us more closely connected in some ways and, in other ways, they can get in the way of way of of interpersonal skills and public courtesy.

I think the most alarming problem, however, is that a millions of people now get their news from social media hearsay and then resend the "fake news" on down the global digital highway. It's becoming more and more difficult to know what the real truth is and that is truly scary.
  • Will the Fans Ever Really Come Back?
I think you hit the nailed it...
