MBB: San Diego (13-7, 7-1) @ the Aggies (12-7, 7-1) 2 pm Saturday 1/27 My wife and I just watched the replay. Wow...what a beat down by the Tritons! They outplayed the Aggies in every phase of the game...no contest whatsoever. I thought it would be a very tough game for the Aggies but I didn't think it would be a complete blowout. It's unfortunate that we had a game like this in front of the largest crowd of the season (2537).
San Diego is impressive. They appear to be a much more balanced team than the Aggies in that they have quite a few players who are offensively talented to the Aggies who depend primarily on Pepper and Johnson for the bulk of the scoring. The Aggie defense has been outstanding most of the time since conference play began but today it didn't bother the Tritons at all. They were dropping 3's, hitting mid-range jumpers, scoring on backdoor cuts, getting offensive boards and and scoring on put backs and tip-ins. It looked like their offense was just a whole lot better than our defense.
Although the Aggies had won 3 straight conference games, all of those games were struggles and now we just suffered our worse loss in 4 years. I hope we don't have a hangover going down to Santa Barbara. The Gauchos are capable of lighting it up when they are playing well. They will definitely play better than they did here in the first game. Right now, I don't see us winning in the Thunderdome.
