They did a little video piece on the 1998 Aggie National Championship Team. They mentioned a comment by Ray Harper, the Kentucky Wesleyan head coach, that I had never heard before. After the Ags beat the Panthers for the National Championship, Harper said, "Davis does not have the most talented players we played this year but the are the best team we have played this year." That's quite a compliment to Bob Williams and the 1998 team!

Bill Walton chimed in and said, "Imagine that, playing as a team can win you a championship."

You're right, Underwood rarely got any playing time, but when he did, he seemed very uncomfortable and unsure of himself. I'm sure they worked a lot with him and hoped he'd bet able to adjust to the speed and physicality of the D1 game but he never did really adapt. I'm not sure that he was going to develop enough to get significant minutes. It's extremely tough for big guys at the mid-major level.

Incredible courage and dedication from this young man. Football can be a cruel game to love at times. I wish him well and hope he heals up but at what point is enough, enough. You've only got one body for a lifetime and this is, after all, just a game and he has his whole life ahead of him.

Looking at the stats would make you wonder how we were even in the game but the 3 ball is a great equalizer. A lot of good mid-major teams rely on the 3 to be the difference maker. We were a team like that during the years we had players like Corey Hawkins, Ryan Sypkens, Josh Ritchart, Tyler Les and Brynton Lemar. When those players got it going they lit up the scoreboard.

We been lacking consistently good perimeter shooters of late though. Siler Schneider could get hot from deep at times but he's gone now. Not that the ability isn't there with Mooney and Gonzalez but they've both been so inconsistent and we haven't seen much of Rogers Printup at all this season...not sure what's up with him.

Song on her game winning shot:

"First I was looking to drive, but then that wasn't open and time was running out and I just shot it, hoping we'd get a rebound," Song said. "What people don't see is that in practice we go over these last-minute situations and I try and get in as much of those as possible and, tonight, it went in."

"When we went to overtime, we came back to the huddle with the mentality that we were going to win this game," Song said. "It was just a matter of playing loose and knocking down our shots. In our minds, we already knew that we were going to win. That's what I love about this team, the confidence, we were just ready to go."

    Comments from Coach Gross:

"I felt like we had the momentum and our team still felt fresh heading into the second overtime period and we just said, 'Hey, let's keep pushing the ball, let's keep the pressure on them, and let's keep attacking,' " Gross said.

"I'm really proud of our team. We played pretty poorly in the first and, give Sacramento State credit, they came out firing. To be able to stick together and keep the belief in each other I think was really big for us."

No doubt about that but they need to get out of their heads when they have a good point blank shot. Don't rush it and throw up a wild ball. You can almost see Stobbart tense up. They need to work with her in practice on getting bumped but still staying in control and not throwing up a rushed, wild shot. Same thing happens with Hall at times; she cuts hard to get the basket but then loses control on the shot and misses shots she knows she can make. You can see her frustration. I think it's more of a confidence thing with both of them.

We generally play pretty good defense but our offense is so inconsistent. It's fun to watch when some shots are actually falling!
  • MBB: Aggies (2-4) at Cal (4-2) 7 pm Tuesday 11/26
I hope this will be a confidence booster for the Ags. They were the aggressor in the second half and it paid off. The defense was solid and we were getting good looks on offense because of great ball movement. Manjon is going to be special as he keeps getting more experience. He has some tremendous moves and is lightening quick. Good to see Gonzo finally get dialed in.

No let up in the schedule as the Aggies head to Utah for another Pac12 opponent of Friday.

I thought the second half was the best basketball this team has played this year.
  • WBB: Sac State (1-3) at UCD (1-4) 6 pm Tuesday 11/26
I sure hope Jen has her team practice their layups this week. They must have missed 10 point blank shots from 2 feet. Nice moves to get to the basket and then miss the bunny 5 or 6 times is way too many.
  • WBB: Sac State (1-3) at UCD (1-4) 6 pm Tuesday 11/26
Gritty double OT win by the Aggies! They simply refused to lose this one and prevented the Hornets from sweeping the Aggies in basketball and football this year.
  • MBB: Aggies (2-4) at Cal (4-2) 7 pm Tuesday 11/26
The Ags have come back from 18 down to trail by two 48-46 with 9:30 to go.
  • WBB: Sac State (1-3) at UCD (1-4) 6 pm Tuesday 11/26
The Ags came out sleepwalking at the start of the game. Sac has clearly been the aggressor. I'm not sure what it is with this team so far this year in that they typically start slow and then have to try and climb out of a hole. You can tell that Jen was beside herself when her starters were getting beat easily on defense. This would be a 4 or 2 point game if the Ags could hit their bunny shots...how many shots from 2 feet have they missed? Our 3 point shooting is dreadful also.
  • WBB: Sac State (1-3) at UCD (1-4) 6 pm Tuesday 11/26
I think Jen should play Gibb much more. She a fairly solid defender and she is plays with aggressiveness whereas Stobbart is rushing her shots and playing timid. Stobbart has not played up to her potential this year.

I hope he gets a chance...can't show anybody anything if you can't get on the field...

Thomas will be eligible for a redshirt if he only played in 4 games total this season. The redshirt rule changed in 2018. Players can now play in up to 4 games one year and not have that year count as a one of their 4 years. You still have 5 years to play 4 but it's essentially 5 years in which you can now play 4 1/3.

A player can get a medical redshirt if an injury occurs in the first half of the season and the player can not have played in more than 3 games before the injury occurs. Montana was the 5th game of the season for us so, if he didn't play after that game, he would meet the criteria for a medical redshirt also. It would seem easier for him just to use a regular redshirt year rather than going through the process of applying for a medical redshirt though.

Here is an article about the redshirt rules: https://www.si.com/college/2018/06/13/ncaa-redshirt-rule-change-eligibility-reaction

He hasn't been playing lots of minutes though. I'm not sure he's 100%.
  • 2019 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament
I watched the game. The Aggies dominated the entire game and outshot Louisville 18-5 before a huge and enthusiastic crowd that wasn't at all happy with the referee on quite a few ocassions.

The Ags were clearly a much better team in every aspect of the game but one of the few Louisville shots snuck in. The Ags scored a final second goal in the first half but the referee wiped it off by saying that time had expired which was questionable. No reviews in soccer. This is a tough loss for the Ags to swallow.

Overturning the interception without a review is right up there with the horrible out of bounds call on Chris Carter some years ago in the Causeway. Why was it overturned and why wasn't it reviewed? We at least deserve an answer from the Big Sky?

It was a dagger that gave the Hornets momentum going into halftime down 17-10 instead of 17-3 with the Aggies carrying the momentum. The tv announcers looked at the replay and said "he had his foot down, that was an interception...Hawkins must be livid right now."

The play was initially ruled an interception and a change of possession and then, for some unknown reason, it was suddenly overturned on the field. The play was reviewable since it apparently involved the whether or not the Aggie defender was in bounds. Hawkins could have challenged the play if the Aggies still had a timeout. Anyone know if we had a timeout at that point?
