  • MBB: Cal Poly (5-15, 2-4) at UCD (8-14, 2-4) 5 pm Saturday, February 1st
Official attendance was 2263 tonight which is the most for a home game this year I'm sure.

Printup was solid...hit a 3 and plays tough defense. He hasn't seen a lot of playing time this season so his offensive game looks a bit rusty.

I wish him the very best and hope he continues to do well in school...always an Aggie...

Yeah, Manjon's dunk surprised everyone. He has an incredible vertical leap for a player his size. Mooney was great all game long. He really brought the energy tonight even though Les didn't start him...rebounding and critical 3's down the stretch. Nice to see Adebayo contribute on the offensive end too. He has something like a 7 foot wingspan. I thought this was one of Koehler's better games too. Nice win by the whole team.

That’s true. Attendance is down especially among the students.

Pretty good crowd for this year. Itybeen a very physical game and the officiating has been inconsistent.

Gonzalez is in street clothes. He went down with an ankle injury late in the Irvine game. I hope Joe can get his shot going.

Great game and a really good atmosphere. The Aggie women are building something special here.

Good ball game and a nice crowd. Hope they stay around for the men too.
  • The 1998 DII National Championship Team
I think Derrick Bang is still writing for the Enterprise. I recently read his review of 1917 which he described as a masterpiece. I agree with you that Derrick is a fantastic movie critic and he's been writing for the Enterprise as long as I can remember. He's so good that I have often wondered why he hasn't gone on to write for bigger publications. He used to have a game store in town many years ago if I remember correctly.

I agree that not mentioning Dante Ross was an oversight but I enjoyed the article overall. I thought the intentional, main focus of the article was about the memories of Bob Williams and Kevin Nosek and how they have stayed locally connected. Winning the National Championship without scholarships was such an amazing achievement that it's always nice to read about it again.

It will be great to see the team honored the double-header today. I hope a lot of the former players will be in attendance.

Williams has moved back to norther California since he retired and he lives in Lake of the Pines near Grass Valley. He and the team will be honored at the Cal Poly game on Saturday.
  • MBB: UC Irvine (12-9, 4-1) at UCD (8-13, 2-3) 7 pm Thursday, January 30th
Any insight on who the possible grad transfer is and where he might be coming from?
  • MBB: UC Irvine (12-9, 4-1) at UCD (8-13, 2-3) 7 pm Thursday, January 30th
Adenrele and Goode were, as you said, very good defenders inside and good rebounders but neither were an offensive threat. Printup is a tough defender too but he's only 6'4 and even Moneke was only 6'6 but he had incredible quickness and leaping ability. So size isn't everything when it comes to and interior presence but athletic size is a big plus.

I'll take an athletic, quick 6'6 player like Chima anyday over a static, slow 7 footer. This year Neufeld and Koehler are our only 2 big men at 6'11 and 6'7 respectively and neither are that quick or have great leaping ability. Irvine outscored us 40-12 in the paint last night. Collin Welp 6'9 is an outstanding player and Tommy Rutherford at 6'8 and 240 has been punishing us for 4 years. Les recruited Rutherford also.

Irvine has a history of good big men and the top Big West teams this year have a strong inside presence. Santa Barbara has Amadou Sow 6'9 235, Hawaii has 3 seven footers and Raimo who's a beast with an inside/outside game, and CSUN has Lamine Diane and, although he's only 6'7 and 205, he plays much bigger and is arguably the best player in the league.

We have been a guard dominated team during the Les era here and he's had success with that formula but our lack of an interior game has really been apparent last year and this year though. When the better defensive teams lock down on our guards, clog up the lane and contest our 3's, it spells trouble for us. We can't depend on Gonzalez to catch fire every night and Mooney is currently in a bit of a shooting slump. Manjon and Pepper have been stepping up too but our weaknesses in the paint on both ends of the floor is making things tough for us.

We have 2 players who are currently redshirting and one other commit. Wesley Harris is a 6'6 So from Phoenix and Aaron Murphy is a 6'6 Fr from Modesto. Both of them are redshirting this season. We also have signed Caleb McGill from Aurora, Colorado, and he is 6'7. Oliver Gerhke from Sweden has left the team and he was 6'7. So we have 3 forwards coming in but no really big power forwards or posts at this time. It seems that well over half of the offers Les gives out are to guards.
  • MBB: UC Irvine (12-9, 4-1) at UCD (8-13, 2-3) 7 pm Thursday, January 30th
We got beat by a much better basketball team tonight. We did not play our best, for sure, but we don't have the overall talent, especially the kind of talented big men, that Irvine has. I know Les feels the team is letting our opponents come into our house and get into a rhythm and take over the game. There is some truth to that but we don't match up well with teams that have talented big men. Chima was the last dynamic big man we've had that could really take over in the paint. Until Les recruits some talented big men we'll continue to lose more often than not to teams with talented posts and power forwards.
  • 2020 Recruiting List
Looks like Meynell had offers from San Jose State and San Diego as well.
  • WBB: CSUN (9-10, 4-1) at UCD (9-9, 4-1) 6 pm Wednesday, January 29th
Ags run off with it 61-39 while holding CSUN to 25% shooting. Emma Gibb came off the bench and played really well. Good for her!

Couple of historical notes: this was the Ags 28th straight, conference, home court win. Also, the 42 total points scored by the Aggies in their win over Poly last week was the lowest amount of points scored by an Aggie team in a win since 1977.
  • WBB: CSUN (9-10, 4-1) at UCD (9-9, 4-1) 6 pm Wednesday, January 29th
39-29 Aggies after 3. Great defense by the Ags gave them a little breathing room.
  • WBB: CSUN (9-10, 4-1) at UCD (9-9, 4-1) 6 pm Wednesday, January 29th
24-19 Ags at the half. Defensive battle by both teams...Ags shooting 24% and CSUN shooting 26%.
