Fuller was out during the warming up before the game but then came out in street clothes at the start of the game. Makes me think he's good to do things that have no risk of contact.

    From the Enterprise:

“I really appreciated our fight,” Les said. “We came out flat to start the second half and had every reason to just lie down and give in, but that’s when we really started to fight and it gave us a chance to win. Santa Barbara made some tough shots and we had some good looks that didn’t fall, but I really liked our intensity in the second half.”

The Aggies were without the services of Caleb Fuller, who was injured in last Saturday’s win over Cal State Bakersfield, but will presumably be back before the end of the season.

“We had to make adjustments,” Les added, “but our bench gave us some great minutes.”

SB has big men who very athletic as well as having size and that's always going to be a tough matchup for us inside. They killed us on the offensive boards. With their kind of size and athleticism, they were able to go over the top of our bigs on several occasions for a tip in or another offensive board even when we were in good position for the rebound.

Pure specualtion on my part but I wonder if Caleb has some loose teeth from that hit to the mouth that he took in the Bake game? That's a slow healing process if that's the case. Do they even make a full face guard that would help protect his mouth?

The SB head coach and one of his assistants have very fiery tempers. They both exploded quite a few times and were real close to getting technicals. On the other hand, Les is still intense but his sideline behavior has really mellowed over the years.

The Ags battled short handed with Fuller and Debrhul out and, as always, the Ags played very hard. Pepper had 21 and Manjon had 19 but neither shot the ball very well overall. They were a combined 16 of 40 and Pepper was only 4-13 from 3 and he usually hits those at a higher percentage.

Anigwe just can't seem to stay out of early foul trouble. I thought Murphy did a nice job of filling in for Anigwe particularly. We just don't have the interior size to match up well with the Gauchos.

A couple of huge plays hurt the Ags in overtime. The no call on the charge that Pepper took when he went flying to the floor and then Mitchell hit a 3. Also, poor Ade missed a wide open bunny right at the rim. Those hurt.

Mitchell was lights out scoring 27 of his 31 points in the second half. We simply couldn't stop him.

Great defense by the Ags. Held SB to 31%. Tough matchups for us with their size though.

Fuller and DeDruhl are in street cloths. That makes us thin especially the loss of Fuller.
  • Is This the Final Season for Fuller, Shaw and Ba?
Fuller has made tremendous progress during his time here so he'll be a key loss. I've always felt that Ba and Shaw were quite talented but their playing time was very limited each season.

She was the best we ever heard at a basketball game and better than many we've heard on many big time, televised games. They should bring her back again!

It was really strange. They needed to foul quickly and they were just letting time run off the clock with no defensive pressure. I turned to my wife and said, "What the hell are they doing, they have to foul or the games over."

In the post-game, radio interview, Manjon said he thinks they thought the score was tied. I think their coach was screaming at them to foul and one of the players finally saw him and fouled Pepper. It certainly was a big mistake letting all those seconds tick off.

Les has a great eye for recruiting undervalued players and it's a pleasure to see them develop over the years. We're a young team also so the future is bright.

I'm surprised that UCSB has struggled as much as they have this year. They get some highly rated recruits and transfers each year so they aren't short on talent.

Sitting behind Tyler Les is entertaining; he’s not afraid to voice his displeasure with the referees!DrMike

    Haha...neither am I! :rage:

I think fuller hit his head. He looked a little dazed when they walked him back to locker roomDrMike

Les commented post-game that Fuller got hit in the mouth and there was a lot of blood. He may have hit his head also because, like you said, he looked dazed as they led him to the locker room. They were also checking inside his mouth before they took him to the locker room.

Les also said he asked Fuller if there was anything dirty on the play and Fuller said, "no."

This was a hard fought win for the Aggies and they really needed a win since 8 of their last 16 games have been cancelled. It's hard to be in great form and peaking when you can't play games without long layoffs every other week. Manjon said that the team couldn't even practice in the gym at times and had to practice outdoors.

There were 48 fouls called: 22 on the Ags and 26 on the Runners with the Ags going 29 of 35 from the line and Bake going 20 of 23. I thought the officiating was very uneven. They let the game get very physical in the first half and then started calling touch fouls in the second so it was a ragged game without either team really being able to get into an offensive rhythm.

I like the way the Ags hung tight though and I thought they played pretty good defense and some stops when they really counted. Fuller took a violent hit to the mouth and had to leave the game. I hope he'll be good to go next week. He's made a lot of progress this year. Good to see Borra and Murphy getting playing time when Anigwe got in early foul trouble.

I like the heart that this team has. Hopefully, they will get to actually play their final 4 games!

Shawn Smith is a beast. 20 points already. We’re having trouble with his physical play. The officials are really letting him bang like a bull inside and he’s drawing a lot of fouls. Hard to defend him when they are letting him be so physical.
  • WBB: Aggies (12-9, 6-5) at CSU Bakersfield (2-16, 1-8) 1 pm Saturday 2/19
Ags lose 84-75. Hall had 29 points and 13 rebounds and Turner dropped in 18.

This team is hard to figure. Just when it looked like they were finding their stride and after blowing out Poly by 30 points on Thursday, they turn around and get solidly beaten by the worst team in the conference and gave up 84 points in doing so. They got a total of 2 points from the bench for the entire game also.

Sage had 4 more blocks...she's a blocking machine. 19 TO's are the poor stat from this game but, when you shoot 57% overall and 48% from downtown, it doesn't really matter. It's not a good trend though...
