Ags fall 11-7. Pacific moves onto the semi-finals on Saturday.
  • Men's water polo defeats No. 3 UOP.
The Ags will be without their senior attacker, Connor Norton, who had a recent medical emergency. Live stream on the PAC12 Network at 3 p.m. Thursday.

“He did not have a pulse when we got him out of the pool and we had to do CPR right there,” Leyson explained.

“All of his signs and tests are now positive and he’s making a full recovery, but he won’t be able to play. He was one of our key seniors and we’ll miss him, but we’re just glad he’s okay.”

    Coach Leyson comments:

Aggie head coach Dan Leyson, now in his eighth highly successful season guiding Aggie fortunes, refuses to look past UOP, a team UCD beat, 12-11, on a sudden death goal by Connor Norton less than a month ago.

“They’re hard to stop,” said Leyson of the Tigers, who enter the tournament with a 21-6 overall record.

“They have a really, really strong starting seven, good at every position and able to score a lot of goals quickly. They can play with anybody in the country.”

Add to that the feeling among the UOP coaching staff that there were several controversial calls that went UCD’s way in their first meeting.

“I don’t agree with them (UOP) about the calls, but I know it left a bitter feeling for them, so they’ll be highly motivated,” Leyson added.

As if playing for the national championship is not motivation enough.

Milwaukee beat SEMO tonight 84-68 to 3-0 in their own Classic.

I didn't see it at first also but then I saw in on the replay. It was just bad luck. The ball bounces that way sometimes. Fortunate for Milwaukee and unfortunate for us.

Unfortunately, for one error in judgment they should have been 3 - 0 and won the tournament.Lizaggie

I think you may be referring to Anigwe trying to throw throw the ball into the backcourt in the final 2 seconds after he grabbed the rebound which, unfortunately, went right to a Milwaukee player who drained a 3 at the buzzer. Anigwe was falling down with the rebound and he needed to either try throw the ball into the backcourt or fall to the floor with the ball and be called for a travel which would have given Milwaukee another final chance. So it wasn't an "error in judgement;" it was just bad luck.

I was freaking out and I didn't have any money riding on it!

I think the poor FT shooting has gotten into their heads now. Their body language shows their exasperation after each additional miss. It's taken on a kind of "FT mass hysteria" now where practically no one can make a FT. Anigwe hit the back of the iron and tried to adjust on the second shot and threw up an airball. That's just mental. I think Les is going to have them shooting tons FT's in practice in the next few days.

This one was very "stressful" so you did yourself well to not watch it. Watching a 29 point lead slowly dissolve into a 2 point deficit over 16 minutes was not fun at all. It was actually kind of surreal. I kept telling myself that we would stop the bleeding when the lead got cut in half...then under 10...and then under 5...it just kept going!

As I watching the first half I was telling myself the same thing: "this is a pretty good basketball team." The second half made me wonder if we're just going to be highly inconsistent: very good one game or one half and not very good the next time out.

What did he have to say about scoring one FG in the final 16 minutes of regulation while blowing a 29 point lead?

I wasn't able to watch the game live so I just finished watching the replay. Wow...in the first half, the Aggie defense was exceptional and the offense was crisp with good ball movement. We shot 57% overall including 4-7 from 3 and lead 43-21 going into the break.

We came out and built the lead to 29 with 16 minutes to go leading 52-23. In the final 16 minutes we managed to blow the 29 point lead by getting out scored 43 -14. Boston took the lead by 2 with 24 seconds to go. We were lucky we didn't lose the game in regulation but managed to get to overtime.

We made one FG in the final 16 minutes while shooting 17% overall and 0-9 from 3. To make it even worse we were clunking FT's left and right. It was perhaps as poor a half of basketball that I've ever seen from an Aggie team in a long time and it was really hard to watch.

Johnson and Beasley saved the Ags from an embarrassing loss. Pepper couldn't get anything going. He ended up with 5 points on 1-12 shooting including only 1-8 from 3 and had 5 TO's. Even his layups were rolling of the rim.

I'm not sure what we can take away from this win. Losing a 29 point lead in the final 16 minutes does not bode well for us. Was it just a fluke? I sure hope so. That was nearly one of the worst loses in Aggie history.
