  • 2023 Recruits?
From what I can find, it looks like we offered Robeson out of high school. He chose Cal over Stanford, Cincinnati, Nebraska, University of Illinois-Chicago, Rice, Loyola Marymount, Santa Barbara, CSUN, Poly, San Diego, and Montana. So it appears that he's one of those "diamonds-in-the-rough" that Les loves to get and give them a chance to prove themselves.
  • WBB: Aggies Playing Pro Abroad
I watched the game and Morgan played well. She was a starter again. She had one of her beautiful, patented spin moves for a bucket. Nobody could stop those spin moves when she was an Aggie and it looks like is still works as a pro.

This game is versus Phoenix with the return of Brittney Griner to her home court. What an experience this will be for Morgan!

Thanks for the heads-up, Mike, I'll try to watch some of that game or record it to watch later.

She started the game. Pretty fair stat line: 3-7 from the field, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks and 4 fouls. The only negative stat was a -10 +/- (points differential while the player is on the floor) which is a rather nebulous stat but the pros use it. It is considered a measure of how the player impacts the team when they are in the game. Regardless, the Sky HC seems to think Morgan is ready for the WNBA game.
  • 2024 Football Recruiting
I saw those FBS offers that 247 Sports shows that he has from Memphis, Arizona, Florida Atlantic, Middle Tennessee State, and San Jose State but those offers were made in 2021 and 2022 and he doesn't show any of those on his twitter page. So I wondered if those offers are still active or not? He's only showing the current 2023 offers now.

Damon Wrighster QB 6'3 175 from Bishop Alemany HS in Los Angeles. His twitter shows that he currently has offers from Fordham, Liberty, Yale, Grambling State, Old Dominion and UC Davis. He also has had visits to Northwestern, Oregon, Utah and Arizona.

  • Evaluating the athletic department
Yes, we'd have to join the WCC as a full fledged member and we'd be competing in all the other sports that the WCC sponsors. St Mary's and Gonzaga would be tough in basketball for sure but they would be games that would generate a lot of excitement for the team and for Aggie fans as well. We'd most definitely have a big crowd for our home games with them too.
  • Evaluating the athletic department
The 2 games with Pacific last year were a real surprise. I hope it continues as well.
  • Evaluating the athletic department
That's exactly why the WCC teams are hesitant to schedule us. The only way it will ever change is if we become more of a mid-major power program with a consistently high RPI or if we leave the BW and join the WCC someday. Unfortunately, for us Aggie fans, we will not see games with Pacific, St Mary's, Santa Clara and USF very often as it is. I would like us play Nevada, Cal, Stanford and San Jose on a more regular basis as well.
  • Evaluating the athletic department
The opportunity for a single game to be played in the Golden 1 Center ended the annual, home and home games against Sac. The coaches from both schools liked the idea of the players getting to have the experience of playing in an arena like the Golden 1 Center. Les also said that Sac did not particularly like playing the Aggies twice a year. They preferred a single, annual game.

Les would really like to schedule the D1 teams in northern California often as possible but the other schools are not as interested in scheduling the Aggies on a regular basis.
  • Evaluating the athletic department
I spoke with Coach Les a few years ago and asked him why don't we play Pacific, Santa Clara, St Mary's and USF all that often. He said he tries to schedule them each year but they won't play us very often. He said that Gonzaga puts a lot of pressure on the other WCC teams to schedule tough opponents in their pre-conference games so that they can hopefully keep their RPI's high and a loss to the Aggies can hurt their RPI more than a win over the Ags can help their RPI.

I like the BW conference and I think it is a good fit for all our sports other than football, of course, but, as Dunning points out in his opinion piece, being in the WCC would certainly allow us to play more schools that are located close to us..

HOOP DREAMS … While the Big West is an excellent conference that provides a wide variety of sports for its 11 member institutions, if I had my way I’d love to see Aggie basketball compete in the West Coast Conference, mainly because a number of WCC schools are a short drive from Davis, which would make attending away games much easier. As it is, there are virtually no Aggie fans when UCD plays a Big West road game.
The closest Big West school to UC Davis is Cal Poly, 235 miles away in San Luis Obispo. The next closest is Cal State Bakersfield, a nifty 266 miles down U.S. 99 to the bottom of the San Joaquin Valley. After that, it’s UC Santa Barbara, 308 miles away in Goleta.

What a wonderful interview with Morgan. She's not only a an outstanding athlete but she's also bright, articulate and humble with an a wonderful personality to boot. Being in the WNBA has been a dream of hers and I sure hope she makes the Chicago Sky roster.

Does anyone know if we have any more scholarships to give?

Sevilla looks like a perfect fit for the Aggies and Jim Les: 6'1 PG, 21.9 points per game, 57% overall shooting including 47% from 3, plus 91% from the line. He was also named the East Bay Athletic League MVP and he has a 4.5 GPA so he can handle the academics too. His highlight videos show that he is a good defender, drives the ball to the basket very well and can still finish while taking a hit. He has a very nice jumper from all ranges too.

He appears to have been largely overlooked by D1 programs and we all know how good Les is at finding underrated players, especially PG's, who fail to catch the attention of D1 programs and end up being outstanding players at Davis like TJ Shorts and Ezra Manjon. I think Sevilla has the potential to grow into another great PG here as well.

  • Serial Killer on the loose in Davis?
This whole tragedy is very sad for everyone involved. It appears that the suspect had a promising future at one point in his life. He was featured in the Oakland Health Pathways organization:

Known as the Oakland Health Pathways Partnership, the aim of the program is to give students hands-on job training in a growing field and help diversify the health care workforce, where Blacks and Latinos are significantly underrepresented.

In 2019-20, more than 1,500 students in seven Oakland Unified high schools, including a continuation school and a school for recent immigrants, were enrolled in the health career pathway.

In addition to taking college preparatory science classes, they did internships at local health facilities such as Highland Hospital, a regional trauma center and 236-bed teaching hospital that’s run by the county.

From his featured page with the program:

My grandmother used to take care of me when I was young, and now I take care of her. I’m the oldest in my family. My parents work, so I take care of my younger brother and sister, take them to school. I help with the cooking and cleaning. The MIMS internship taught me how to fix my brother’s cut and tell my grandmother good foods for her to eat.

As a doctor, I want to give back to the community. I love sports and want to open my own sports medicine clinic, provide free physicals, and get other doctors to come and help too.

Do you have any understanding as to why all of our academic exceptions are limited to football only and how many do we have available each year?
