Cal might be in a good position to do better in the ACC when it comes to football, though,

I was just trying to be funny.

Maybe he wanted to play against ACC teams?

Has anyone who went to Australia to play ever used it as a stepping stone to the NBA? I'm not talking about Australians like Patty Mills or Andrew Bogut, who went to college here then made the NBA, but someone like Eli.

Something about being an Aggie must create loyalty. The campus? The coach? The quality of education? All of the above?

The Honolulu paper has printed several articles about Coach Monson. Not sure why aside from his having been a Big West coach. I suspect some writers out here are fond of him from past contacts. So I am surprised that there was no mention of this in the Honolulu paper. (Possibly I missed it if it was a small item.)

Carter was probably not happy with his playing time, only 22 minutes for all of last season. Hope he flourishes wherever he goes. He made 100% of his 3 point attempts for the Ags.

I've believed that for going on 25 years now.

Yes, I am pretty sure all accredited colleges require a minimum number of credits, but there are differences, especially if a student is completing a senior year. I think 30 semester credits is the more common minimum, which can be done in one year.

I wonder if TY looked around and decided that next year will be a rebuild that he didn't want to be part of?

My bad. Don't mean to dismiss women's basketball. It's just that I've been following the men for 65 years now.

This discussion hasn't gotten much action, but I can't let today end without noting that we've seen the last NCAA tournament game to be played by a PAC-12 team as Arizona lost. I know that Oregon State and Washington State will still carry the name, but whatever they do next year, those schools will not represent the PAC-12.

In my opinion as someone whose career was spent in higher education, the disadvantage of transfer is disruption in one's education. For those select few who can get a career in pro basketball, this is not an issue. For those who move from a very good school (e.g. UC Davis) with a good major fit for them to a school at a lower academic level and lacking a good fit for their major, it could mean losing a lot of potential for their future, and not just in terms of dollars. The reverse is also true. Anyone transferring into a UC school, is likely to gain a better education as well, depending on the school from which they transfer.

Quoting from myself: "I've always though that the NCAA basketball tournament should be like football: with two levels of Division 1. In basketball the mid-major teams have no chance to win the title and very rarely even make it to the final four. Even Steph Curry's Davidson team only got to the elite eight. It's exciting to root for them when they do, but it would be more exciting for them to have a chance at a national championship." As BlueGoldAg wrote, we'll be seeing fewer small programs get past the second round in the future. Eventually, someone will smell the flowers and follow the FBS/FCS model.

No Cinderellas at this year's ball.
  • Following the Big West
Well, Big West teams were mostly underdogs, with one exception. The UCSD loss was particularly disappointing. I wonder what happened there? The Tritons hit 52.6% of three 3s, out-rebounded and out-assisted Chicago State and still lost. Near as I can tell, it was at the foul line, where San Diego got out-scored 15-9, but still. Yeah, a tough post-season all the way around. I like to think it would have been different if the Aggies had gotten in somewhere.

Kansas loses to Gonzaga, so another multiple championship school goes down in '24. 4 down 3 to go.

It's a sad fact that the Power 6 conferences, as currently constituted, have dominated the championships for the last 55+ years. The only school not being in one of those conferences in that time was UNLV in 1990. Within those, only 7 teams have won over half of all 84 titles ever won andI think we can all name them. That being the case, I tend to root against those 7 in particular, so I'm glad that Kentucky fell. UCLA and Indiana are not in the tournament this year, so that makes 3 down, 4 to go.
  • Following the Big West
I just finished watching my dvr of the game and was surprised by how poorly the Beach played. Not only were they undisciplined on defense, but on offense as well, with very poor shot selection. They also shot poorly and had a lot of trouble inside, where Arizona blocked (8) or altered a lot of shots. When take bad shots, miss good shots and can't get inside shots, you aren't going to have a very good field goal percentage. I was surprised that they hit as high as 33%. They started well, aside from allowing the Wildcats to hit a lot of uncontested 3s, because Monson had them in s a 3-2 zone to prevent UA from going inside. So we have another one and done in the NCAAs for the Big West.
