Aside from QB, who were the key JC recruits last year? Cloud and who else? Cloud is coming back but plays one of the positions we’re hoping to upgrade. JC is good for adding depth where you are thin, but rarely are going to be stars and as soon as they get acclimated they graduate.
  • Doss to NFL or not?
I don’t think he will transfer and it would not be wise to transfer. New system might not feature him, he might have a very mediocre year. Why chance that when he’s set for success here. Scouts will be watching either way. They found Jerry Rice at Mississippi Valley State, What is the upside of transferring?
  • Doss to NFL or not?
Is he a senior or did he already graduate?
......Oh I see he’s mentioned in the Bee as graduating this May.
  • Toler back to Cal
I think they are a little defensive about the relationship due to past controversy when Cody was a QB at Colorado playing for his dad.
I’m sure he’s qualified, but they’re excessively long winded about it in his bio. He’s a young coach who played major college football with a lot of success, in his dads system. That’s a plus. He is intimately familiar with Hawkins the elders coaching philosophy and X and Os. Hopefully he can teach inspire and recruit.
  • Nice article on Ron Gould
One of the examples of “Gould as great recruiter is based largely on players that didn’t stick around”.
  • Nice article on Ron Gould
Tehran is last years recruit, so perhaps Gould had something to do with it but Gould was gone two months before NLI day.
    Tehran is quite an athlete.
  • Nice article on Ron Gould
Gould as great recruiter is based largely on players that didn’t stick around. If he could recruit any position you would think it would be running backs and who did he leave us with? Justin Williams and Mitchell Layton. I like what Justin gave us but he wasn’t a talent beyond what we usually have had.

If you look at our redshirt list there are some apparent prospects so I can believe we’ll get some help there. A big defensive lineman who threw discus and shot is one. Other smaller DLs as well maybe some pass rushers among them. Earnest Sayles IIIs little brother who apparently started a game as a freshman linebacker but redshirted 2017 is another, actually a number of linebackers. Just what I see on the web site but quite a number of redshirts with good lookin bios.

I learned in econ 1A that wants are insatiable. But what is left on the table and in our wallet?

What’s your expectation of how many more signees will be added in February? Is what we see what we got or are more to come?

and a middle linebacker, etc. Some of these positions are going to have to be filled by a few of those 30 guys from last year since there are a finite number of scholarships. If you sign 30 guys they have to each be worth the scholarship or partial. Let’s hope they are. Next year depends more on those guys than this years class, half of whom will probably redshirt.

So we seem to be at 12 guys now? Hard to generalize on small sample but perhaps they are focusing on speed. Even the linemen are not big plodders. Probably will pick up a few more on the regular NLI day, but not a lot more. Could use a RB, among other positions. Interesting that the ball skills of several of the DBs was noted on team site.

At least one of them is a peer institution with UCD
  • 2018 Recruiting List
Just curious on the long term effect of signing 30 guys in a class. Seems like that would limit later class’ size. I think we are more attractive this year but have fewer slots. But that’s just a supposition
  • 2018 Recruiting List
This is what confuses me: did the thirty guys in last years signing class include walk-ons ?
  • 2018 Recruiting List
Do you mean guys from signing day or walk-ons after signing day?
  • 2018 Recruiting List
Were PWO part of the 30? Usually walk-ons not part of signing day announcements. Maybe partials
Interesting no running backs on horizon. That spot is up for grabs.
  • 2018 Recruiting List
After getting these 10 signees how many spots do you think we have left?
A lot of speed in this group. That will help on special teams kick coverage for sure.
  • 2018 Recruiting List
Whether the new guys can turn the defense around will be an open question for about two years. They won’t do it by themselves but with other classes including guys on team now. It looks like we are going after speed and athletes on D. We’ve had safeties turn into good linebackers on multiple occasions, the DBs all have some height.
