  • Dan Hawkins joins Cody's staff at Idaho State
Cody Hawkins didn’t quickly become OC here. He became a receiver coach after Tolver the receiver coach went to Cal. Cody coached wide receivers two seasons before becoming QB coach and OC, when Plough vacated the position. Cody had been a FBS QB and an OC at a community college with an 11-0 record.
Compare Cody Hawkin’s credentials when he became OC here with either Mike Cody’s credentials last year, or our current OCs credentials and Cody Hawkins’ are the best.
  • Dan Hawkins joins Cody's staff at Idaho State

Cody was well qualified for both those roles. He was a highly regarded high school recruit at Colorado. He was clearly overqualified for his first job under Hawkins here, which was offensive quality control.
  • 2024 Week 1: UC Davis @ UC Berkeley

Tompkins has good hands, he is elusive, hard to tackle and he is good at knowing where to run as a ball carrier..
Too many very short passes were completed to Trent for little or no gain. Plays which only had a chance if Trent worked his magic, but he wasn’t getting the ball in enough space to do something with it.

Hasting’s year in 2022 was better than Maier’s last year, 2019.
Comparable yards per game, better rating, fewer interceptions and better yards per attempt.
I hope the coaches can correct whatever caused the drop off in 2023.
  • 2024 Week 1: UC Davis @ UC Berkeley
I think we have a good group of receivers, particularly if you include the tight end and running backs. But the new wide receiver coach may very well change the depth chart position of some of the wideouts.
  • 2024 Week 1: UC Davis @ UC Berkeley

When Plough was Offensive Coordinator at NAU and his most recent stint at Davis he had QBs that when on to be play professionally. What will he do if he doesn’t have that level of QB? If he does and it is someone who hasn’t played will he play a true or redshirt freshmen?
In 2022 Davis had scored 43+ points six times , and three games of 56 or more with Hastings at QB. Why the drop off in 2023? Perhaps losing Cody Hawkins as QB coach and offensive coordinator contributed. Can Plough restore that scoring?

There is competition for those guys too. Good incoming class also, including a transfer FCS starter and a freshman who had four FBS offers.

With the exception of one guy who weight 330+ Sac’s O-line is comparable in size to Davis’, a few pounds either way.
Here are some Davis returning offensive linemen with the height and.weight, just guys that started at least a game for us. Our offense had some good stats last year, for sacs allowed, and yards per carry..
    LT Simonson 6’6” 295
    LG Souriolle 6’3” 295
    C Povey 6’3” 284
    RG Main 6’4” 270
    RT. Nava, 6’4” 295,

Davis has to hope the relatively high turnover at Cal results in some missed assignments.
Tulsa had had a good season the prior year, but some of their DBs had transferred, some starters were suspended due to an altercation in their bowl game the prior year, and they had incoming transfers who seemed to be of the same quality, but were new playing in the system and with each other.
The Tulsa coach said Davis showed them some “looks that they hadn’t seen”. Davis out played Tulsa in the 4th quarter and put the game away with a sustained drive.
The formula for success is to have some new wrinkles, be better prepared for an opening game, better conditioned and have some luck.
  • 2025 Football Recruiting

Hasting is here for his sixth year, Harper his fifth, and Harper has had almost no playing time.
Ingrassia is a walk-on, and I’m guessing not on scholarship. Rasor has been here one season, and Wrighster and Pinnick are incoming freshmen.
Numerically heavy due to COVID extra year but functionally light, in that there is no experienced backup. That reflects no QB scholarship recruits from 2021 & 2022

In case anyone is interested David Collins, Director of Sports Communications indicated by email that the issue I brought to his attention of Eli Simonson not being credited with playing despite has been passed along to the NCAA, and is expected to be corrected soon.
He says the NCAA manages the stats.

Rex Connors named seventh best returning safety in one Hero Sports list.

Rex only played in seven games last year, so his stats dropped off, or he would likely be higher.

With 6 three star QBs, they will have the raw material to develop some good QBs. They’ll have three of them on this Fall’s team. I guess it will be a team effort coaching these guys.
How did Rasor, who wears, #2 look in the Spring?. I’m encouraged that #2 was the second QB to play, so perhaps second on the depth chart.
  • 2025 Football Recruiting
I see we only had one QB recruit in the three years prior to these two. I believe David Rasor was the only QB not a walk on in those recruiting classes and they have had him for only one season.

Treynor’s father Cameron played in the NFL, mom was a two sport player at University of Washington and a strength and conditioning coach. Brother is an redshirt freshman offensive lineman with U. of Washington.
That makes two 3 star QB commits for 2025 with fathers who played in NFL.

    In 2018 yes.
In 2010 Mike Moroski was the offensive coordinator, but I think Plough was involved with play calling.
Correction: Plough was the pass game coordinator in 2010, but not calling plays until 2011.
  • Other Big Sky Games: 2024 Thread
Two winnable games for the FCS team. I know that economics drives the choice of opponents, and its a good thing that we seem to be past scheduling two FBS games, but ideally our one FBS game would be against lower tier FBS teams, like these two.

Interesting that JT O’Sullivan, Khark Jones Scott Barry and Bob Biggs were coaching at the Davis QB camp.

Not yet. It would be easy enough to just move Rocevic’s stats to Simonson, but the source error is in all the game box scores, the team stats, and the Big Sky Stats, which will never be corrected.
They owe the kid some recognition. It could be like they did with Shamburger, recognize him on Twitter, and give him a scholarship if he doesn’t have one. It is actually a good story to promote, someone moving 1500 miles for a chance to play and then starting. Who knows, maybe someone else from Nebraska might take I-80 west.

Dr. Mike it is automated but they have poor data entry, or don’t use the official roster to match names and numbers.

They have Jordan Fisher and Izaiah Souriolle both listed as playing in five games, Fisher’s alleged fifth game had no carries. I don’t think they would burn those two’s redshirt status in a game against Northern Arizona and then not play them again.

The error where Eli Simonson, the transfer from Nebraska gets no credit for playing despite starting every game is because the stat keepers use an erroneous roster to match names to numbers, they have #70 assigned to Luke Roncevic, Luke has a different number.
It is beyond belief that they could go a whole season crediting a defensive lineman who likely didn’t even travel as starting every game as an offensive lineman, and then awarding the guy who didn’t play an All Big Sky Academic award that has a qualification that the recipient played in half the teams games. I exchanged emails with Dr. Collins who is listed as director of athletics communication for FB on the issue of Eli Simonson’s name not being associated with #70 in the box scores stats or players bio statistics. That was a month ago. They could troubleshoot this issue with a simple question for the offensive line coach.
