  • Week 5: #9 Eastern Washington @ #11 UC Davis
I love the type of review where statements are made without supporting argument similar to “ The Eagles defense could play a huge role and end this game early if they can control the line of scrimmage against UC Davis.”
If ifs and buts were candy and nuts

And perhaps another freshman on offense deserved mention, CJ Hutton made the first and biggest play on the game winning drive. He’s another freshman who should get the ball.

Now they’re missing more practice. I assume they’re not practicing again until summer.

But why did it take them a year and a half? Contrast that to our 2017 transition where we recruited a new QB as the first order of business. This limited season would have been a good time to get players oriented to the new system, and they’ve missed that opportunity.
I don’t doubt they’ll get the team righted because they have a proven coaching staff, but how long will it take?

I think this stuff happens fairly often, just not with starting quarterbacks. The new coaching staff not getting any style points to offset their poor performance on the field. If they weren’t proven coaches one would think the wheels were coming off the bus.

Eastern isn’t as big on the defensive line as they were last time we played, I think we win the battle between our offensive line and their defensive line, if we run right at them. Pretty good pass rush.
Their linebackers aren’t big either. Having Ojoh out will likely help.
Their offensive line looks pretty good, that will be a battle.

Poly had a very mobile QB until the game got out of hand and they took him out.

That too, I think they’re doing excellent, Of course opinions may vary,

Teams that haven’t played this spring will be at a disadvantage this fall. There are two recruiting classes of freshmen that can get evaluated, free game practice without burning eligibility. Next fall there will be an additional class of recruits. Passing up game experience is a lost opportunity. If wear and tear are factors that outweigh the gain in experience that can be evaluated on a case by case basis and those players can sit. In the fall the additional depth we develop this spring will lessen the load

Everyone knew the calendar beforehand, so it should have been already factored in how many players would leave spring quarter, and in any case it’s just a handful. The logical thing would to have players close to max units skip last fall quarter when most everything was locked down anyway.
  • Week 5: #9 Eastern Washington @ #11 UC Davis
Then no sense quitting after this weekend, If it’s an issue, and they want to play in the fall, they should take the quarter off starting now.

I So if a student doesn’t enroll in spring classes can they play the rest of this season, including playoffs?
  • Week 5: #9 Eastern Washington @ #11 UC Davis
Hasn’t spring quarter started? If they play this weekend wouldn’t that be the same as next month?
All this unit concern applies primarily or exclusively to fifth year seniors. Did we have any that skipped this spring season altogether? Were any players faced with the choice of spring or fall, and some chose fall?
  • Week 5: #9 Eastern Washington @ #11 UC Davis
Back in the day there was also a maximum number of units a student can have without graduating. Might be a factor for fifth year seniors.
I wonder if we have any players who are sitting out the spring due to these types of issues.

We just played a team with a 6’3” 225 wide reciever who broke big sky conference hurdle records, and runs a 10.51 100, and has good hands and limited him to four catches, so whatever we did to contain Connor Tanner we should do again this week.

Someone pointed out ro me where to find the game on Pluto on a TV. I use Roku. It’s in the live sports section up in the 1000s. Scroll down enough and you’ll see it.
  • Week 4: Idaho state at UC Davis
A new wrinkle the final possession was having both Tompkins and Rodrigues in the backfield. They had that for several plays, first a run by Tompkins to the right and then the pass to the left by Rodrigues to Crawford that brought the ball down to the six. Barry commented on the play that he was surprised ISU didn’t have another corner opposite our triple set to the left. I bet they were leery of Tompkins getting the snap, or were just confused.

How often have we been able to take the approach that when the game is on the line we’re going to run the ball? Maybe we can’t do that against everyone but we did that against Idaho and Idaho State,in the fourth quarter.
Shows a lot of confidence in the offensive line.
We aren’t surprising anyone and they didn’t stop us.
I think the play calling will get more aggressive as they gain more confidence in the QBs.
  • Week 4: Idaho state at UC Davis
That could be said of each of our top four QBs.

Rather than trying to recruit the next best 6’4” QBs after all the big schools have picked them over I think our recruiters just get the guy that can play.

And I thought we wouldn’t see Larison with a long touchdown again.
