  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
The main advantage of the wildcat is that there are no spectators, like the QB usually is on a running play. So it’s a way to get more blockers than defenders at the point of attack.
Didn’t work so well with CJ but Biggs went with it to begin with with April because we had no short yardage run capability, because our line wasn’t physical.

    It helps to have blockers
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
Hastings surprised them and the receivers really made tough catches.
But it’s a little incongruous to here from a team that’s expecting their own backup QB to perform

The article is worth reading just for the quarterback thinking Rogers was blitzing. We only rushed four.
    I bet he’s hurting today,
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
The Weber QB thinks his hurry by Bryce Rodger was a blitz. Maybe a blitzkrieg. Rodgers wasn’t left unattended due to a blitz, he was hand fighting and got by the offensive lineman with a move. Came like a torpedo trailing an offensive linemen behind him in his wake
And did you know CJ Hutton fell down of his own accord?
And that on the roughing the passer, the defensive end “just came down in the vicinity” of Rodrigues. Its ok for a sportswriter to present his opinion, but to deny that there was any basis for the calls whatsoever is a little much Rodriguez was off balance from throwing off his back foot and got pushed by an extended arm intentionally. Not grievous but there was a basis for the call.

You can see on the video above that we only rushed four, Rodgers just beat his blocker in about 2 seconds

Me too. This season would have been a huge disappointment to me regardless of the rest of the games if we lost to both Weber and eastern again.

Weber, San Diego, Tulsa will improve their records. Tulsa is projected to win five more games. Weber is projected to win five or six more games, San Diego projected to win six more games. The aggregate records of our opponents look bad now but will be more respectable by end of season.Weber is projected to lose to only Eastern and is an even pick against Montana State. I can imagine them beating either.

Wonder how Tim Plough is doing? Boise over Utah State

    • Offensive coordinator Tim Plough came out of the press box, and coached on the sideline at the request of players. They wanted his energy and sense of urgency — and Plough responded by calling a masterful game.

His creativity created chaos. Five different players took snaps. Nine different players carried the ball behind a line that continues to play more soft than physical. There were 18 rushing attempts from non-running backs. Eleven players caught passes. There were wildcat formations. Jet sweeps. Misdirection all over the place.

“We have a bunch of guys on our team that need to touch the ball,’’ Plough said.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
Massey has us favored by 8. I don’t know how anyone can guess based on this seasons scores. I wonder how their morale is.

I think our strength of schedule hurts us. Even though we’ve played two teams that are objectively impressive wins in Tulsa and Weber on the road, they’re both just 1-3.
Not to mention Dixie whose played a crazy schedule and San Diego whose having a bad year. No way is our schedule the 199th in the country though, it was tougher than that.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
Miles was the first guy who committed that year, we made him an early offer. So he’s someone we liked a lot.

I think he’s a lot like Hunter, His highlights are mostly a pocket passer but he has mobility and can throw on the move.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
Defensive holding still would have been a first down at the six. We would have scored anyway
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
I think the ball might have been thrown differently if the target hadn’t been taken down. Defensive holding vs pass interference is the question not pass interference or no penalty
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
Even with Hastings our receivers had to catch contested balls, and made great catches. In contrast theirs were rarely contested. We can’t play against Eastern like that.
  • Week 5: Idaho @ UC Davis
Their version of Trent Tompkins, Zack Borisch a 3a Washington state Player of the year who is an international judoka and rushed for 205 yards against Eastern Washington this spring is now an essentially unused running back.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
How did Rodgers beat his guy so badly when the QB is standing at the back of the end zone? They say ill advised pass, but the QB didn’t have an option. Couldn’t get anything in the ball because he didn’t have room to complete the motion. Best rush of the year! I can only imagine their team watching that play on film!
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
    Buchanan played in second half
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
Hard to argue with wins but I think they need to take a little more risk to get some stops. Part of the reason the offense didn’t get untracked was Weber had the ball so long between our possessions
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
That has to be it.We’ve played two first game starters the last two weeks, don’t let a single play beat you make them do multiple plays without screwing up.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
For sure the running backs are making it through the second level. I don’t think I’ve seen many games with guys sliding and trying to grab someone’s ankles as this one. But also our DBs are not contesting or breaking up passes but just allowing the catch and making a tackle. Broadcasters commented on how far back our safeties were which leads to a lot of catches in front of them and tackles.
But let’s give the linebackers some credit, Scharetg made that great stop on Davis on 4th and 1.
  • Week 4: UC Davis @ Weber State
Odd game because Weber seemed ro push us around but in the end we seemed to wear them down. And that’s with the altitude factor.
