How did the Frosh team do in your era?

In the 70s we got a lot of guys from small rural high schools. Almost everyone was all league in high school. Huge roster to filter through. They had a freshman team that played a limited JC schedule.
Later I remember other coaches saying Davis being non scholarship was misleading. I think I recall the Santa Clara coach arguing that. Davis gave aid in other ways to make their offers competitive, and the cost of attendance was low. So there was still competitive recruiting.

After being #3 in this ranking in 2019, and not living up to it, this is the first year we make it back on their list.
We have talent, some questions on who will play key positions, and a very tough schedule.

. We have a lot of talent in those positions. He’s kind of duplicative of Larison, at RB behind Gilliam, and Babb and Hutton as wideouts who can turn a short pass into a big gain, and that may be true of Logan Kraut as well.. It would be nice if he could throw a pass on the move like Crawford, but if he could he might still be a QB.

That would be different. Babb wasn’t listed on the spring roster for some reason. Speaking of fairly large wide receivers, did they mention Logan Kraut, the transfer from Arizona?

Gale should be a redshirt freshman. 2020 was a free year and he only played four games in 2021.
Nice that Kraft played; he’s had some injury challenges.
Sounds like there were a lot of plays in Newman’s drive, considering it ended with a 75 yard strike. That guy has been playing college football for quite awhile. I guess Newman’s only a junior. Wasn't sure about that since he
Graduated high school in 2017.

I hear you. But even without technology there should be some PR, journalism, interview etc coming out of a month of camp. Big drop off from pre COVID years.
UC Davis is covered only by a low circulation local newspaper that serves an area about 8 miles in diameter. It’s web content is all behind a paywall. So the team needs to produce some web content for itself.

University of Florida is out of our league but maybe they could do as good a job as UNC or Idaho State. Maybe that’s too high a bar.

I would guess that Davis is the only Big Sky program that didn’t have a single story on their official website about spring practice.
There has been a distinct decrease in stories on the site. Tweets don’t make up for it.
They may think they don’t need to publicize because of all the great local media coverage.

I hope so. The fact that there is such a stigma to playing an FCS opponent is pretty weird. UCLA is certainly a storied program but they haven’t been USC equivalent.

The historically black colleges and the Ivy’s are a class of their own until they start playing in the playoffs.

I think defensive end is a position we really need someone to step up at. I notice that Luka Nixon isn’t on the roster; he looked like he was really coming on as a player but then was beset with injuries.

I’m hoping our defense can be better. it seems we have quite a few good players and good depth all around, but the results have been average at best. We’re over 100 yards a game worse than the top three defenses in our league and we were next to last in defensive yards per rush at 5 yards a carry.

I notice that Tattersall isn’t here for spring. I suppose he’s finishing the semester at Cal. I don’t recall that I’ve seen what his academic standing is, is he graduating from Cal, and coming here as a grad student?
