Darn, both the women and men have FTitis.

“ The first order of business will be assembling a staff that is adept at both player development and recruiting. Taylor could potentially bring some of his Sacramento State assistants with him, but a complete reset of the Cardinal’s coaching staff is necessary since things have gone past stale as of late. It will be interesting to see who he taps to come along to Palo Alto with him.

Of equal importance for Taylor is getting to the Early National Signing Day on Dec. 21 with the 2023 recruiting class intact, and perhaps a few additions. Since Shaw resigned, Stanford has lost its two highest rated commits in edge Hunter Clegg and tight end Walker Lyons. Both are LDS recruits who will be taking two-year missions and will not enroll at a college until 2025. Clegg has since committed to Utah, while Lyons remains uncommitted and has said he is still considering the Cardinal. Lyons attends Folsom High School in the Sacramento area, where Taylor was the co-head coach during two separate stints, from 2002-2004 and from 2012-2015. Hopefully Coach Taylor can use that connection to reel Lyons back into the fold.”

“ In general, it is tough for Stanford to bring transfers into the program due to the school’s admissions standards, however, Taylor should definitely make a serious attempt as there are now holes on the roster at quarterback, offensive line, linebacker and in the secondary. Junior quarterback Tanner McKee declared for the NFL Draft this past week, leaving the unproven trio of freshman Ashton Daniels, sophomore Ari Patu and incoming freshman Myles Jackson to compete for the starting job in his wake. There are a large number of quarterbacks currently in the portal, and the Cardinal would be well-served to bring one of them in.”

SDSU MSU should be a tremendous game. Maybe SDSU and NDSU in the finals?

Both teams have impressive mobile QBs. Looks like all the top teams have QBs that can throw and run.

Read through a bunch of posts on the card board. There’s a lot of skepticism on this hire. Many of the posters question whether TT can survive the “constraints” placed on him. They claim he didn’t adapt well to the Utah gig where he was apparently stymied. I’m not sure if these “constraints” are related to recruiting or administrative expectations. From my seat, i would look at his success when he was a HC, not an assistant. I’m anxious to see what he can do on the farm.

“ I wonder if he'll keep Coach Gould? I saw a picture of him with a cane, I hope he is doing well.”
Maybe Sac will pick him up, lol.
  • 2023 Week 1: UC Davis @ Texas A&M Commerce

And their boards are worried Taylor is going to take his QB recruit, who is apparently top notch, with him.

For those not in the Sac valley, we’re getting the storm of the decade right now. Both teams are lucky their not in the trenches today.

Select Stanford donors received an email later last night informing them a new head football has been found and inviting them to a press conference live stream early next week.

“ Stanford has high academic standards for their athletes. I would assume that some of the Sac athletes would not meet those standards and that may limit who he can take with him. Also, the pool of athletes he will be able to recruit from will be smaller due to the stricter academic standards that Stanford has compared to Sac.”

I’ve been singing that song all day long. I’m sure Taylor is going to do a tremendous job, but recruiting kids with athleticism and strong academics is going to be new territory for him. I’m looking forward to seeing Stanford’s progress. And their first game next fall, drum roll, Sacramento.

    Off the hornet boards:

“ An email went out to key boosters today, Taylor will be announced after our game this weekend, and introduced on the Farm next week.

No word on whether he will see the playoff run through or not if we win tonight.”
  • Cody Hawkins new Idaho St. Coach
That was a total surprise. I’m glad Idaho state grabbed him and not the hornets, lol.

“Multiple national reports have identified Sacramento State coach Troy Taylor and former Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett as finalists for the Stanford football post that was vacated when David Shaw resigned last month.

Taylor is a well-known name in Northern California. He earned his third Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year award this season in addition to being named AFCA Region 5 FCS Coach of the Year this week. Taylor has led the Hornets to a 12-0 record and the No. 2 national FCS ranking heading into Friday night’s quarterfinal playoff game against Incarnate Word of San Antonio.”

“The Stanford job would, of course, mean a significant boost in salary if Taylor is offered the job and he accepts. Taylor makes about $250,000 in base salary with Sacramento State, which can be surpassed with a number of bonuses, such as Coach of the Year honors. Stanford paid Shaw in excess of $6 million annually. Even half of that salary would be a towering figure over what Sacramento State could offer.

Sacramento State athletic director Mark Orr has told The Bee multiple times that his biggest concern is losing Taylor, and the one-time Cal cornerback added last week, “Every big college football job should have Troy Taylor on their list. He’s that good. Of course, we don’t want to lose him.”

I’m surprised this info was released while sac is still in the playoffs.

Well, if he wasn’t interested I doubt he would visit the campus.
Regarding taking players with him, they’ll have to be able to pass university level classes, lol.

KCRA reporting tonight that Taylor is in the final two for the Stanford HC position.

Sac Bee this morning said Sac pushed for the friday game to beat out the weather on saturday. Not sure how far in advance they would have had to do that if its true. Either way, a rain free game seems to play into Incarnate Word’s hand more so than Sac’s.
  • Hello!
Welcome Greg! You’ll get great (free) advice here, lol. Free giveaways are always popular, such as the student bike giveaways at football games this season, and free T shirts are always nice. But on a bigger scope, our student base these days has a large contingent of international students. Football and basketball may not have been part of their culture. Educating the students about these sports regarding how fun it is to attend and when do you cheer, when do you make noise, and when should you be quiet. How about recognizing a group of students who are attending their first football game? Give them a free shirt to wear and recognize them during the game.

Wow, big time program. I hope he gets plenty of playing time.
