  • MBB Games at UCSD and UCI Cancelled
Beyond the bummer from the fans perspective, the student athletes must be devastated. If games are cancelled, i would assume practice is as well?

“the Honolulu paper this morning: Hawaii effectively handed us the win by going through a turnover epidemic with about 8 minutes left in the game.”

I hope they mentioned that we were handing it back to them with our FT shooting, lol.

“ I was a bit surprised Bora didn’t get any court time.”
Same here. I think he is the tallest guy we have and seems to shine on defense and grabbing offensive rebounds.

Yeah, the elbows were flying. OK, homer here, but i thought Hawaii got away with several cheap shots, accidental maybe? Pepper took a big shot to the head in front of the aggie bench, and i think it was Manjon who took it to the eye on the other side.

Just home from the game. Hawaii came out shooting lights out in the opening half and second half, then cooled off. As mentioned, this game would have been put away earlier if we were hitting the FTs. But down 17 or so then Pepper had two huge steals and buckets and before you knew it, we were back in the game. Nail biter at the end, great win.

Talking defense, i really like the energy that Debruhl brings off the bench. I don’t think he has impressive FG numbers, but good defensive effort.

Yes i remember Hawkins talking about Pickett’s baseball skills. He sure stressed the fact that one of the receiver recruits ran track and had impressive speed. Maybe it was Gbatu but he’s 5’10”. Too bad they don’t record the evening highlights. On the other hand, we don’t want to make too much inside info public.

Sounded like it. And there was a freshman from Socal, tall kid, that has break away speed that also ran track. He commented about loosing Harrel. Sounded like replacing him was on the agenda.

I don’t remember Hawk specifically addressing the qb competition, but that was certainly heard in conversation around the room, which is speculation but everyone is anticipating a healthy competition for “the guy.”

Wife and i attended. Attendance was lower then previous years. Hawk was true to form. Always life messages in his speeches. He said this class was a small class, but talented. He played the recruit video and made comments along the way. He seemed pleased with the receivers they brought in as well as the entire group. He keeps his cards tight, but i got the impression he was especially pleased with Kraut, but was careful not to praise one kid over another. He did say the training facility has already made an impact on recruiting.

“ City College of San Francisco quarterback Jack Newman has been named California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) State Athlete of the Month for September. It is the third time since the inception of the award in 2005 that a CCSF student-athlete earned the honor.”

“ For the month, Newman completed 99 of 140 passes (70.7%) for 1,552 yards and 15 touchdowns with only two interceptions. He led all quarterbacks in the state in completions, touchdowns, passing yards, as well as passing yards per game with 388.

Newman closed out September with back-to-back games of 400+ yards passing and four touchdowns. On Sept. 18, he threw 27 for 40 with 419 yards passing at Modesto Junior College and wrapped up the month with a 27 for 37 performance with 417 yards against American River College.”

Newman interview at Cal. Seems like a very articulate young man.

So Newman went from HS to city college of SF , then to Cal, then back to SF? Cal shows him as a sophmore transfer from SF in 2019. 6’1” 200lbs.

Good win, but they were letting UCR back in towards the end. 65-60Ags

32-22 Ags at the half. UCR looked defeated at the end of the half. Lets see if we can maintain the momentum.

Crawford’s shoes are going to be hard to fill, but somehow we usually do.

Regarding grad school, as i digest it a bit, don’t flame me, but grad school should not be a mechanism to extend eligibility for athletes unless they are degree driven. We need to maintain some level of academic integrity. My nephew was a starter at PSU, left his senior year and went to the beavers where he was a starter. He is a super bright kid and is in a graduate program with plans to finish his degree. 6’5” 300 lbs. I worked him as hard as i could to get him here when he was in HS.

Maybe Borra will get some more minutes. The few times i have seen him he looks promising.

Yes, thanks to all of you especially CA. I’m essentially a non-contributor on this thread, but always enjoy the posts and the anticipation of how our new recruits will contribute. We have one of the most active FCS forums in the country.
