Just like Mary Matalin and James Carville. How they and Conways do it is incredible. I recall that Mary came to Davis years ago and spoke. Called Carville “my husband the axe-murderer’” because of his looks. Which is quite accurate. But Carville is a very smart political strategist who said yesterday that Trump is so far behind in the polls now that “he probably will pull out of the race’” and added “its all but over for Trump, that he cannot come back from this, and has no chance to win it.” (Or words to that effect) i cant say that I agree with all he said, but interesting that he did say it.

WNBA eliminated preseason camp and cut all squads to 11 or 12 players as of May 26. So Morgan had no opportunity to compete for a spot on the Wings roster. Ditto for many if not most drafted 2010 players. Very unfair to those players. They were not paid either. Gotta give Morgan a lot of credit. She has changed positions (5 to a 4 which are very different positions to play. Drafted by Wings, Gone to Russia. Now to Poland. She has grit that is for sure.

Big Sky conference dropped tennis as a required sport last month. Northern Col. And Southern Utah have now cut the sport. 62% of all US collegiate players are foreign so expect a lot more similar cuts.

Chancellor May announced today that UCD would have enough actual classes in place to accommodate our foreign students to allow them to get around Trumps ridiculous new visa rules. Not only is Trump incompetent, he is an extremely mean and cruel racist. By all accounts, he is the worst president this nation has ever elected.

Boise State just cut 3 sports: baseball, men’s and woman’s swimming and diving saving 2.3M in doing so. Boise AD says that if they cannot fill 36,000 capacity Albertsons Stadium for football This year its ICA program will have a deficit of 10M+.and will be unsustainable.

That is a big lake as I recall. Got very funky in the dead of summer. Is this job to try and fix that?

Stanfords cut of 11 sports is sure to prompt cuts by other big ICA programs. I would think that Berkeley's ICA may be next. In short, it is a mess both in terms of a huge deficit and title IX. Just look at two metrics: cal spends 35M on men’s sports with men’s coaches averaging a $533,000 salary versus 14M on woman’s sports with $150,000 average salary for the women’s coaches. I realize alumni support is fairly strong, but not enough to make this program sustainable in the long term.

72. I never figured out the metrics on dropping woman’s rowing other than it was a bit pricey. But now its one of the few very popular west coast woman’s sports that can be played without getting on an airplane. And I will add: WE WERE VERY GOOD AT IT! It would be now just getting on a bus to sac or to the bay. No brainer. Maybe Blue’s worst mistake coming on board?

Agreed. Sadly FH has to go. Quick fix- reinstate woman’s rowing. We were great at this sport. We have the boats (I think still) we definitely have the girls to do the rowing. And a place to row. It’s a bit pricey, but with Title IX there is no real alternative. Except if we cut a men’s program. Most likely: men’s water polo. Golf or tennis. Possibly, baseball, but I think its a required sport in the BW. All bad decisions for college sports in the future. AD Blue in a bad spot. And if he’s home in Canada now, he’ll probably be banned from coming back to Davis For next quarter.

So the Ivy League did vote to cancel all fall sports.What is a bit surprising is that it made no commitment to moving any sports to the spring as was anticipated. Also, how this plays out with basketball which is sort of an hybrid fall/winter sport is unclear. I’m not a betting man, but if I was I would bet that the Big Sky and the Big West to follow suit soon. FBS football- anyone’s guess, but I would think the PAC-12 would be the most likely to cancel fall sports out of all the major conferences. SEC probably no way. It would probably play with Covid sick players instead off canceling. I also would not be surprised if Trump threatened to pull federal funding from any FBS school that cancelled.

I totally forgot about tennis! But I would hate tho see this as the only effective way to clean it up.

ICE decision not allow foreign students to stay in the US is bad news for Aggie basketball. WBB has 5 foreign players on its 2020 roster, basically 1/3+ of the team. MBB has several as well, but not the WBB numbers. I do not know how WBB survives this with 8 players.

Ivy League to vote on Wednesday on postponing football season to next spring. Atlantic Magazine says 98% chance that will be the decision. Sadly, Many feel this will be the first of many leagues to do the same. With the recent surge of the virus it is probably the wisest decision.

UnderArmour wants out of record setting 2016 $280 deal with UCLA
Oh how fortunes can change.The reasons are somewhat Covid related due to the shortened seasons this year, but the main reason is that UCLA’s major sports teams just are not performing well enough for UA. UCLA already has an $18.9 million shortfall in its ICA program now covered by a loan from the university. We all know about Cal getting a one time $25 million from the last state budget to cover part of its deficit. How many times will the state have to cover these Favored but losing programs, since we all are paying into the state budget? Not really a fair deal for the other UCs.
