Can someone post the link to buy student tickets, if still needed? I can't find it
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
I didn't think the Cal Expo plan was ever actually proposed for 2026 but I see in Sac's release:

President Luke Wood set a goal of opening the new stadium, with up to 25,000 seats, in time for the Fall 2026 football season. He said the project would be financed largely through revenue bonds.

    https://www.csus.edu/news/newsroom/stories/2025/9/calexpo.html

That "goal" seemed like quite a jump from entering into a formal agreement to explore the possibility of a stadium at the site. Like everything Wood says, worth ~0.

Yeah somehow I doubt much research went into this line "Furthermore, there are few if any players he can bring from UC Davis that can make a Teddye Buchannan level impact on the program’s short term trajectory."

Plough listed as marginal candidate here https://writeforcalifornia.com/p/cal-head-coaching-big-board-10

Why he would be an exciting hire
He was closely involved in maybe the best Cal offense of the Wilcox era, and maybe it’s not a coincidence that the offense took a schematic step back after he left?

Why he could be a risky hire
He never had a chance to do much as an HC. Sure he has brought UC Davis to the FCS playoffs in 2024 and 2025, but Davis is a perennial FCS playoff participant, so Plough can’t exactly take credit for building the program up. Before that, he was relieved of his duties as OC at Boise State due to poor offensive performance of the team… who shortly thereafter made the CFP. Furthermore, there are few if any players he can bring from UC Davis that can make a Teddye Buchannan level impact on the program’s short term trajectory.

Would he take the job if offered?
Tim Plough is something of a replacement level candidate. Cal can increase his salary by an order of magnitude AND he’s not going to get serious looks from anywhere else on Cal’s level, meaning that he’ll be there as a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency option.

Some of you may prefer long commutes from exurban heat but most people don't, which is why it's a lot more expensive to live in close in, nice neighborhoods. I don't know where Wilcox's staff lives but Sonny Dykes lived in this house on the Oakland/Piedmont border. https://www.redfin.com/CA/Piedmont/271-Crocker-Ave-94610/home/526622
  • Coaching Carousel
I don't think he will be a top candidate anyways, so this discussion is moot
  • Coaching Carousel
    1. It is not obvious that Cal would fire Plough after 3 years. Wilcox just got 9 years, and made tens of millions of dollars, by going .500.
    2. Davis is a great town but Berkeley also has positive attributes. There are reasons it is ~twice as expensive a housing market as Davis.
    3. When you're signing a contract for $30 million or whatever, you're not going to be sweating the moving costs.
    4. This is all a crazy discussion - obviously if he can 10x his salary, he should and is going to take it.
  • Coaching Carousel
If he can 10x his salary, yes he should obviously go
  • Coaching Carousel
It's possible he'll get a look, but it's a thin resume for as big a job as Cal. Two years of relatively impressive success at FCS level, but no record of building a dominant, championship program. There are other candidates who have more experience at the higher, G5 level and other hotshot coordinators from the P5 level who will have a leg up.

I doubt Plough would be a serious candidate until he had a few more years of high level winning here, including a championship or two
  • 71st Causeway Classic: UC Davis vs. Sac State
I was thinking of the SFA game in 2005:

Despite losing their starting quarterback in the first quarter, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks rallied Saturday night to defeat No. 21 UC Davis, 27-17, at Homer Bryce Stadium. The `Jacks scored 20 unanswered points in the second half to improve to 5-4 on the season.

Well, also don't take day games in the South in August. It is hot in Davis but I don't think we have a great track record dealing with southern heat and humidity.
  • Facilities Master Plan Release
How much of that $265 mil is in hand? Or is this release the start of fundraising?
  • Facilities Master Plan Release
Renderings are a little rudimentary but it's nice to see that football is a phase 1 priority. I trust they've done the due diligence to figure out six suites plus that club seating is something that is realistic to fill in a profitable manner. Hopefully there are next phase general seating expansions planned as well.
  • Big Sky Football Games Week 12
Yeah I didn't understand why the clock stopped at the time ... he landed in bounds but rolled/slid on his back out of bounds? How is that possible?
  • Sac State's bid for the Pac 12 Thread
It's pretty insane to voluntarily trade Saturday games vs Davis, CP, Montana, etc for Tuesday/Wednesday vs Akron and Ball State
  • Big Sky Football Games Week 12
I guess they must be saying it was just a bad enough call on first impression that it was misconduct worthy of suspension
  • Big Sky Football Games Week 12
I reluctantly find myself in agreement with Kadeezy. Once the incorrect call was made on the field, what were the refs supposed to do with the replay review? There was no angle that supported reversing the initial call. Maybe that's a conference problem that they didn't have a camera with an appropriate view. The refs were in an impossible situation after the initial bad call was made - I'd be pissed if I were them
